At the imperial court, Bing Zhu confronts Ji Yan with deep suspicion. He knows that the Kunlun Mirror has not yet been fully assembled, making it impossible for Ji Yan to have obtained the genuine Yuli Spring water. He accuses Ji Yan of the grave crime of deceiving the Emperor with a fake tribute. However, the Emperor, appearing weak and supported by attendants, has already been manipulated into believing Bing Zhu is the traitor.

To seal the trap, two former attendants of Immortal Lord Suimeng testify against Bing Zhu, claiming they were granted the spring water for their service on the celestial mountain but that Bing Zhu attempted to embezzle it and kill them to cover his tracks.

Despite Bing Zhu’s pleas, the Emperor remains cold and sentences him to execution at three quarters past noon the following day outside the Meridian Gate, vowing to bring all officials to witness the spring's supposed effects on the prisoner. Meanwhile, in the human realm, Xiao Yao and Hong Ye enjoy the lively Lantern Festival. Xiao Yao treats Hong Ye to fireworks, discreetly shielding him from stray sparks—an act of protection Hong Ye notices but keeps to himself.

At a "Wish-Fulfilling Rings" stall, Hong Ye’s skill wins them silver, but the dishonest owner tries to change the rules to avoid paying. Xiao Yao quickly devises a plan; on her signal, Hong Ye faints, allowing her to play the part of a grieving wife whose sick husband was struck by a crooked businessman. The local crowd and the arrival of an officer force the cornered owner to hand over the silver.

Later, while dining at a restaurant, Hong Ye’s striking appearance draws the gaze of every woman in the room. Feeling out of place and unable to stomach the medicinal dishes Xiao Yao ordered for his recovery, Hong Ye slips away for a walk. His stroll leads him to a rouge shop, where his radiant complexion causes a stir among the customers.

Seizing the opportunity, Hong Ye strikes a deal with the owner to endorse the products, earning enough money to buy a sky lantern. He returns to find a worried Xiao Yao, and they release the lantern together. Xiao Yao wishes for Hong Ye to regain his powers and stay safe, while Hong Ye wishes for time to pause. For a brief moment, the world around them freezes.

He takes the chance to kiss Xiao Yao, but as his magic fades, he teases her to hide his actions. As night falls, the pair finds most inns are fully booked for the festival. Pretending to be a couple, they secure the last available room. Feeling shy about sharing the space, Xiao Yao makes an excuse to go out for a late-night snack.

While outside, she witnesses a commotion and realizes the Feiyu Guards have captured Luoluo, a boar demon from her home. It is an ambush using demons as bait. Though her spiritual power is weak, Xiao Yao tries to intervene but is quickly outmatched. Hong Ye arrives and uses a clever bluff involving smoke and fire oil to intimidate the guards, allowing them to escape.

Luoluo delivers devastating news: Heiwu has led a surprise attack on Demons' Valley, seriously injuring Xiao Ming and Xiao Mu. Heiwu has seized the throne, removed the protective barriers, and is now working with the Feiyu Guards to send fellow demons to the Emperor as offerings twice a month. Hong Ye is filled with regret for not killing Heiwu sooner. Realizing the situation is dire, he decides he must return to reclaim his home.

That night, while Xiao Yao is asleep, he watches her one last time, wishing for her to have a better life in the human realm before leaving with Luoluo. Back in the city, news of Bing Zhu’s arrest reaches Lu Pianpian. In the death row cell, Ji Yan presents Bing Zhu with fabricated charges, including collusion with the Demon King and the murder of officials' daughters.

When Bing Zhu refuses to sign the false confession, Ji Yan threatens to cut off his hand to use it for a forced thumbprint. Determined to save him, Lu Pianpian breaks into the prison with the help of Tan'er. Although she fights fiercely with her demon-slaying blade, the guards realize she is human and their anti-demon formations are useless against her; however, they manage to block the cell door to keep her away from Bing Zhu.

Realizing the rescue is failing, Bing Zhu urges Tan'er to take Pianpian and flee. Outside, as dawn approaches, the city is heavily guarded. Desperate, Pianpian retrieves the Exquisite Crystal Heart left behind by Immortal Lord Suimeng. Using its power, she transforms herself into a Mei, intending to infiltrate the palace and confront the Emperor directly to save her friend.
