Sang Ji brought Shao Xin, transformed into a snake, back to the Heavenly Palace's Lotus Pond. He promised her he would find a way to formally introduce her to all the immortals so she could receive their worship. Shao Xin understood his difficult position. Soon after, Lian Song arrived and confronted Sang Ji, realizing the woman was Bai Qian's maidservant.
Lian Song urgently advised Sang Ji to send the "little Bashe snake" back to Green Hill before the Heavenly Monarch returned. He explained that after High God Mo Yuan's spirit shattered 70,000 years ago, the Heavenly Realm's minor tribe leaders became increasingly disgruntled with the Heavenly Monarch. The marriage alliance with Green Hill was intended to stabilize the Heavenly Monarch's authority.
Lian Song argued that by bringing in Bai Qian's maidservant and planning to marry her before even marrying Bai Qian, Sang Ji would make the Fox Empress Bai Qian a laughingstock, implying she was inferior to a little Bashe snake. However, Sang Ji, deeply in love, was unmoved. He insisted on breaking off his engagement with Bai Qian and taking Shao Xin as his consort.
Upon the Heavenly Monarch's return, Sang Ji knelt before him, begging for the cancellation of his engagement with Bai Qian and permission to marry Shao Xin. Sang Ji argued that Bai Qian did not value the marriage, citing her absence in Green Hill during his visit and accusing her of arrogance. The Heavenly Monarch, enraged, struck Sang Ji. He then ordered Shao Xin to be brought to the main hall.
To protect Sang Ji, Shao Xin feigned ignorance, claiming she did not know him. Determined to make Sang Ji give up, the Heavenly Monarch had Shao Xin imprisoned in the Demon Tower, asserting that the marriage alliance with Green Hill was non-negotiable. Despite Sang Ji's pleas, the Heavenly Monarch coldly departed. As the Heavenly Monarch walked out, he encountered Ye Hua, who had been waiting for some time.
The Heavenly Monarch reminded Ye Hua of his destiny as the future Heavenly Monarch, burdened with the responsibility of governing the Four Seas and Eight Wildernesses. He emphasized that while Ye Hua could have many concubines, he must never allow a woman to compromise his principles, stating that Ye Hua was born for the realm, not for personal passions. Ye Hua, always respectful and unquestioning of the Heavenly Monarch's teachings, affirmed his understanding.
Shortly after, Si Ming Xingjun arrived to report on the Fiery Golden Lion wreaking havoc in the mortal realm. The Heavenly Monarch commanded Ye Hua to subdue the beast, which once belonged to Qing Cang, to establish his authority and prepare for his future role.
After the Heavenly Monarch left, Si Ming specifically cautioned Ye Hua against disrupting the mortals' fate during his mission, explaining that any involvement between immortals and mortals could upset heavenly laws and potentially harm Ye Hua. Back in his sleeping quarters, Ye Hua dreamt of his past, specifically when he was 20,000 years old. He recalled asking the Heavenly Monarch for permission to see his mother, Le Xu.
The Heavenly Monarch, intent on cultivating Ye Hua to be his successor, had initially refused, believing that a kind mother would raise an indecisive and gentle son, unfit for the throne. However, after Ye Hua's persistent pleading, the Heavenly Monarch finally promised to grant his request if he could undergo his tribulation and achieve High Immortal rank before his 20,000th birthday. The day of his tribulation came, marked by rolling heavenly thunder.
Other immortals worried, noting that the heavenly lightning was formidable enough to take his life, especially for one so young. Despite the severity of the three bolts of heavenly lightning, Ye Hua faced them without fear. Severely wounded and covered in blood, he endured, then painstakingly made his way to the Heavenly Monarch, reminding him of his promise. Impressed by Ye Hua's resolve, the Heavenly Monarch permitted him to see his mother.
Since his birth, Ye Hua had been raised directly by the Heavenly Monarch, and Le Xu had not seen her son for 20,000 years. Their reunion was heart-wrenching, as Le Xu found Ye Hua covered in blood and scars. Distraught, she cried, wishing he could simply be an ordinary Water Monarch rather than endure such immense suffering.
The Eldest Prince, present at the scene, tried to console Le Xu by reminding her of Ye Hua's destiny as the future Heavenly Monarch. Ye Hua, in turn, tried to comfort his mother, taking the blame for wearing light-colored clothes during his tribulation, and promised to only wear black in the future so she wouldn't see his wounds. Le Xu, however, lamented that he was only learning to hide his pain.
Later, as Ye Hua lay in bed, he dreamt of a white-robed youth standing by High God Mo Yuan's immortal body in Kunlun Mountains, a sight that inexplicably filled him with sorrow. He awoke to find Su Jin by his side, ready to change his clothes and offering him food. Ye Hua, reflecting on his dream, wondered about the shadowy figure that kept appearing.
Su Jin, meanwhile, remarked on Ye Hua's constant black attire, suggesting it gave him a heavy demeanor unsuitable for a youth. She then recounted the scandal involving Sang Ji and the "little Bashe snake," and confessed her relief that Sang Ji chose Shao Xin, as she feared that if Bai Qian, a powerful female monarch and their senior, were to enter the Heavenly Palace, life for them might become uncomfortable. Ye Hua listened silently.
Meanwhile, Sang Ji attempted to force his way into the Demon Tower to reach Shao Xin, but was stopped by guards citing the Heavenly Monarch's orders. Lian Song intervened, explaining that while entry was forbidden, speaking to her was not. Sang Ji then called out to Shao Xin, whose faint replies indicated her suffering at the hands of vile beasts within the tower.
