Following the decision to merge the investigation of the recent suspicious deaths, Gao Liang meticulously disguises himself and enters a secluded rental apartment. He accesses a computer to browse Yu Xiaona’s webpage, his focused gaze suggesting the formulation of a new, calculated plan. Meanwhile, the police re-examine the circumstances surrounding the earlier cases. Although Cheng Jianmin’s official cause of death was a heart attack, the discovery of his medication left conspicuously next to his body raised immediate red flags.

Furthermore, despite his habit of never using heat, the heating system in his home had been strangely activated on the very day he died. Leng Qiming visits the neighborhood committee to delve into Cheng Jianmin’s background. He learns that the old man’s children, who live abroad and typically neglect him, had recently returned to engage in a bitter, chaotic dispute over his inheritance.

During one particularly violent argument, the children pushed the old man to the ground, requiring help from committee members to return him home. When questioned about the heating, a staff member recalls that neighbors had frequently pressured the old man to turn it on to keep the surrounding units warm. Back at the police station, the greed of Cheng’s children is on full display as they continue to argue over the estate even after their father's death.

Ye Qian tracks down Cheng Xiaowei to investigate a gas leak report from the previous year. Xiaowei recounts how a young girl borrowed his phone to call for help during the incident. In the ensuing confusion at the fire scene, he lost his company vest.

This detail proves vital when forensic testing reveals that the red fibers found at the scene of Liu Xiaofeng’s death are an exact match for the material of that missing vest, establishing a tangible link between the girl and the crimes. The investigation leads Si Yuanlong and Ye Qian to a local guesthouse. While they find a security camera mounted on a tree, its range is unfortunately limited.

The owner expresses frustration over the death of a guest named Zhou Lianqin, whose body was found hanging in a room shortly after the business opened. Since the reservation and payment were handled entirely online, the owner had no direct contact with the family and only entered the room after the guest failed to emerge for several days. Based on the scene, Si Yuanlong suspects that Zhou might have been rendered unconscious before being hoisted up with a pulley system.

As Jiao Lei and Ye Qian review surveillance footage, they spot a delivery driver near the resort whose physical build bears a striking resemblance to Gao Liang. Elsewhere, Wen Yong’s wife arrives at the station to report her husband missing. He has been out of contact for two months, and she refuses to accept the police’s previous assertions regarding his involvement with prostitutes.

Leng Qiming notices scars on her arms, but she remains evasive when asked about them, despite her insistence that their marriage was harmonious. Leng Qiming eventually locates the last woman to see Wen Yong alive. She reveals a startling story: while Wen Yong was brutally beating her, a mysterious girl in red intervened. With a quick, decisive movement, the girl killed Wen Yong and vanished.

The witness had initially assumed the killer was Wen Yong's wife, given that their history of domestic violence had previously made the news. It appears the elusive girl in red has been acting as a vigilante across multiple cases. Later that evening, Gao Liang boards a bus and takes interest in a woman, eventually following her back to her apartment building.
