> Resúmenes de Light to the Night
After killing the trafficker Mei, Peng Dachuang’s emotions remained volatile. When he rescued a young boy, he nicknamed him "Pony" after his own late son. The boy, distressed by his parents' constant fighting, begged Peng to let him stay. Peng agreed, caring for him like a father, but his mental state fractured when the boy eventually mentioned returning to his real parents and school.
Refusing to be abandoned again, Peng forced the child to stay, claiming he would handle the boy's education at home. To fill his void, Peng began drugging and kidnapping other children, eventually keeping four "ponies" in his care. Among them was Han Zi'ang, who proved difficult to control. When Han attempted to escape, Peng became violent, nearly killing the boy until Han instinctively called him "Dad" (Lao Han'er).
The word reached Peng's buried humanity, causing him to weep and spare the boy. Observing the aftermath, He Xiaohe realized that while Peng had survived the fire that killed his real son, his soul was still trapped in the flames. She reflected on Ran Fangxu’s "domino effect" theory, noting how the loss of Peng’s son had triggered a chain of tragedies.
For Xiaohe, becoming a police officer was her way of "patching" her own family, which had felt incomplete since Ran Fangxu's death. In 2015, He Xiaohe returned Ran Fangxu’s long-held belongings to her father, He Yuanhang. Among the items were letters Ran had written to his grandmother, which had all been returned because the old woman had passed away back in 1992.
Moved by Ran's hidden burdens, He Yuanhang decided to recover data from Ran’s old, fire-damaged phone to find any living relatives. With the help of an old acquaintance at a net cafe, he accessed an email account linked to the phone. He successfully logged in using his own name and birthday as the credentials, realizing that Ran had trusted him above everyone else. Inside the account, they found a draft email written on the very afternoon Ran died in 2003.
Addressed to He Yuanhang, it contained a startling confession: "The June 30th case was wrong. All wrong." He Xiaohe finally understood her father’s condition; two years ago, the shock of seeing this message for the first time had caused him to faint, leading to years of hallucinations where he imagined Ran had returned from Beijing. Memory of the past resurfaced for He Yuanhang.
He recalled a visit to Ran’s apartment in 2002, where Ran and a colleague named Qiao were close. He also remembered Ran's suspicion regarding the "June 30th case" involving Xu Meng. Ran had discovered that a pair of blue high heels—a crucial piece of evidence used to convict Wu Shanlong—had gone missing from the bureau's archives after a pipe burst. Ran had been secretly reinvestigating the case and had discovered blood hidden inside those shoes. Realizing that the truth remained buried, He Yuanhang and Xiaohe knew they had to follow Ran’s final lead to uncover what really happened.