She expressed her gratitude for his kindness, calling meeting him her greatest fortune, second only to Bai Qian, before her voice faded. Realizing Shao Xin was in grave danger due to her low cultivation, Sang Ji felt desperate. With no other options, Sang Ji again sought an audience with the Heavenly Monarch, who was conversing with Ye Hua at the time, expressing his dismay at Sang Ji's actions in contrast to Ye Hua's disciplined nature.
Despite having been ordered to reflect on his actions, Sang Ji knelt outside the Purple Morning Palace. Once admitted, Sang Ji tearfully pleaded for Shao Xin's release. The Heavenly Monarch remained unmoved, chastising Sang Ji for becoming a laughingstock across the Four Seas and Eight Wildernesses. Sang Ji then threatened to kill himself if Shao Xin was not freed. The Heavenly Monarch, however, warned that if Sang Ji died, he would torture Shao Xin even more severely.
In front of Ye Hua, the Heavenly Monarch sternly rebuked Sang Ji for disregarding proper conduct and threatening his own life over a mere woman, declaring that as a prince, he could have many consorts but must never let personal passion override his responsibilities. He concluded that Sang Ji's actions were the cause of Shao Xin's suffering and ordered him to leave. The Fox Emperor visited Zhe Yan, expressing his fury that the Heavenly Tribe had shamed Bai Qian.
Zhe Yan and the Fox Emperor resolved to confront the Heavenly Monarch together, not only to break off the engagement but also to demand an apology from the Heavenly Tribe. Zhe Yan informed the Fox Emperor that Bai Qian, who had been sleeping in the Peach Blossom Forest for over five days, also did not wish to marry Sang Ji, suggesting Green Hill take the initiative to sever the alliance.
Meanwhile, Bai Zhen woke Bai Qian, who was still disoriented after five days of sleep. Bai Zhen inquired if she was distressed by Sang Ji's intention to break off the engagement. Bai Qian laughed, explaining that she had only met Sang Ji once as Si Yin and had no feelings for him, so the broken engagement did not trouble her. Bai Zhen then reminded her that it was her birthday, which Bai Qian had completely forgotten in her daze.
She asked about Fengjiu, and Bai Zhen assured her that Fengjiu, who had been with her since childhood and was more filial than her own father, would surely return for her birthday. Elsewhere, Fengjiu, attempting a shortcut back to Green Hill, mistakenly entered the Winged Tribe's bamboo forest, where she encountered the fierce Fiery Golden Lion. Outmatched, she fled in panic. Just as she was in mortal danger, Emperor Donghua appeared and repelled the beast.
Fengjiu, who had previously seen a painting of Emperor Donghua in Zhe Yan's library, was awestruck to see him in person. Donghua inquired about her identity, and Fengjiu, introducing herself as Bai Fengjiu, a Nine-Tailed Fox Princess from Green Hill's Northern Wilderness, formally greeted him. Donghua playfully noted her fear of the Golden Lion and observed that she had not yet transcended to immortal rank.
Fengjiu, upholding her aunt Bai Qian's teaching that favors must be returned, insisted on repaying his kindness, despite Donghua's dismissal. Donghua then revealed that her aunt and the Heavenly Tribe shared a strong affinity, which surprised Fengjiu, as Bai Qian never mentioned it and seemed reluctant to speak of the Heavenly Tribe. Donghua then disclosed that Zhe Yan and her grandfather, the Fox Emperor Bai Zhi, were currently at the Heavenly Palace demanding an explanation for Bai Qian.
Fengjiu continued to follow Donghua, intent on repaying his kindness, despite his indifference. Donghua led them to the site of the Donghuang Bell, where Qing Cang was sealed. He explained to the local immortal guarding the bell that he had recently detected unusual activity and feared Qing Cang might be stirring.
Donghua gave the immortal a magical bell, instructing him to closely monitor the Donghuang Bell's movements for the next ten days and to use the bell to notify him immediately if any anomalies occurred. Donghua then coldly dismissed Fengjiu's attempts to speak further, returning to the Heavenly Palace. Fengjiu, surprisingly, did not feel disheartened by his aloofness. Meanwhile, Princess Yan Zhi of the Winged Tribe visited her father, Qing Cang, at the riverside where the Donghuang Bell was sealed.
She lamented the disappearance of her eldest brother, Li Yuan, since the Great Battle, and her second brother, Li Jing, who, despite inheriting the Winged Monarch title, still resented Qing Cang for killing their birth mother and had not visited in 70,000 years. Yan Zhi felt utterly alone and prayed for Li Yuan's swift return. Within the Donghuang Bell, Qing Cang slowly opened his eyes. Back in the Heavenly Palace, Lian Song followed Ye Hua, eventually revealing his true purpose.
He acknowledged Ye Hua's unparalleled achievements and his position as the Crown Prince, yet he perceived Ye Hua as incomplete, lacking a "love tribulation" to truly understand life. Lian Song then candidly proposed that Ye Hua replace Sang Ji in marrying Bai Qian to appease Green Hill and resolve the current crisis. He argued that only Ye Hua, who had effectively managed official affairs for 20,000 years and was widely recognized as the Crown Prince, could placate the Fox Tribe.
Ye Hua, deducing Lian Song's intention to save Sang Ji from a terrible mistake, calmly agreed. When Lian Song expressed surprise at his easy acceptance, noting Bai Qian was 90,000 years his senior, Ye Hua dismissed the age difference, stating it was merely an additional person to sleep by his side and thus not difficult.
Simultaneously, the Fox Emperor and Zhe Yan confronted the Heavenly Monarch, demanding the annulment of the marriage alliance due to the public humiliation inflicted upon Bai Qian. While the Heavenly Monarch expressed shame over the incident, he vehemently refused to cancel the engagement, promising the Fox Tribe a proper explanation.
