> Resúmenes de A Splendid Match
Chen Yanyun offers comfort to Gu Jinzhao, informing her that he has dispatched men to locate Yuping and expects news shortly. He urges her to take care of herself, as staying healthy is the ultimate form of filial piety. Meanwhile, Gu Jinzhao overhears a confrontation between Gu Jinrong and Gu Lan. It is revealed that Gu Lan manipulated Jinrong by feigning a craving for sugar-roasted chestnuts from Li’s, a shop she knew was run by Yuping’s family.
By tricking him into revealing the location, Gu Lan successfully tracked down the missing maid. Gu Jinrong is devastated, realizing his sister used him to drive their mother to her death. Gu Lan attempts to deflect blame, claiming she never intended for their mother to commit suicide, but Jinrong refuses to accept her excuses. Gu Jinzhao intervenes, announcing her intention to sue Gu Dezhao at the Shuntian Prefecture for driving his wife to her death.
Gu Lan is horrified, reminding her that a child suing a father is a grave crime punishable by forty strokes of the cane. Undeterred, Gu Jinzhao seeks only justice. Overwhelmed by guilt for his role in the tragedy, Gu Jinrong offers to take the punishment himself, though Gu Jinzhao insists they both sign the petition. Gu Dezhao, listening from the shadows, is left in despair as he realizes his children are turning against him.
Soon after, Chen Yanyun’s guards successfully capture Yuping. Under questioning, Yuping confesses that as a former dowry maid, she had hoped to become Gu Dezhao’s concubine. When Lady Han chose Yunxiang instead and ordered Yuping to serve her, Yuping acted out of spite. She swapped Yunxiang’s pregnancy-preserving remedy for a labor-inducing tonic, which eventually led to Yunxiang's death.
Years later, Song Yiniang and Gu Lan found her and offered her two hundred taels of silver to return and falsely accuse Lady Han of the crime. Blinded by greed, she agreed to the scheme. When Chen Yanyun asks Gu Jinzhao how she wishes to proceed, she reaffirms her plan to expose the truth in court to ruin Gu Dezhao’s reputation. Chen Yanyun decides to support her.
He instructs Mr. Jiang to find legal precedents where children were spared the cane when suing an irredeemably evil father. He also arranges for censors to impeach Gu Dezhao for favoring a concubine over his wife, effectively paving the way for Jinzhao's lawsuit. In the political arena, Chen Yanyun meets with the Grand Secretary. While Lord Fan Chuan insists on river transport, Chen Yanyun and the Grand Secretary advocate for sea transport.
News arrives that the summer floods will likely occur early, which would choke the river canals with mud and render them unusable for years. This development removes the primary opposition to sea transport. Additionally, Chen Yanyun reports on weapon smuggling involving Prince Ruichang’s son. Suspecting the weapons are being moved toward the capital via water routes, Chen Yanyun suggests intercepting them at Tongzhou.
He uses the excuse of returning to his ancestral home to perform ancestor worship to travel there personally. Before the family departs for Tongzhou, Ji Yao stays by Gu Jinzhao’s side to ensure she eats. He consoles her regarding her mother's final wish to be called "mother," reminding her that she had affectionately called her "mummy" many times as a child. He encourages her not to punish herself with grief or hurt her own health while trying to penalize others.
Meanwhile, Gu Dezhao faces the fallout of his actions as rumors of his cruelty spread. Gu Dezhao’s elder brother informs him that numerous memorials have been filed against him, threatening his official rank and reputation. Consumed by guilt and fear, Gu Dezhao attempts to hang himself, but Gu Jinzhao saves him. She reveals that she has changed her mind about the lawsuit, believing that losing his job is too light a punishment.
Instead, she demands he agree to three conditions: he must obtain her approval for any future remarriage or concubines, he shall have no say in her or Jinrong’s marriages, and he must sign a divorce agreement. By divorcing him posthumously, her mother can be buried in the Ji family ancestral land in Tongzhou, freed from the Gu family forever. Trapped, Gu Dezhao signs the papers.
As Gu Jinzhao prepares to escort the coffin back to Tongzhou, Ye Xian arrives to see her off. Concerned about the increasing number of refugees and the potential for unrest, he insists that ten of his elite guards accompany her. He also entrusts her with the care of his cat, Baopu, asking her to look after it until she returns. During the journey, the group stops at a post house during a heavy storm.
Chen Yanyun and his mother are also staying there. Chen Yanyun’s mother admits it is better they didn't know they were traveling with a funeral procession beforehand, as the elderly are sensitive to such things. Chen Yanyun meets with Gu Jinzhao and arranges for his men to share rooms so that Ye Xian’s guards and the funeral staff are well-accommodated. Late that night, Gu Jinzhao talks with Chen Yanyun. She admits she has abandoned the idea of a lawsuit.
Reflecting on her return to the capital, she confesses that she was initially consumed by a desire for revenge, from punishing Nanny Zhou to publicly humiliating her father at Lord Lin's birthday and rejecting the Liu family’s proposal. She realizes now that her aggressive pursuit of the truth regarding the medicine may have backed her opponents into a corner, inadvertently leading to her mother’s death. Weighted with the thought that a quieter approach might have saved her mother’s life, she breaks down, blaming herself for the tragedy.
