In the early morning, Shui Wuxia's luggage was packed, ready for her departure from Jiang Mansion. Jiang Baiyu was confined and unable to see her off, while Jiang Tianling was still recovering from a night of heavy drinking. Only Qi Delong and Fang Yuncheng were there to bid Shui Wuxia farewell.
Fang Yuncheng had prepared sober-up tea for Qi Delong, who, after receiving a letter stating her father would arrive in Chong'an in a few days, crumpled it in a state of panic. Meanwhile, Jiang Tianling awoke to find Zhe Zhi beside him, both equally shocked. Jiang Tianling, disheveled, frantically apologized, while Zhe Zhi calmly dressed and left. Later, Ba Xi angrily confronted Shui Wuxia, frustrated that she was seemingly forced to return to Lang Ya Pavilion.
Ba Xi wanted to "settle the score" with the Jiang Family, feeling they had unfairly blamed Shui Wuxia for Jiang Baiyu's self-inflicted health issues. She emphasized that Shui Wuxia could not leave, especially with Ma Ru Long's case approaching trial and the truth about Shui Wuxia's brother's murder soon to be revealed.
Shui Wuxia calmly revealed her plan: she had sent a letter to Lang Ya Pavilion's branch in Chong'an, hoping to find a local employer from the upcoming register list, which would allow her to stay. Back at the Jiang Mansion, Jiang Baiyu was deeply distraught by Shui Wuxia's departure. Fang Yuncheng attempted to comfort him, but Jiang Baiyu angrily pushed him away, demanding to be left alone.
Zhe Zhi later brought a bracelet to Jiang Baiyu, but he dismissed it as meaningless without Shui Wuxia. The new maid from Lang Ya Pavilion, Shu Jing, arrived to mentor Jiang Baiyu. He immediately rejected her, despite Old Madam Jiang's presence, offering various excuses: Shu Jing wasn't as talented as Shui Wuxia, wasn't pretty, was sharp-tongued, and her name ("Shu Jing," meaning to lose everything in his interpretation) had an inauspicious connotation.
Shu Jing, however, logically refuted each of his points, asserting her competence. Despite Old Madam Jiang's persistence, Jiang Baiyu remained defiant, eventually telling Shu Jing, and then Fang Yuncheng, to leave his room. Jiang Baiyu's continued despair deeply concerned Old Madam Jiang. Shu Jing later attempted to organize Jiang Baiyu's study, inadvertently removing the bookmarks Shui Wuxia had made.
This act enraged Jiang Baiyu, who yelled at Shu Jing for touching his belongings and angrily recalled his past interactions with Shui Wuxia. Old Madam Jiang observed Jiang Baiyu talking to himself for two hours, seemingly in a state of hysteria, prompting her to seek solace from Buddha. Jiang Baiyu stared at a flower wall, momentarily mistaking Shu Jing for Shui Wuxia, and lashed out, reflecting his deep emotional turmoil.
Shu Jing expressed her understanding of Jiang Baiyu's deep attachment to Shui Wuxia, acknowledging her inability to compare to her predecessor's creative approach, but affirmed her commitment to her duties as a Lang Ya maid. Shu Jing informed Jiang Baiyu that Shui Wuxia had failed to find an employer in Chong'an and was about to return to Lang Ya Pavilion that very moment. She discreetly allowed Jiang Baiyu to rush out.
Shui Wuxia, already at the carriage, was reminded by Ba Xi and a senior sister from Lang Ya Pavilion about the strict rules: failure to find an employer meant immediate return, or expulsion from the pavilion. As Shui Wuxia contemplated her predicament, Jiang Baiyu arrived in the pouring rain. He grabbed her hand and declared, "Come home with me." Jiang Baiyu pulled Shui Wuxia with him and made her kneel before Old Madam Jiang's room.
He passionately pleaded with his grandmother to grant their wish. He confessed that their separation had felt like a dagger to his heart, revealing how deeply they had become "each other's shadows." He argued that he would rather not live a "safe" life like a walking corpse than be without her, declaring Shui Wuxia as the "love of his life."
He explained that he had never truly been happy until he met Shui Wuxia, who gave him confidence and illuminated his life like a ray of light. He threatened that if Shui Wuxia left, he would revert to his old, "bad Jiang Baiyu" self. Old Madam Jiang questioned their commitment, given the many bad omens and the short duration of their acquaintance, asking if they could truly endure if things worsened. Jiang Baiyu immediately affirmed his commitment.
Shui Wuxia, though privately wondering if his declaration was a genuine expression of love or merely a dramatic act to help her stay, also affirmed her commitment to remain with him. Seeing their resolute determination, Old Madam Jiang finally relented, and as they stood up, the rain stopped, which she took as a sign of divine will.
Back in Jiang Baiyu's room, Shui Wuxia, to thank Jiang Baiyu for allowing her to return to the Jiang Mansion, decided to redesign his study schedule and implement updated punishment methods to ensure he became well-behaved. They exchanged smiles.
