In the Imperial Mausoleum, Tusu and Lansheng find themselves in an empty coffin chamber adorned with a Bagua diagram, where they learn the entire mausoleum is enveloped by a mercury array. Tusu places his hope in Lansheng to decipher the complex mechanisms. Meanwhile, Hong Yu, Lingyue, and Qingxue are separately trapped in different sections, battling formidable arrays alone and nearing their limits.

Lansheng, despite an earlier error while attempting to solve the array, which nearly led to him being hit by hidden weapons (and Tusu saving him), perseveres. He successfully identifies the array's eye, finding a rope protruding from a tiger's head. Pulling this rope unlocks the main door, allowing Hong Yu, Lingyue, and Qingxue to escape their perilous confinement. However, the door requires someone to continuously hold the rope open. Lansheng insists on doing this, urging Tusu to prioritize saving Shaogong.

Tusu, left with no other choice, proceeds alone. Meanwhile, Liyan, informed of Tusu's group entering to rescue Shaogong, dispatches his subordinate Yuan Wu to monitor the external situation while he continues to oversee Shaogong's pill refinement. Shaogong eventually completes the desired pill. Liyan eagerly seizes it, overjoyed. When Tusu confronts him, Liyan ties up Shaogong and Xun Fang. Tusu recognizes Liyan as the "Ghost-faced Man" responsible for destroying his clan in Wu Meng Valley.

Liyan openly admits his crimes and attempts to provoke Tusu, intending to prevent him from using the Sword of Burning Solitude. Tusu, whose evil energy intensifies, realizes Liyan's true target is the Sword of Burning Solitude. He decides to forgo the Sword of Burning Solitude, intending to fight Liyan using Tianyong City techniques. However, traditional magic is suppressed within the mausoleum. Tusu instead unleashes his "Star Resonance" power, becoming immensely powerful and injuring Liyan, who is no match for him.

Just as Tusu wounds Liyan, Qingxue and Hong Yu arrive. Liyan uses this opportunity to escape. Tusu then frees Shaogong and Xun Fang. Hong Yu questions Shaogong about refining the pill for Liyan, to which Shaogong confesses he was compelled by the circumstances. The fake Xun Fang, feigning remorse, tearfully blames herself for the predicament and flees the mausoleum, seemingly wanting to abandon Shaogong. Liyan, severely injured, immediately consumes the newly acquired pill and begins to heal.

Shaogong follows Xun Fang out, reassuring her that he will never blame her for anything she does. Tusu's group, including Qingxue and Hong Yu, also exits the mausoleum, where they regroup with Yin Qianshang. Unexpectedly, Liyan, now demonized and greatly empowered by the pill, suddenly reappears and attacks Shaogong. The fake Xun Fang heroically shields Shaogong and is injured. Liyan then seizes Shaogong. Lansheng rushes forward to rescue Shaogong but is also wounded by Liyan.

With Liyan's enhanced power, everyone else is injured as well. Amidst a chaotic storm of flying sand and stones, Liyan continuously gathers energy. Tusu, whose evil energy surges, charges at Liyan with the Sword of Burning Solitude, fiercely stabbing him. Tusu himself is thrown to the ground, spitting blood.

Before perishing, Liyan declares he has no regrets dying by the Sword of Burning Solitude and will eternally withhold a secret from Shaogong, ensuring he suffers the unending sorrow of unattainability, before disintegrating into ash. Following Liyan's defeat, everyone breathes a sigh of relief. Shaogong brings up the plan to use Yuheng to absorb Tusu's evil energy. However, seeing how Liyan was demonized by a Yuheng-refined pill, everyone expresses concern about its suitability for Tusu.

Shaogong states he needs more time to research Yuheng. He then suggests that Lingyue and Hong Yu return to Tianyong City to clear Tusu's name. Hong Yu requests Lingyue to remain with Tusu while she goes to Tianyong City to report to the sect leader. Privately, Hong Yu confides in Lingyue that Liyan's death leaves too many unresolved questions.

Still suspicious of Shaogong, she instructs Lingyue to thoroughly investigate the Qingyu Altar in her absence, to guard against anyone else coveting the Sword of Burning Solitude. Meanwhile, Ruqin, deep in thought while tending to medicine pots, is visited by Shaogong. Still harboring affection, she expresses her wish for Shaogong, Tong Yi, and Xun Fang to return to Qinchuan together. Shaogong avoids a direct commitment but gently advises Ruqin against her continued affection.

Ruqin, however, assures him that her feelings are sincere and he needn't be concerned. The fake Xun Fang dreams of her betrayal of Shaogong, her obtaining an appearance-altering pill from Liyan, and Shaogong's eventual discovery. She wakes with a start to find Shaogong beside her bed. He gently comforts her, embracing her and promising to be together forever. Qingxue decides to inform Youdu Granny about Yuheng, a plan Tusu and Lingyue support.

Qingxue contacts Youdu Granny, who vehemently opposes the use of Yuheng, branding it a vile object. She instructs Qingxue to contain the person possessing Yuheng, promising to immediately dispatch help from Youdu to retrieve it, before ending the communication. Qingxue is taken aback by this turn of events. Lingyue acknowledges their oversight, admitting he hadn't fully considered the long-standing animosity between Tianyong City and Youdu.

Tusu, feeling he has burdened his friends, but encouraged by Lansheng to accept their kindness and live without regret, decides to conclude current matters before traveling to Youdu to explain the situation to Youdu Granny. However, Qingxue knows Tusu intends to use Yuheng to resurrect his mother, which reignites their disagreement. Though Qingxue opposes Tusu's attempt at resurrection, Tusu remains resolute, believing there's nothing wrong with his desire to revive his mother.

Qingxue eventually relents, asking him only to first ascertain Shaogong's precise method for saving his mother. Tusu then discusses the possibility of resurrection with Yuheng with Shaogong and relays Qingxue's concerns. Shaogong mockingly suggests that since Qingxue is from Youdu, the very origin of resurrection techniques, she must know the method but is unwilling to let Tusu take risks or compromise her principles regarding the Sword of Burning Solitude.

Tusu, though confident Qingxue wouldn't deceive him, finds Shaogong's arguments somewhat persuasive. Shaogong continues to sow discord between Tusu and Qingxue, implying Qingxue has not been entirely truthful. Qingxue suddenly enters, directly confronting Shaogong about his method for resurrecting Tusu's mother. Shaogong claims Youdu also possesses resurrection magic that utilizes Yuheng. Qingxue does not deny this but clarifies that it is merely a legend. Shaogong, however, expresses his determination to attempt it, leading to an argument with Qingxue.

Qingxue bluntly points out that Shaogong has changed since returning from the mausoleum. Shaogong explains his behavior is due to excessive anxiety over Xun Fang's and Tong Yi's injuries. He then informs Tusu that a Moon Spirit Flower from the peak of Yaoshan is also required for the resurrection pill, advising him to consult Lingyue before making a decision. Tusu immediately goes to find Lingyue.

Qingxue follows, asking if he is truly resolved, but Tusu reaffirms his decision and asks Qingxue to return to Youdu first. Shaogong, knowing it is impossible to refine a resurrection pill, continues to instigate Tusu to believe it can be achieved.
