> Resúmenes de A Splendid Match
Inside the prison, the Marquis of Changxing confronts Chen Yanyun with a blade, branding him a traitor. Unmoved, Yanyun remains composed, reminding the Marquis that his son, Ye Xian, is still held captive and that harming a court official would leave the Marquis’s household without an heir. The tense standoff is interrupted by news that Ye Xian has suddenly collapsed. While the Marquis is overcome with grief, the collapse is actually a calculated ruse.
During their earlier confrontation, Yanyun had managed to have Ye Xian ingest a pill that causes his blood and qi to surge, mimicking the symptoms of a severe heart attack to force a change in the political situation. Gu Jinzhao receives word that both the Marquis and Ye Xian have been released and sent back to their residence for treatment.
Realizing she no longer needs to visit the prison personally, she decides to send the necessary antidote through Fifth Aunt (Ye Xian’s sister, who is married into the Gu family). At the Gu residence, she finds Fifth Aunt embroiled in a heated dispute with the Gu Old Madam. Fearing the family will be dragged down by the Marquis’s downfall, the Old Madam forbids anyone from leaving the house.
Gu Jinzhao intervenes, pointing out that the Marquis still commands immense loyalty among the military and that war with the Northern barbarians is imminent. She argues that abandoning their kin now would only invite future retribution, eventually convincing the Old Madam to allow Fifth Aunt to return home. During the journey to the Marquis’s residence, Gu Jinzhao confides in Fifth Aunt, revealing that Ye Xian’s condition was intentionally induced to save the Marquis.
She explains that the Emperor wished to show mercy but needed a pretext that wouldn't openly defy his teacher, Lord Fu. By having the Marquis witness his son’s near-death experience, Yanyun hoped the stubborn general would finally yield and the Emperor would have a reason to intervene. Gu Jinzhao sternly warns Fifth Aunt to keep this secret from everyone, including her own parents, as any leak could endanger the entire household.
At the residence, the imperial physician confirms that Ye Xian is stable, though his health has been compromised by the ordeal. When Ye Xian wakes and desperately calls for Gu Jinzhao, his sister stops him with a slap, urging him to stop pestering her and to consider the survival of their ailing parents and the Marquis's house. In the imperial court, Chen Yanyun navigates the aftermath of the Marquis’s arrest.
The Marquis, broken by his son's illness, submits a memorial seeking retirement. While Lord Fu initially pushes for a strict application of the law, Yanyun presents a way to preserve the Marquis’s reputation while allowing him to step down. Reflecting on his early days under Lord Fu’s mentorship, Yanyun laments to Gu Jinzhao that his teacher seems to have lost the original noble heart he once possessed for the people.
Though the Marquis’s life and name are saved, Yanyun observes that the legendary general is physically failing and has little time left, signifying the end of an era for his prestigious household. As the wedding date approaches, Chen Yanyun meticulously prepares the betrothal gifts, using his personal fortune to supplement the list. His generosity surprises the Second Lady, who prepares her own contributions for the upcoming dowry ceremony.
During the celebration at the Gu residence, friends and family gather to offer their blessings. Gu Lan presents a handmade wedding quilt, earning praise for her exquisite craftsmanship. Sixth Lady Chen Yanying also arrives to deliver a jade ruyi from the Chen Old Madam, joined by Yu Wanxue, who brings fine fragrant powder and cosmetics. The atmosphere becomes playful as Chen Yanying teases Yu Wanxue about her future status.
Since Wanxue is engaged to Chen Xuanqing, she will soon have to address Gu Jinzhao as an "Aunt" rather than a sister. Though Wanxue is initially too shy to use the formal title, Gu Jinzhao suggests they simply maintain their current friendly terms. Despite the festivities, Wanxue feels a sense of uncertainty regarding her own upcoming marriage, especially given Xuanqing’s sudden departure for peace talks in the past and his apparent lack of enthusiasm.
Chen Xuanqing eventually returns from his mission in Shanxi, only to be devastated by the news of the impending wedding. Unable to accept that Gu Jinzhao is marrying his uncle, he falls into a state of melancholy. He eventually sends his attendant, Yunting, to deliver a private letter to Gu Jinzhao, seeking to know if she has any hidden grievances or regrets about the match. Gu Jinzhao, however, refuses to even open the letter.
To signal her resolve, she burns the message and asks the servant to tell Xuanqing that she has long since found peace with her choice, and he should do the same.
