Continuing from their long separation, the two brothers finally reunite. Overjoyed to see his brother awake, Zhang Hailou eagerly moves in for a warm embrace. However, their mentor, Zhang Haiqi, interrupts the emotional moment by tossing an object that strikes and lightly injures Zhang Hailou. Though Zhang Haixia is happy to be awake, he secretly senses a strange, inexplicable sensation stirring deep within himself.
As Zhang Haixia helps bandage Zhang Hailou's fresh minor wounds, the brothers revel in the comfort of being together again under one roof. Zhang Haiqi checks on them and explains the remarkable efficacy of the Zhang family's secret medicine. She reveals that thanks to Zhang Hailou's dedicated care and physical therapy over the past three years, Zhang Haixia's spinal muscles have not severely atrophied, meaning there is a genuine hope he might walk again.
To their delight, Zhang Haiqi has also used Dong family funds to repurchase their old ancestral home. Walking through the gates, the trio feels a deep sense of belonging, knowing they finally have their home back. The nostalgia is short-lived, however, as Zhang Haiqi wastes no time testing her disciples. She lures them into a simple trap at the old mansion, leaving them hanging and scolding them for being easily fooled. She declares that they must begin rigorous training immediately.
Zhang Hailou is tasked with mastering the fundamental Zhang family technique of pulling out a brick using only his fingers, while Zhang Haixia is instructed to focus entirely on his rehabilitation exercises. Sensing her own hunger, Zhang Haiqi takes the brothers out to a local restaurant to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival.
Faced with a table laden with nostalgic delicacies like Siguo Soup, pancakes, sandworm jelly, stir-fried dried tofu, pearl meatballs, fresh fish dumplings, lovebirds fish rolls, and American crispy puffs, Zhang Hailou is moved to tears, having longed for these flavors during his ten years of wandering.
Eager to pair the meal with the restaurant's famous twenty-year-old Luzhuchun wine, Zhang Haiqi learns from the waiter that the rare vintage is reserved for whoever wins the festival's traditional dice game to become the Top Scholar. The competitive trio begins rolling the dice. Zhang Haiqi rolls a remarkable Four red fours, only for Zhang Hailou to sneakily cheat his way to a Five kings.
Recognizing his tricks but letting it slide, Zhang Haiqi raises the stakes, proposing that the lowest roller must pay the bill for the entire feast. Fearing his mentor's superior gambling skills, Zhang Hailou conspires with his brother. After Zhang Hailou rolls Six fours, Zhang Haixia takes the bowl and, utilizing his own skills, rolls a spectacular Top Scholar with two aces to win the prized Luzhuchun wine.
To capture the joy of the holiday, they call over a photographer to take a group portrait. Zhang Haixia insists on standing for the photo, prompting a proud Zhang Hailou to support him by his side. Over drinks, Zhang Haiqi announces that she must travel for a few days to settle the chaotic aftermath of the attack on their residence and the Ship King's murder. She encourages the brothers to rest in her absence.
Zhang Haixia promises to prepare her favorite spicy fish once she returns, and they excitedly plan a fishing trip with some high-quality Shilixiang bait. Unfortunately, the weather takes a turn for the worse. A severe typhoon hits Xiacheng, and the housekeeper warns them of superstitious rumors about the heavenly ghost causing trouble.
Trapped indoors by the endless torrential rain, Zhang Hailou finds a way to entertain them by pushing Zhang Haixia's wheelchair at high speeds through the corridors of the mansion, bringing smiles to both of their faces. Once the rain finally subsides, they head to the shore to fish, but the boatman refuses to venture out due to the violently rough waves, declining even when Zhang Hailou offers to double his payment.
During their time at the shore, Zhang Haixia's internal struggles worsen. Spotting a small bug crawling nearby, he suddenly hears a chilling, mocking voice calling him a useless burden. A cruel expression washes over his face, and he ruthlessly crushes the insect. Troubled by his strange behavior, he consults a physician, but the physical examination reveals absolutely nothing wrong with his health.
Zhang Haixia's internal darkness boils over during a walk when he encounters a young boy named Yuanbao trying to coax a pet cat down from a tree. Attempting to help, Zhang Haixia throws a stone to dislodge the feline, but the stone strikes the animal, causing Yuanbao to cry in distress.
When Yuanbao's mother arrives and harshly berates Zhang Haixia for being cruel, a dark, manipulative voice echoes in his mind, convincing him that no one will ever understand or believe his good intentions. Overcome by a sudden, uncontrollable rage, Zhang Haixia violently strangles the cat. When Yuanbao's mother frantically tries to retrieve the pet, he grabs her in his fury, hurting her in the process.
It is only when she desperately wrestles the cat from his grip and runs away with her son that Zhang Haixia snaps back to his senses, horrified and deeply shaken by the monstrous urge that briefly possessed him. The following morning, Zhang Haixia wakes up and is served breakfast by the housekeeper. He proceeds to his room where the doctor is waiting to guide him through another round of physical therapy.
Grasping the parallel bars, he focuses all his energy into moving his legs, taking slow, deliberate steps forward. Though the process is exhausting, his progress is undeniable. Just as he finishes the grueling session, a cheerful Zhang Hailou wheels in, scoops his brother back into the wheelchair, and playfully pushes him down the hall, once again lifting his spirits with their familiar, lighthearted banter.
