Following their previous confrontation, Zhao Zhenghao corners Tong Xiaole near the restroom to settle their grievances. Refusing to back down, Xiaole proposes a two-on-two basketball challenge during P. E. class. The stakes are set: if Zhao Zhenghao loses, he must stop targeting Yi Lan and Luo Ningzi; if Xiaole's side loses, they must publicly apologize at the school gate. During the game, Yi Lan and Qiao Mengmeng watch from the sidelines.

While they are there to support Xiaole, Qiao Mengmeng cannot help but admire Zhao Zhenghao’s skills, prompting constant reminders from Yi Lan about where her loyalties should lie. The match is interrupted by Mr. Bu, who is determined to stop the bickering. He demands that the two boys make peace immediately by shaking hands and naming five of each other’s strengths. Zhao Zhenghao begrudgingly admits that Xiaole has good grades, is handsome, and is a favorite among the teachers.

Xiaole counters by praising Zhao’s responsibility as the orchestra captain and his restraint in not bullying the weak. However, the moment the teacher leaves, the tension resurfaces. When Zhao Zhenghao mockingly swings a fist to intimidate him, Xiaole seizes the opportunity to fake a head injury. He groans in pain and insists on going to the infirmary, leaving Zhao Zhenghao baffled by the act. Back in Class 9, Grade 11, Mr. Bu returns the papers for the latest monthly exam.

Tong Xiaole remains the top student, while Yi Lan finds herself at the bottom of the class with only 48 points. Despite her academic disappointment, Yi Lan is more concerned about Xiaole and rushes to the infirmary. She finds him still pretending to be in agony, and since the school nurse is away, she takes it upon herself to disinfect his "wound."

She even tenderly blows on the injury to ease his pain, unaware that Chen Fan is hiding nearby, eavesdropping on their intimate conversation. When Luo Ningzi arrives to check on them, Chen Fan finally reveals himself. Meanwhile, in a separate room, Zhao Zhenghao lies injured for real, nursing a leg injury and complaining about the unfairness of the situation.

Determined to show her gratitude for Xiaole's help, Yi Lan insists on riding him home on her bicycle, claiming his precious brain is meant for studying rather than manual labor. At home, she prepares a meal of stir-fried tomatoes with eggs and shrimp. Though the presentation is disastrous, Xiaole finds the taste surprisingly good. He teases her, noting that her sudden kindness must have an ulterior motive.

Yi Lan finally admits her concern: she is embarrassed by her low math score and fears that Luo Ningzi—who has high standards—will no longer want to practice the cello with her. She begs Xiaole, the "exam genius," to tutor her so she can pass the finals. Xiaole agrees to help, and under his guidance, Yi Lan shows remarkable progress, scoring 91 points on a subsequent mock exam.

Her public thanks in the classroom inspire Qiao Mengmeng and Chen Fan to join the tutoring sessions. Even Zhao Zhenghao, desperate after receiving a dismal 13 points on his exam, swallows his pride and begs to join. He explains that as an art student, his dignity and his allowance are at stake. The group spends the weekend studying at Xiaole’s house. Amidst the hard work, Xiaole and Yi Lan share lighthearted moments of bickering and playfulness.

When the next set of results is posted, the improvements are undeniable. Yi Lan breaks the 100-point mark with a 105, and Zhao Zhenghao is ecstatic to have reached 91. To celebrate, Chen Fan invites everyone to his family's mountain villa for a two-day trip. Luo Ningzi declines, citing her heavy schedule of IELTS and specialized music classes, and suggests that Yi Lan find a private tutor to sharpen her skills before they collaborate again.

At home, Yi Lan’s father is pleased with her grades but remains strictly opposed to her taking professional cello lessons, insisting she focus on an ordinary university path. This sparks a somber moment for Yi Lan, who misses her mother, a former principal player of a major cello orchestra, who would have supported her dreams. Seeking comfort, Yi Lan takes Xiaole to a "wish wall" to pray for her future as a cellist.

Later, the group heads to the villa for their vacation. While exploring the scenic area, they slide down a long chute, playfully shouting "Purple-spotted tonguefish" as they launch themselves. Xiaole spends much of the time taking photos, focusing primarily on Yi Lan. As they stand by the water, Yi Lan reminisces about her mother's teachings on reaching a state of "flow" while playing music.

Xiaole breaks her melancholy with his characteristic teasing, reminding her that her early cello playing sounded more like someone sawing wood, which earns him a playful threat of a beating. Despite the bickering, the friends enjoy the beautiful scenery and take group photos to commemorate their time together.
