Situ Mo, a senior accounting student, had yet to secure a job because her true passion lay in advertising. She was still holding onto hope that her relationship with her good friend, Fu Pei, would evolve beyond friendship. One morning, Fu Pei called her to come downstairs as he was there to take her to a job interview. Situ Mo, in a rush, accidentally dropped her phone, cracking the screen, but had to leave quickly.
As they rode to the interview on Fu Pei's bicycle, they nearly collided with another student, Gu Weiyi, who was also cycling. The near-miss caused Situ Mo to fall, and her skirt got caught in the bike chain. Gu Weiyi, noticing her predicament, helped by tearing the stuck part of her skirt to free her. Despite being a bit ruffled, they continued on their way.
At the advertising company, Situ Mo entered for her interview, while Fu Pei waited outside, engrossed in a mobile game. Shortly after, a friend called Fu Pei, urging him to join a gaming session. Promising Situ Mo he would buy her a new dress, Fu Pei promptly left her alone at the interview building to head to a nearby cyber cafe. Inside, Situ Mo introduced herself to the interviewers, explaining her passion for advertising despite her accounting major.
She presented what she thought was her creative work. However, she soon realized that she had mistakenly picked up Gu Weiyi's bag, and the "creative work" was actually his physics project materials for "Quantum Mechanics: A Genius's Game." Her unprofessional presentation, combined with her torn skirt, led the interviewers to dismiss her, feeling she wasn't taking the opportunity seriously. Meanwhile, Gu Weiyi arrived at his crucial project selection exam for Professor Jiang's project.
Upon opening his bag, he discovered Situ Mo's personal items instead of his own admission ticket and materials. Deeply embarrassed and unable to present his required documents, he was turned away from the exam. Upon learning of the bag mix-up, Fu Pei arranged for them all to meet and exchange their belongings. When they met, Fu Pei formally introduced Situ Mo and Gu Weiyi. As Situ Mo inspected her bag, she noticed her sanitary pads were missing.
Gu Weiyi, looking embarrassed, tried to explain, but Situ Mo jokingly told him to keep them as a gift. When he replied he had no use for them, she asked for them back, but he left awkwardly without returning them. Back in her dorm, Situ Mo recounted the day's events to her roommates.
Her roommate, Wang Shan, immediately launched into a lecture, chastising Situ Mo for pursuing advertising instead of her accounting major and stressing the importance of diligent planning for the upcoming campus recruitment fair. Wang Shan then reminded everyone to take the next day's event seriously and find jobs relevant to their majors. The following day, at the campus recruitment fair, an unexpected computer malfunction interrupted a company presentation.
To everyone's surprise, Gu Weiyi, clad in a white lab coat, arrived to fix the problem, earning many admiring glances. He quickly restored the computer. Amidst the crowd, he then singled out Situ Mo, asking her to retrieve some keys for Fu Pei from a nearby drawer, and she did so. Later, in his lab, Gu Weiyi was confronted by his teacher, Mr. Xu, regarding his absence from the Professor Jiang project selection exam.
Gu Weiyi explained that he had an unexpected issue and hadn't brought his student ID. Mr. Xu, lamenting the lost opportunity, tried to persuade Gu Weiyi to meet Professor Jiang privately, suggesting his excellent academic record could secure him a spot. Gu Weiyi firmly declined, stating that such an approach would be unfair to the other students. He then politely asked Mr. Xu to leave him to his experiments.
Meanwhile, Fu Pei surprised Situ Mo, offering to take her to lunch. He expressed regret for not taking better care of her when they were on different campuses and promised to protect her now that they were in the same school. Situ Mo mentioned an upcoming interview at a distant location, and Fu Pei earnestly promised to accompany her, assuring her he wouldn't abandon her again.
That evening, Situ Mo went to a repair shop to fix her cracked phone screen. Coincidentally, Gu Weiyi was also there, buying a new screen to replace himself. The shop attendant informed him that the cost of buying a screen was the same as having it professionally repaired.
After successfully replacing his own screen using the shop's tools, Gu Weiyi insisted on replacing Situ Mo's screen too, offering to pay for it as he wanted to practice on a different phone model. Despite Situ Mo's hesitation, he carefully replaced her screen, transferred her the payment for both screens, and left. On the day of her second interview, Situ Mo waited at a bus station for Fu Pei.
She tried calling him, but he was unreachable, having forgotten his promise to play basketball instead. Realizing she would be late if she waited any longer, Situ Mo decided to go alone. As she walked towards the remote company location, a mugger suddenly appeared, snatching her bag and causing her to fall, scraping her knee and hands. Devastated, Situ Mo called the company to explain her situation and reschedule the interview. Still in distress, she tried calling Fu Pei again.
This time, Gu Weiyi answered Fu Pei's phone. Tearfully, Situ Mo described her ordeal – robbed, no money, injured, and her phone battery dying. She pleaded with Gu Weiyi to inform Fu Pei and ask him to come to the Luo He Road bus station. Gu Weiyi immediately tried to locate Fu Pei, even calling his friend, A Ke, but to no avail.
Unable to find Fu Pei and realizing the severity of Situ Mo's situation, Gu Weiyi went to her himself. He arrived at the bus station in a car he had arranged. A surprised Situ Mo asked why he was there, and he explained he couldn't find Fu Pei and urged her to get in, noting the difficulty of finding a taxi in that area. In the car, Gu Weiyi instructed the driver to take them to the nearest hospital.
Situ Mo initially protested, but Gu Weiyi warned her of the dangers of untreated wounds, dramatically detailing how skin abrasions could lead to bacterial infection and, in the worst-case scenario, amputation. Terrified, Situ Mo quickly urged the driver to speed up. Upon arrival, Situ Mo had no identification for registration. Gu Weiyi went to sort it out and returned with a wheelchair. Situ Mo felt embarrassed, but Gu Weiyi's earlier warnings prompted her to reluctantly get into the chair.
During the examination, the doctor learned her injuries were merely scrapes and lightheartedly teased them for using a wheelchair for such minor abrasions, joking that they were just "showing affection." After her wounds were dressed, Fu Pei rushed into the room. He took the prescription from Gu Weiyi and, grabbing the wheelchair, rushed off to the pharmacy to fetch the medicine, leaving Situ Mo behind and feeling overlooked.
Watching his thoughtless departure, Situ Mo was overcome with a profound sense of disappointment, realizing that her expectations of Fu Pei were misplaced and that they were perpetually on different wavelengths. She struggled to hold back tears, pretending to wipe sweat from her face. Seeing her distress, Gu Weiyi instinctively moved closer to offer comfort. Later, in an effort to make amends, Gu Weiyi goes to a store to buy a replacement pack of sanitary pads. He is visibly uncomfortable as the sales attendant, assuming he is buying for his girlfriend, presses him about brands and the product's comfort, to his acute embarrassment.
