Xiao Chengrui became enraged upon seeing a sachet embroidered by Helan Mingyu. Helan Yunqi picked it up from the ground, and Xiao Chengrui remarked that he now understood the true object of Helan Mingyu's occasional absentmindedness and sadness. Helan Yunqi reminded him that he was the one who was determined to have Helan Mingyu in the first place, despite her and Xiao Chengxu having fallen in love earlier.

She asserted that it was Xiao Chengrui who separated them, and Helan Mingyu had never betrayed him. However, Xiao Chengrui expressed his dissatisfaction, stating that while he could obtain anything he desired within the four oceans now that he was emperor, the heart of his most beloved woman remained beyond his reach, and he found this unacceptable. Helan Yunqi gently suggested that even an emperor could not conquer every place, including the human heart.

Unheeding, Xiao Chengrui declared that since Helan Mingyu was the woman he chose to cherish and had married him, her entire being and heart must belong solely to him. In Everlasting Palace, Ling Zhen'er worried that Xiao Chengrui's prolonged absence would make Helan Mingyu's position in the harem difficult. Helan Mingyu, however, was more concerned that Xiao Chengrui might have discovered the truth about her past with Xiao Chengxu.

Soon after, Helan Wanyin arrived, bringing great joy to Helan Mingyu, who had prepared many of her favorite snacks and osmanthus tea. Helan Wanyin noticed many items from Yonglin in Helan Mingyu's chambers, including a bow, arrow, horse whip, and a wood carving from their royal older brother. She was envious, recalling how she also wanted the carving but never received one, feeling that their older brother pampered Helan Mingyu more.

Hui'er, a servant, explained that these items were specially shipped from Yonglin on Xiao Chengrui's orders to alleviate Consort Xian's homesickness, a unique favor. Helan Wanyin expressed her deep envy, lamenting her own difficult fate and the five years in Xi Qi, which felt like hell under Situ Kun's torment. She reflected on how fate had toyed with them, as she was the first to meet Xiao Chengrui, yet Helan Mingyu was the one who married him.

Helan Mingyu tried to console her, saying that whether one was lucky was something only that person truly knew, and that what she currently possessed was not what she truly desired. Helan Wanyin also mentioned her long-held desire to thank Xiao Chengrui for saving her years ago, and Helan Mingyu promised to take her to see him once she recovered, assigning Hui'er to attend to her sister.

Later, Helan Wanyin asked Hui'er if Helan Mingyu was deeply favored by Xiao Chengrui and what qualities attracted him most. Hui'er responded that liking a person meant liking every part of them, and only dislike made people picky. When Xiao Chengrui visited, Helan Mingyu suggested inviting Helan Wanyin to meet him, but he declined, explaining that Helan Wanyin's poor health meant she shouldn't exert herself, adding that she should be well taken care of.

He then observed that Helan Mingyu still refused to admit defeat or soften her stance. He rose to leave, implying he would stay if she asked, but Helan Mingyu dismissed him by citing his important state affairs. She affirmed to Ling Zhen'er that she was a person with self-dignity, not a plaything to be forced into submission. As Xiao Chengrui departed, he encountered Helan Wanyin in a pavilion, reciting poetry and drinking.

He was captivated by her gentle and delicate demeanor, noting her stark difference from Helan Mingyu. He gifted her a fan with a "Butterfly Chasing Flowers" drawing, assuring her that if she stayed long, there would be flowers for her to enjoy in all four seasons, a veiled promise she did not fully comprehend. Later, Xiao Chengrui discussed Helan Wanyin with Helan Yunqi, who reminded him of the sisters' close bond and Helan Mingyu's deep care for her older sister.

Meanwhile, while treasuring the cloak Xiao Chengrui had given her years ago, Helan Wanyin received a letter from Helan Keyong, her brother, stating his intention to marry her off as a side consort to the King of Huaixin Zhou. Helan Mingyu considered it a good match, but Helan Wanyin was distraught, refusing the marriage. She resented being repeatedly married off for political reasons, unlike Helan Mingyu, who always received the best.

She bitterly remarked that only she would truly look out for her own interests. Seeing her distress, Consort Hui informed Helan Wanyin that Xiao Chengrui had once been deeply impressed by a Great Liang woman playing the "Song of Longing" and that Helan Mingyu had shown no interest when asked to play it. Inspired, Helan Wanyin played the piece for Xiao Chengrui. He was pleased, especially upon learning she played it specifically to win his smile.

He mused that it would be good if Helan Mingyu possessed half of Helan Wanyin's understanding. Xiao Chengrui and Helan Wanyin grew closer. Helan Yunqi, noticing this, questioned Xiao Chengrui. She expressed that if his affection for Helan Wanyin was genuine, it would be a blessing, but if his intentions were not sincere, it would only lead to heartbreak.

Helan Yunqi also urged Helan Mingyu to reconcile with Xiao Chengrui and show some deference, but Helan Mingyu refused, comparing their relationship to a chess game at a stalemate, unwilling to lose completely. Xiao Chengrui soon arrived at Everlasting Palace, explicitly stating he was there to visit Helan Wanyin, who was suffering from a cold. He showed immense concern, personally tasting and feeding her medicine in front of Helan Mingyu.

When Helan Mingyu attempted to withdraw, Xiao Chengrui rebuked her for disturbing Helan Wanyin, then declared that he would punish Helan Mingyu by making Helan Wanyin stay in the palace forever to accompany him. Overwhelmed, Helan Wanyin feigned despair, claiming she could not live in Helan Mingyu's home, benefiting from her, and yet steal her husband, theatrically attempting to take her own life. Helan Mingyu quickly intervened.

Xiao Chengrui then openly declared his feelings for Helan Wanyin, stating it was his fault for falling for her and asking Helan Mingyu not to blame her sister. Helan Mingyu calmly offered her congratulations to the couple. Later, Helan Mingyu visited Helan Wanyin, dismissing their attendants to offer her sincere congratulations.

She expressed her hope for Helan Wanyin's happiness but warned her about the complexities of harem life, where finding a truly devoted partner was an arduous path amidst three thousand beauties. Helan Wanyin assured her she would not compete for favor, only seeking a measure of Xiao Chengrui's sincerity, and promised not to infringe on the love he gave Helan Mingyu.

The tension escalated when Hui'er, now more arrogant due to Helan Wanyin's favor, deliberately bumped into Ling Zhen'er, leading to a heated argument. Ling Zhen'er accused Hui'er of "a dog showing attitude because of its owner." Xiao Chengrui and Helan Wanyin witnessed the commotion. Helan Mingyu quickly apologized for Ling Zhen'er's behavior. Xiao Chengrui then stated that it was indeed inconvenient for Helan Wanyin to share a hall.

Helan Mingyu, with magnanimity, offered to move out, claiming an interest in gardening, to give Helan Wanyin more space and make it easier for Xiao Chengrui to visit. She then gracefully took her leave.
