At a family dinner hosted by his paternal aunt-in-law, Mu Xiangxiang's academic achievements became a topic of discussion. Her aunt-in-law proudly announced that her son, Mu Song, had scored 701 points on his final exams, landing first place in a top-tier high school in Beijing. She then turned to Mu Xiangxiang, who revealed her score of 610.
The aunt-in-law chastised Mu Xiangxiang, urging her to develop an "older sister surpassing younger brother spirit" and close the persistent hundred-point gap, claiming the disparity made them "seem like we're showing off." Mu Xiangxiang's paternal uncle, feeling uncomfortable with his wife's lengthy lecture, intervened to encourage everyone to eat, also mentioning that Mu Xiangxiang's score of over 600 was already good. Later, while Mu Defeng went to get more wine, his elder brother approached him to apologize.
He admitted that the price they paid for Mu Xiangxiang’s family home was indeed low, but at the time, he lacked funds. He explained that his wife had grown up poor and was "scared of being poor," which made her "always calculating." He assured Mu Defeng that his wife "means well" and wasn't truly greedy.
Mu Defeng, however, dismissed the apology, stating that their decision to buy the house at that time had "saved Xiangxiang's life," and he was "nothing but grateful." He told his brother there was no need for such formality between them. That evening, Mu Song secretly placed a violin in Mu Xiangxiang's room. He warned her not to tell their parents, threatening to raise her rent if she did. Mu Xiangxiang was surprised by the hidden instrument.
Meanwhile, Qiao Nan gathered with Guo Zhi and Yan Zhiyang to strategize for the upcoming taekwondo competition. Qiao Nan encouraged the team to aim for the championship in the summer league, acknowledging that other schools had many black-belt experts, while their school only had him. Mu Xiangxiang suggested they research opponents' weaknesses and devise counter-tactics, inspired by martial arts novels. Qiao Nan agreed, emphasizing the principle of "know yourself and know your enemy, win every battle."
They analyzed opponent videos, discussing Jiang Yi from Nan City No.7 High School, nicknamed "Shadow Kick," who possessed great power and speed but lacked endurance. Their plan was to defend early and then strike when he was exhausted. They also examined Wang Feng, Nan City No.7 High's top fighter, who was evenly matched with Qiao Nan.
Mu Xiangxiang asked if Qiao Nan was confident, to which he replied, "As long as you believe in me and my team, we can definitely win," and Mu Xiangxiang affirmed her trust. They also reviewed Zou Guangming, the previous year's champion, known for his "720 Tornado Kick" and stable footwork. As they wrapped up, Qiao Nan and Mu Xiangxiang realized Guo Zhi and Yan Zhiyang had quietly left.
Guo Zhi and Yan Zhiyang, watching the pair, felt like a third wheel and departed. Mu Xiangxiang worried it looked like she and Qiao Nan were "secretly dating," reminding Qiao Nan of the "small theater incident" that caused misunderstandings before. To avoid another situation, they decided to leave quickly, but unexpectedly ran into Qiao Rui. Qiao Rui immediately confronted them, accusing Qiao Nan of being "back to your old ways" and engaging in "puppy love" with Mu Xiangxiang.
Qiao Nan insisted they were discussing taekwondo strategies with classmates. Qiao Rui, however, pointed out Mu Xiangxiang’s "severe asthma" and her inability to do strenuous work, questioning how she could participate in taekwondo strategy. Mu Xiangxiang tried to explain their "unspoken difficulty" for working together, which only fueled Qiao Rui’s suspicions, making him believe they were just using it as an excuse for puppy love. Frustrated, Qiao Nan grabbed Mu Xiangxiang and left.
Mu Xiangxiang, later feeling sympathetic, told Qiao Nan that his brother "just cares about you" and "doesn't know about our body-swapping situation," adding that from his perspective, it was understandable. Qiao Nan, however, dismissed Qiao Rui as a "busybody" and declared he wouldn't compete. Qiao Rui then sought advice from Jiajun, who encouraged him to be firm with Qiao Nan.
Jiajun assured Qiao Rui that his actions were normal for an elder brother, citing Qiao Nan's late maturity, his father's busy schedule, and their mother's early passing, which made it crucial for Qiao Rui to intervene lest Qiao Nan go astray. He advised Qiao Rui to "nip it in the bud" and not be too gentle, believing Qiao Nan would understand his "good intentions" later, even if he hated him now.
Emboldened, Qiao Rui confronted Qiao Nan, accusing him of being "fearless" about his "puppy love" with Mu Xiangxiang and not caring if others knew. When Qiao Nan vehemently denied it and stated he wasn’t afraid of Qiao Rui telling his father or homeroom teacher, Qiao Rui shifted his tactics. He threatened to expose their "relationship" to Mu Xiangxiang's parents and teacher, questioning if she could "handle all those rumors."
Qiao Nan, furious and protective, demanded Qiao Rui take his anger out on him, not Mu Xiangxiang, saying such behavior was unmanly. Qiao Rui insisted he only wanted to prevent "puppy love" and warned Qiao Nan to stop pushing him "to go this far" if he truly cared about Mu Xiangxiang's feelings. Qiao Nan then scornfully remarked that Mu Xiangxiang had "underestimated" Qiao Rui, before demanding to know what Qiao Rui truly wanted.
