In Yanbei, Cheng Yuan discovers that a rare material known as Black Gold Mine has begun circulating heavily in local markets. This rare resource is being used as a medium of trade among the common people, signaling that Ximeng's mineral output has reached staggering levels. This discovery comes at a difficult time for Yanbei; due to recent tax cuts, the military is facing a severe shortage of supplies and pay.
As winter approaches, Yan Xun orders heating expenses to be halved and plans for the soldiers to begin farming and herding in the spring to bolster their income. Meanwhile, Zhuge Muqing arrives in Ximeng City to see his grandson. Zhuge Yue is shocked to find that his grandfather’s martial arts have been completely destroyed.
Muqing explains that the Emperor, suspicious of the Zhuge family after the defeat at Meilin Pass, forced him to take a crippling poison to prove his loyalty. The family has been under immense pressure from the rival Muhe family, who are eager to replace Qingshan Court. To protect the clan and quell the Emperor's suspicion, Muqing had even desecrated a body to fake Zhuge Yue’s death.
He now urges Zhuge Yue to return to Great Yong, believing his status as the King of Ximeng could restore the family's power. Zhuge Yue, however, refuses to serve Great Yong any longer and asks his grandfather to forget him. He insists that his life as a member of Qingshan Court ended at the frozen lake and that he only wishes to live in peace with Chu Qiao.
Muqing grows angry, accusing his grandson of abandoning his duty for a slave. He reminds Zhuge Yue that as the former head of Qingshan Court, he is responsible for the blood of countless innocents and can never truly wash the stain from his hands. During the celebrations in Ximeng City, a woman named Jing Ba arrives at the palace claiming to be Chu Qiao’s sister.
Chu Qiao is overjoyed, having searched for her since they were separated during their escape from the Zhuge family years ago. However, Jing Ba is no longer the girl she once was. As she looks at the luxurious palace, her eyes are filled with envy and resentment. While Chu Qiao reflects on their past struggles, Jing Ba remains cold, feeling that her sister is living in luxury while she suffered as a beggar.
Jing Ba soon orchestrates a plan for revenge. She sneaks into Zhuge Yue’s bedchamber and attempts to frame him for a violation to turn Chu Qiao against him. When Chu Qiao rushes in, she immediately sees through the lie, knowing Zhuge Yue would never commit such an act. Jing Ba then drops the facade, declaring her hatred for Zhuge Yue and Qingshan Court, which she blames for the deaths of their siblings.
Despite the betrayal, Chu Qiao cannot bring herself to harm her sister and instead provides her with a horse, silver, and rations to start a new life. Suspicious of the situation, Zhuge Yue follows Jing Ba as she leaves. He notices that the dagger she carries is made of glazed iron, a weapon specific to Qingshan Court. He soon discovers that his grandfather was the one who saved Jing Ba and sent her to assassinate him as a warning.
Muqing uses Jing Ba’s life as leverage, demanding that Zhuge Yue return to Qingshan Court within five days. He further threatens that if Zhuge Yue does not reclaim his position, a new head will be appointed who will execute all of Zhuge Yue’s former subordinates and their families. Zhuge Yue remains undeterred and reveals that he has already captured the heads of four Qingshan Court outposts within Ximeng.
He warns his grandfather that with his knowledge of the organization, he can dismantle every hidden agent in Yanbei and Biantang within ten days, rendering years of Muqing’s work useless. Realizing that his grandson’s resolve is unshakeable, Zhuge Muqing finally admits defeat. He acknowledges that he cannot force Zhuge Yue’s hand and warns him that he must rely only on himself to survive the political storms ahead. As Muqing departs, a bitter Jing Ba also leaves, still swearing she will one day have her revenge.
