Yangyang, speaking with her uncle Chen Ke, wondered if her parents would be angry regardless of her custody choice. Chen Ke assured her they wouldn't be so narrow-minded, then pressed her to reveal her decision. Later, Song Xiu was eating alone when Sun Zhewei approached, sarcastically complimenting his handling of the Lianchuang case. Song Xiu countered that the case was a joint effort, only for Sun Zhewei to dismiss his contribution, calling it "cooperation" instead.

Song Xiu then revealed that Director Huang had promised him a senior partner position at Chengtai if the case succeeded, a deal he took because Director Huang was disappointed in Sun Zhewei for not having accomplished anything since joining the firm. Enraged, Sun Zhewei stormed off. Song Xiu's persistent efforts finally moved Hong Li, Sun Jian’s mother. As she walked home, Song Xiu offered to help with her groceries.

Hong Li reminisced about Sun Jian, who used to meet her at the gate and carry her bags, lamenting that he was gone because he hadn't lived a simple life like Song Xiu. Inviting Song Xiu inside, she shared her grief in Sun Jian's room, which remained untouched. She explained that Sun Jian had always been self-reliant and only wanted his parents to live a better life, which led him to invest in Lianchuang.

She handed Song Xiu the financial contract, imploring him to help her son get justice against the powerful corporation. Hong Li also mentioned that Xu Jie had visited and she could see Xu Jie genuinely wanted to help, not just escape blame, and that she now understood why Sun Jian was so desperate to earn money.

Song Xiu assured her that Sun Jian would want his parents to live a life free from debt and that she would make the choice that allows her son to rest in peace. Meanwhile, Chen Ran’s divorce and custody trial proceeded. Jian Peiran's lawyer, Fang Pu, aggressively questioned Chen Ran about bringing Chen Ke, a "stranger," into the family home without Jian Peiran's consent.

Chen Ran objected, clarifying Chen Ke was her half-brother and that inviting him to their father's memorial was natural. Fang Pu then questioned her loyalty, suggesting a suspiciously close relationship with Tian Mao. Chen Ran explained Tian Mao was her father's apprentice and their discussions were about her father's case.

When Fang Pu cited Yangyang's mention of an "intimate farewell," Chen Ran challenged him to produce evidence and warned against defamation before presenting a video of her own: Jian Peiran intimately embracing Cao Hui, revealing his infidelity. After the court session, Jian Peiran confronted Fang Pu, unhappy with the aggressive tactics. Fang Pu argued that divorce cases are battlegrounds where one must fight ruthlessly for custody.

He also noted that his tactics had provoked Chen Ran into revealing the video of the affair, something she might not have done otherwise. When Yangyang was called to testify, Fang Pu questioned her about Chen Ran's busy schedule. Yangyang admitted her mother was busy but had also offered to change jobs for her, adding that she was proud of her mother's work. Fang Pu then asked if Yangyang had complained to her father about Tian Mao.

She confirmed she had, but only because her mother always seemed unhappy after meeting with him about her grandfather's case. Fang Pu then tried to insinuate that Chen Wenguang’s criminal record could affect Yangyang's future, a question Chen Ran immediately objected to. Given a chance to speak, Chen Ran asked Yangyang to list her flaws.

Yangyang mentioned several complaints, like not being allowed to play games, but concluded tearfully that what she truly loved was simply being able to call out "Mom" every morning and hear her reply. Yangyang then told the court she loved both her parents and wanted them to be happy, even if they were separated. In her closing statement, Chen Ran acknowledged her imperfections as a mother but emphasized her unwavering love for Yangyang.

The judge granted the divorce, awarding custody to Chen Ran, citing Yangyang’s age, her stated preference, the mother's stable income, and the particular needs of a girl in adolescence. Jian Peiran was ordered to pay 5,000 yuan in child support monthly until Yangyang turns eighteen. Outside the courtroom, Chen Ke comforted a tearful Yangyang, telling her his own parents’ marriage was even more complicated.

He playfully teased her about her resilience, and she responded with light sarcasm about her new status as a child of divorce. Pleased to see her spirit, Chen Ke acknowledged that growing up overnight isn't easy, recognizing her strength. Chen Ran then met with Xu Jie, who was struggling with the hostility from Sun Jian's parents and felt conflicted about putting Song Xiu in a difficult position.

Chen Ran observed that Xu Jie had grown, now considering others' feelings instead of only focusing on results. After sharing the good news that her divorce was final and she had custody, Chen Ran dropped a bombshell: she was pregnant again and planned to raise the child alone. Overjoyed, Xu Jie jokingly offered to play the "father" role for school meetings.

Playfully touching Chen Ran's belly, she suggested the possibility of twins, to which Chen Ran sighed that they would need two cribs. Later, at Mingtang, Li Gongming brought up the merger with Qingmu Law Firm again. The partners advised waiting until the Lianchuang case was resolved, as it had severely damaged Mingtang's reputation. Li Gongming then revealed he has a brain tumor.

Chen Ran was deeply saddened, seeing him as family, but he reassured them he had come to terms with it. He gave Chen Ran a letter from her father, written before his death, stating his wish for her to take over his senior partner position. Chen Ran refused, insisting she wanted to earn the position on her own merits and assuring Li Gongming she was ready to take responsibility for Mingtang's future.

Huang Yaoqing was informed by Sun Zhewei that most Lianchuang victims had signed a settlement, but Hong Li remained unyielding. Huang Yaoqing stressed that Sun Jian's case was paramount and ordered Sun Zhewei to secure a win. Reflecting on Li Gongming's illness, Huang Yaoqing grew introspective about health and ordered company-wide checkups for all Chengtai employees. Xu Jie and Chen Ran continued their difficult search for Lianchuang victims.

Many, including affluent professionals and those too proud to speak out after losing everything, were unwilling to testify. They decided to approach Li Dongkai, a victim who organized others online. Chen Ke warned Chen Ran that Li Dongkai held a grudge against their father and would be hostile. As predicted, when Chen Ran explained that Chengtai's settlement offer was a tactic to shift blame onto her deceased father, Li Dongkai dismissed her. He preferred the tangible compensation, sarcastically remarking that at least Lianchuang was paying, unlike some who just "escape" through death.