Qiao Rui laid down his terms: Qiao Nan was forbidden from meeting Mu Xiangxiang during the holiday. Qiao Rui would take "complete control" of Qiao Nan's daily routine, meals, and competition preparations. He also introduced Coach Jin, a coach with extensive experience whom he had invited overnight from Beijing, who would supervise Qiao Nan's training.
Qiao Nan dismissed the need for a coach, stating he had already formulated his own complete strategy for the team, but Qiao Rui insisted the matter was settled, emphasizing Coach Jin's track record of training world champions. The next morning, Qiao Nan tried to leave early at 6 AM, hoping to evade Qiao Rui, but Qiao Rui was waiting for him. Qiao Nan claimed he was going to meet Guo Zhi and Yan Zhiyang for training.
To Qiao Nan's astonishment, Qiao Rui had already brought Guo Zhi and Yan Zhiyang to their home. Guo Zhi excitedly informed Qiao Nan that he had already notified the entire team, who were on their way, further infuriating Qiao Nan. Guo Zhi also mentioned wanting to "bask in some of that glory" and get a ride in Qiao Rui's luxury car. Inside, Qiao Nan felt trapped under "house arrest" for the entire summer.
Guo Zhi and Yan Zhiyang, observing Qiao Nan's distress, suggested he could video call Mu Xiangxiang or they could create a diversion so he could secretly meet her, as Qiao Rui couldn’t possibly monitor him constantly. Qiao Nan found the idea promising. Mu Xiangxiang, meanwhile, felt isolated, missing Qiao Nan's presence for training and wondering how she could practice by herself.
Daily, Mu Song made her sneak out the violin for his lessons, warning her not to reveal his secret to their parents. During one of Qiao Nan's training sessions, Guo Zhi distracted Qiao Rui, allowing Qiao Nan, wearing his taekwondo uniform, to secretly meet Mu Xiangxiang, who expressed concern about the impending competition. Qiao Nan lamented Qiao Rui's controlling behavior, which prevented them from training together and restricted his movements.
Mu Xiangxiang expressed her worries about body swapping during the competition if they weren't prepared and if she didn't know the tactics. They agreed to have another teammate like He Pengcheng help teach Mu Xiangxiang the tactics by running back and forth. Most importantly, they vowed to "stop having the same dream" to prevent any further body swaps, before quickly parting ways as Qiao Rui approached.
Later, Qiao Rui confiscated Qiao Nan's phone, citing rules against screen time during closed training, claiming blue light inhibits melatonin and affects sleep and training. He then revealed he had staff monitoring Qiao Nan's daily activities and knew about Qiao Nan's secret meeting with Mu Xiangxiang earlier. Qiao Nan furiously accused Qiao Rui of being a "peeping tom" and lacking trust, saying he was not a three-year-old child and knew what he was doing.
Qiao Rui retorted that Qiao Nan was "mentally controlled" by Mu Xiangxiang, listing instances such as Qiao Nan's unusual request for Mu Xiangxiang to intern at their hotel and his refusal to let her do hard labor, and his quick sale of his beloved motorcycle to help her family when they encountered difficulties. Qiao Rui even speculated that Mu Xiangxiang was after Qiao Nan's "family background," given her family situation.
Qiao Nan, enraged, shouted that it was Qiao Rui who was the "control freak," driven by jealousy and a desire to manipulate him by controlling his schedule, restricting his contact with the outside world, and monitoring him. He declared that his trust in Qiao Rui had vanished the day Qiao Rui decided to study abroad and left him alone, asserting that Qiao Rui's supposed brotherly affection was merely "psychological comfort" to satisfy his "need for control."
The harsh exchange deeply wounded Qiao Rui. At dinner that night, when Qiao Yuanshan asked about Qiao Nan's training with Coach Jin, Qiao Rui quietly stated that he would no longer interfere in Qiao Nan's affairs. Qiao Yuanshan, though surprised, supported Qiao Nan's decision to return to school and train with his teammates, acknowledging that "many hands make light work." Rejoining his team, Qiao Nan addressed them, acknowledging the recent disruptions but affirming that everything was "back on track."
He outlined the modified competition rules, allowing three players per school, best of three games, with each game lasting two minutes. He named himself, Qian Hanchen, and He Pengcheng as the main players, with Zhao Gang as a substitute and Guo Zhi, Yan Zhiyang, Chen Yanyan, Wu Fei, and Wang Zhiqiang as sparring partners, before initiating group training. The 11th Inter-High School Taekwondo Championship began. Yingcheng High School's team, led by Qiao Nan, quickly advanced through the ranks.
In a crucial match, Qian Hanchen demonstrated exceptional skill, securing victory with a "360-degree spinning back kick" and propelling Yingcheng High into the semifinals. After two weeks of intense competition, Yingcheng High, with Qiao Nan, Qian Hanchen, and He Pengcheng, successfully reached the finals, where they were set to face Nan City No.7 High School, comprised of Zou Guangming, Wang Feng, and Jiang Yi.
