Government forces tightened their grip around Lavish Lane, forcing Master Ma's subordinates to send refugees to work at a dung yard. Master Ma, seemingly unfazed, suspected an internal informant due to the intensified pressure from the authorities and instructed his subordinate to investigate thoroughly. Master Ma then visited a captured man, who agreed to his demands. Master Ma was eager to examine the man's seven years of research, only to find that it had made no significant progress.
Despite this disappointment, Master Ma still needed the man's help, acknowledging his unparalleled Golden Phoenix Pin and exceptional medical skills. The captive agreed to test medicines but stipulated he required patients, to which Master Ma chillingly responded that he could "create" patients if none were readily available. Shui Wuxia and Jiang Baiyu returned to the Jiang Mansion, still carrying the foul stench from their recent investigation in Lavish Lane.
They were frustrated, realizing their mission had gone awry because Third Brother had genuinely considered them friends. Meanwhile, while Jiang Baiyu and Shui Wuxia were investigating Third Brother, Jiang Tianling and Qi Delong had uncovered new leads. Together, Jiang Tianling, Qi Delong, Jiang Baiyu, and Shui Wuxia went to the Lantern Boudoir. Soon after they were seated, Third Brother's henchman entered.
Jiang Tianling, having encountered the man previously in Lavish Lane, recognized the same distinctive scent on him as his brother Jiang Baiyu, deducing that the henchman was a regular at the Lantern Boudoir. They decided to get him drunk to extract information. Zhe Zhi instructed her girls, Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter, to handle the henchman, confident that no one could resist their charms.
Surprisingly, Jiang Baiyu kept urging Jiang Tianling to drink, and after a few cups, Jiang Tianling became completely intoxicated and passed out. Meanwhile, Fang Yuncheng waited by a bridge, offering a variety of fruits to Qi Delong. He hoped to make her taste them and then gently inquire about the identity of her beloved. Qi Delong, however, offered no answers and quickly departed without indulging him. Back at the Lantern Boudoir, the girls successfully intoxicated Third Brother's henchman.
He turned out to be merely a head coachman and had little useful information, but they did acquire a waist token for an upcoming auction, which was to be held at the Jiang Mansion. Zhe Zhi also reported an unusual finding: on the night of the Double Seventh Festival in Jiangzhou, a group of men resembling assassins had purchased a large quantity of romance novels.
Jiang Tianling speculated that the upcoming charity banquet at the Jiang Mansion, aimed at accommodating refugees from North Bay Village, might be Third Brother's opportunity for human trafficking under the guise of shelter, with a mastermind pulling the strings. He believed that whoever was most eager to shelter the refugees at the banquet might be the mastermind.
At the Jiang Mansion, Shui Wuxia prepared medicine for Shen Qingli, still troubled by the bracelet she had seen on his wrist during their last encounter. She subtly questioned him about giving or receiving gifts, particularly accessories. Shen Qingli denied ever receiving such gifts, explaining that his fans usually gave him weapons.
He then gave Shui Wuxia a durian candy and mentioned the rare and delicious cherry blossom-flavored cotton candy from the Double Seventh Festival in Jiangzhou, offering to take her to try it if given the chance. After Shui Wuxia left, she vented her frustration by playing darts, convinced that Shen Qingli was a "womanizer"—a "King of the Ocean"—who hinted at her being special while still wearing a bracelet and denying gifts.
Her suspicions solidified because he claimed he had never been to Jiangzhou, yet knew about the limited-edition cotton candy from a festival there. Ba Xi, Shui Wuxia's sister, concurred with the "womanizer" assessment, warning her that such men had "special persons" in every corner of their "oceanic" hearts. Later, Qi Delong discovered that Fang Yuncheng had secretly placed a pill in her soup, which he claimed was a beauty tonic. Enraged, she confronted him, pointing a sword at him.
The commotion drew Jiang Baiyu and Jiang Tianling to the scene. Fang Yuncheng admitted it was a "Truth Pill" and that he merely wanted to know Qi Delong's true feelings. He then provocatively asked Jiang Baiyu and Jiang Tianling if they wouldn't want to know the true thoughts of the people they liked. Both brothers simultaneously looked at Shui Wuxia, who, feeling awkward, quickly excused herself to go see Ba Xi.
Shui Wuxia, determined to get clear answers from Shen Qingli, asked Ba Xi to arrange a meeting. Ba Xi went to acquire a "Truth Pill" for her but, in her haste, mistakenly picked up a "Golden Phoenix Dew Pill" instead, a white, plain-looking drug. This pill had an effect that would lead to uncontrollable desire. Meanwhile, Jiang Baiyu, out shopping with Fang Yuncheng, noticed red lanterns hanging, a prearranged signal indicating that Shui Wuxia was meeting Shen Qingli.
Jiang Baiyu quickly changed into his Shen Qingli disguise and headed to the meeting spot. Ba Xi stealthily added the mistaken pill to Shen Qingli's medicine. Shui Wuxia, having given him the concoction, began to voice her deep-seated doubts: about the bracelet he wore, whether he had pledged his love to someone else, and why he had seemed so attentive to her while simultaneously keeping secrets. As she pressed him for honesty, the pill took full effect.
Shen Qingli began to sweat profusely and, losing control, made an inappropriate advance toward her. Just then, Ba Xi arrived. Witnessing the scene, Shen Qingli fled in haste. The traumatic incident shattered Shui Wuxia's lingering feelings for Shen Qingli, effectively ending any possibility of a future between them. Later that evening, Fang Yuncheng tried to apologize to Qi Delong by setting off fireworks.
Jiang Tianling, appearing on a nearby rooftop, made a comment that Qi Delong happily misinterpreted as a romantic gesture from Jiang Tianling himself, making her happy. Still shaken and upset by the earlier events, Shui Wuxia stood alone outside. Jiang Tianling saw her and joined her. He shared how, despite his rational nature, he found solace in gazing at the vast, starry sky when overwhelmed by emotions, feeling his worries dissipate.
He asked if she felt the same and then talked about astrology, mentioning his guardian star, the Star of Longevity, which symbolizes maturity and prudence. He then pointed out the next star, the Star of Blessing, representing all good things, and asked if it was her guardian star. He subtly inquired about her birthday, to which she replied it was July 17th on the lunar calendar, adding that she didn't celebrate it.
He then mused that even though the Star of Longevity and the Star of Blessing are close, they are separated by the Milky Way and can never meet, just as people, no matter how close, can find it difficult to truly understand each other. As Jiang Tianling continued to speak, Jiang Baiyu suddenly appeared, interrupting their conversation.
He sternly pulled Shui Wuxia away, demanding to know why she was out so late with his brother and accusing her of being in a bad mood, a charge she vehemently denied.
