> Resumos de Unveil: Jadewind
Li Peiyi and Xiao Huaijin examine the modest residence of the Imperial Physician Luo Zhian. A servant reveals that despite his low personal spending, Luo’s expenses are high because he regularly sends his stipend home. In the backyard, the pair discovers a beehive containing hidden ginseng seeds, confirming Li Peiyi’s suspicion that Luo was the one who stole the precious medicine.
They set out to find him but soon discover his body on a secluded path known as the "Yin-Yang Road." Based on the level of rigor mortis, Li Peiyi estimates he died about half an hour (two ke) ago. Although his death appears to be caused by a heart attack (chest bi), there are clear drag marks indicating his body was moved into the shadows after he fell.
Tucked inside his mouth is a familiar yellow talisman reading: "Welcome White Asura." Li Peiyi questions Luo’s student, Zhao Yudi, who is now a practicing physician herself. Zhao recalls that a month ago, while returning from treating Consort Su late at night, she and Luo encountered a terrifying "female ghost" in white on the Yin-Yang Road. The apparition called Luo by his title, causing him to suffer a severe heart attack from the shock.
Since that night, Luo had forbidden her from walking that path. Li Peiyi, refusing to believe in the supernatural, has Xiao Huaijin disguise himself as Luo Zhian to bait the spirit. They successfully corner the "ghost," who is revealed to be Dong Cairen, a formerly favored consort now living in the derelict Qinghui Palace. Dong’s maid, Dianjiang, explains the consort’s tragic history.
Years ago, seeking to maintain the Emperor's favor, Dong had Luo Zhian provide her with Cold Food Powder to make her skin pale and radiant. While it worked initially, the drug caused hallucinations and severe nearsightedness. When the Emperor grew repulsed by her vacant, unfocused gaze, Dong begged Luo for a cure. Luo, who had already secured a high position and no longer needed her influence, used an aggressive acupuncture technique that resulted in her total blindness.
Trapped in her own world, Dong would visit the mural on the Yin-Yang Road to relive her past glory. On the night Luo died, the two women encountered him again; during the confrontation, Luo suffered a fatal heart attack. Dong and Dianjiang then dragged his body to the boundary of light and shadow to ensure his soul would never find peace. However, a deeper autopsy by Zhao Yudi reveals needle marks on Luo's Danzhong, Neiguan, and Quze acupoints.
It appears Luo had used his own skills to intentionally trigger the fatal attack, choosing to end his life just as he was about to be promoted to Medical Lead after treating Consort Shu. Li Peiyi suspects Dianjiang is still hiding something, but when she returns to the palace, she finds the maid dead. Dianjiang’s body is pinned to a wooden post, dressed in a magnificent ceremonial gown that had once belonged to Consort Shu.
Despite her hands being tied, she appears to have been strangled. Investigation reveals that Dianjiang was once a top embroiderer who was demoted after she was caught secretly wearing the Consort's gown. Recently, sores on her hands had prevented her from sewing, which devastated her. Li Peiyi discovers that the "White Peony Balm" Dianjiang used was laced with a mysterious toxin.
By re-enacting the scene, Li Peiyi and her team deduce that Dianjiang used a rattan-fiber cord, which shrinks and tightens as it cools or dries. She had also taken Softening Powder to prevent herself from struggling during the slow strangulation. This leads them to Fuqu, a maid who had orchestrated the theft of the gown during a commotion caused by Consort Shu’s parrot, Lady in Snow. Fuqu is caught performing a ritual for White Asura and confesses her involvement.
She claims the deaths were voluntary acts of devotion. Fuqu reveals that her own sister, Gonglian, had jumped to her death two years ago as part of the same cult. Many followers, including Luo Zhian and Pan Yongqi, had "helped" each other fulfill their destinies to welcome the deity. The investigation eventually leads to the capture of Wang Anping, a Southwestern shaman posing as the White Asura. While he admits to running a scam to collect money from superstitious palace staff, he insists the followers' deaths were of their own making.
