> Resúmenes de Lady of Law
At Chen Wenguang's funeral, Director Huang and Li Gongming from competing law firms engaged in a subtle business discussion. Qian Qiuqing, Chen Wenguang's ex-wife, stood by his portrait, expressing profound regret for not having seen him one last time. Chen Ran tried to console her mother, suggesting Chen Wenguang likely shared that regret.
Qian Qiuqing was visibly upset to see Chen Ke, Chen Wenguang's son from another relationship, assisting at the funeral, claiming she had instructed Zhang Qinglan, Chen Ke's mother, not to bring him. Chen Ran defended Chen Ke, explaining he only wished to bid his father farewell and that he too was Chen Wenguang's son. Qian Qiuqing felt her dignity was compromised, seeing herself as the outsider in their eyes and unable to achieve Chen Ran's level of magnanimity.
Meanwhile, Yangyang, Chen Ran's child, recognized Chen Ke as her uncle, openly stating that her grandmother had informed her of Chen Wenguang's other family but that she held no ill will toward him, believing her own mother had more reason for resentment. Qian Qiuqing later briefly spoke to Chen Ke, asking when he arrived in Jinghai and if his mother was coming. He confirmed Zhang Qinglan would not be there, prompting Qian Qiuqing to lament the "mess."
Outside, Song Xiu approached Xu Jie, noting Chen Ran's distressed appearance and reflecting on life's sudden turns. He mentioned having done a lot of thinking and suggested they talk. Their conversation was cut short when Xu Jie noticed Zhang Qinglan entering the venue. Despite Qian Qiuqing's prior objection, Zhang Qinglan entered, asserting it was her final opportunity to see Chen Wenguang.
As Chen Ke tried to usher her away, Zhang Qinglan bolstered him, stating they had every right to be there, as he and Chen Ran were both Chen Wenguang's children. Zhang Qinglan then publicly announced her intention to take Chen Wenguang's ashes back to Switzerland, astonishing everyone present. The dramatic events at the funeral quickly became a topic of intense gossip at Mingtang Law Firm, covering Chen Wenguang's hidden family, overseas son, and the contentious dispute over his ashes.
Xu Jie promptly silenced her assistants. While her colleague expressed concern for Chen Ran, Xu Jie affirmed Chen Ran's capability to handle the situation. Chen Ran later confronted Qian Qiuqing, who was furious, accusing Zhang Qinglan of stripping away Chen Wenguang’s last vestiges of dignity in public. Qian Qiuqing insisted Chen Wenguang's ashes must remain in Jinghai, for Chen Ran’s sake.
She shared that while she had considered letting go previously, Zhang Qinglan's public scene had hardened her resolve to fight for an outcome for Chen Ran. Chen Ran felt they had all prioritized their own feelings, neglecting to consider her father's true wishes. When Chen Ran spoke with Chen Ke, he expressed gratitude for being allowed at the funeral but firmly asserted his and his mother’s right to be there, refusing to compromise on his father's final resting place.
He declared that if no agreement was reached, he would take the matter to court. Attorney Jiang later visited Chen Ran to discuss Zhang Qinglan's case. Chen Ran admitted her emotional struggle to accept Zhang Qinglan, but acknowledged the complexity of the situation from her father’s perspective. Attorney Jiang then informed Chen Ran about Chen Wenguang’s will, drafted in Switzerland, which explicitly stated his wish to be buried with Zhang Qinglan.
This revelation led Chen Ran to agree to discuss an out-of-court settlement with her mother. However, Qian Qiuqing was enraged upon learning that Zhang Qinglan's legal counsel had approached Chen Ran about the will. She warned Chen Ran against involvement, dismissing the will as merely Chen Wenguang indulging his own desires. Qian Qiuqing reiterated her refusal to compromise, stating she would pursue legal action regardless.
Chen Ran urged her mother not to remain trapped by decades of resentment and revealed she had arranged a meeting with Zhang Qinglan. Earlier, Zhang Qinglan had sought Xu Jie's representation, clarifying she only desired the ashes for a joint burial with Chen Wenguang, not any inheritance. Xu Jie and Attorney Jiang advised her that the will required notarization to be legally recognized and suggested pursuing reconciliation with Qian Qiuqing first.
Xu Jie also met with Chen Ke, who expressed deep remorse for not having realized the severity of his father's illness and not spending enough time with him, feeling trapped by the conflict over the burial. Xu Jie spoke candidly, telling Chen Ke that while respecting the deceased, Chen Wenguang was ultimately at fault for his selfishness and the pain he caused.
She reminded Chen Ke that the will lacked legal validity without notarization and urged him, as a lawyer, to make his own choices rather than being bound by past grievances. At the arranged meeting between Qian Qiuqing and Zhang Qinglan, Zhang Qinglan reiterated her belief in her love for Chen Wenguang and her willingness to endure personal grievances, but emphasized that she didn't want her son, Chen Ke, to suffer.
During the meeting, Zhang Qinglan also presented Qian Qiuqing with a ring Chen Wenguang had always worn but forgotten in Switzerland, stating she had kept it for him and was now returning it to its rightful owner. Hearing Zhang Qinglan speak of her son, Qian Qiuqing, as a mother, acknowledged their shared shortcomings towards their children and noted that Chen Wenguang had never truly chosen between his two families, always prioritizing himself.
She then made a surprising concession, stating that she would consider compromising on the matter of his ashes. With this new development, Xu Jie presented the drafted settlement agreement, expressing hope for a fresh start for both families. However, just as the agreement was about to be signed, Xu Jie received an urgent phone call, informing her that Qian Qiuqing had taken Chen Wenguang's ashes to the seaside.
Chen Ran, Chen Ke, Xu Jie, and Zhang Qinglan rushed to the beach. Despite their desperate pleas, Qian Qiuqing declared that while she had agreed to reconcile, the "method" of reconciliation would be hers. She proclaimed that Chen Wenguang had been nothing but "empty promises" to both women and belonged to neither of them. Zhang Qinglan desperately begged for the ashes, accusing Qian Qiuqing of monopolizing him even in death.
Qian Qiuqing, however, dismissed her, stating that Zhang Qinglan was still young with an unknown future. She explained that she had brought them all there for the children to bid their father farewell respectfully. Qian Qiuqing then reflected on life, asserting that happiness is paramount for a woman, and that she had spent her life learning to make peace with her misfortunes.
With that, she addressed Chen Wenguang, saying they had all come to see him off, and then scattered his ashes into the vast ocean, symbolizing a release for everyone. She also cast her own wedding ring into the sea, completely severing her ties. Witnessing this, Chen Ran later told Chen Ke that while she didn't anticipate her mother's method, she understood that Qian Qiuqing, having endured years of suffering, was not wrong.
She shared that her mother genuinely loved their father, finding solace in old photos and videos. Chen Ran reflected on their father’s complex life, noting his eventual regrets in both love and career, and expressed her belief that he wouldn't want them to be entangled in further resentment. She reaffirmed her promise to their father to take care of Chen Ke, hoping for the opportunity to do so.
As Zhang Qinglan prepared to depart, Chen Ran presented her with a necklace pendant, explaining that Qian Qiuqing had prepared it and that it contained some of Chen Wenguang's ashes. Zhang Qinglan was grateful for this precious gift. Qian Qiuqing, present at the farewell, then asked Chen Ran to look after Chen Ke, as he intended to stay in Jinghai for a while longer and they had no other relatives there.
Zhang Qinglan affectionately advised Chen Ke to be safe and to keep his mother updated, and told Chen Ran not to grieve alone. After Zhang Qinglan left for Switzerland, Chen Ke, having decided to remain in China for the increasing opportunities, was encouraged by Chen Ran. She offered to recommend him to Mingtang Law Firm, which was currently in need of staff, and Chen Ke readily accepted this new beginning.
