On her first day of work, Duan Jiabao packed an excessive amount of items, including her cherished collection of celebrity autographs and a selfie stick, prompting Jiang Xiaoguo to jokingly ask if she planned to live at the company. Jiang Xiaoguo also advised her that bringing slippers on the first day was too soon, suggesting she should wait at least three months.

Meanwhile, Luo Yan and Lu Ran were in a study room, but spent their time playing games until other students complained about the noise. They then decided to finally focus on their graduate studies, realizing they had only three months to prepare for four subjects. They then went to purchase their study materials, discussing the high cost of the books.

At the Puling Capital intern orientation, Investment Director Yang Xiaorong introduced the company, its various departments, and the two founding and managing partners, President Su Hang and President Zhou Xun. During self-introductions, interns from prestigious universities like the University of Hong Kong, Peking University, Tsinghua University, UCLA, and the National University of Singapore, showcased their impressive credentials. Jiang Xiaoguo, however, introduced herself simply as being from the Northeast.

Yang Xiaorong then announced a project: interns would be divided into groups to create a business proposal for "Coral English," with the chance of being personally mentored by President Zhou Xun if they performed well. Jiang Xiaoguo initially drew Group B, but a male colleague, Li Tianyang from Peking University, requested to switch with her.

He confided that he felt inferior to the other two Peking University graduates in his Group C, claiming they would "look down on him" because he received his undergraduate degree from a less prestigious university. Jiang Xiaoguo agreed to swap, moving to Group C. Duan Jiabao's first day at Meimei Entertainment proved challenging.

When asked to update the media contact list, she addressed a colleague as "Sister Sally," only for Sally to reprimand her, asking if she looked that old and telling her not to use the term "sister." Later, when asking another colleague, Lisa, for a form, Duan Jiabao, remembering Sally's reaction, omitted the honorific. Lisa, who had been with the company for two years, then scolded her for being impolite, stating that not calling her "sister" was disrespectful.

Feeling caught between conflicting expectations, Duan Jiabao concluded that the workplace was incredibly difficult. Over dinner, Duan Jiabao recounted her office woes to Jiang Xiaoguo. Jiang Xiaoguo offered elaborate advice on when to call someone "sister" based on their lipstick color and application style: crimson or "auntie" shades meant "sister," while pink or bean paste shades did not; thick application meant "sister," thin did not; and no lipstick meant "brother."

Finding this too complicated, Duan Jiabao received simpler advice: win over the "big boss," and other colleagues would at least be civil. Jiang Xiaoguo also suggested using five specific Chinese suffixes—"Ah," "Ne," "Ha," "Sa," and "Yo"—at the end of sentences to sound more amiable and polite in the workplace. Duan Jiabao attempted to implement this advice, but it backfired when she accidentally sent a private complaint about her idol's notebook being stained by her boss to the company group chat.

To smooth things over, she ordered Starbucks for everyone. Her colleagues, initially delighted, assumed the drinks were from President Qian. However, when President Qian's own order of seven soy milk drinks for twenty people arrived, everyone abandoned Duan Jiabao's Starbucks for the soy milk, leaving her to drink three Frappuccinos herself. Meanwhile, Liang Shuang faced difficulties at her internship. Her supervisor, Zhang Pangpang, harshly criticized her report, implying Liang Shuang was uneducated or stupid.

A colleague suggested that Zhang Pangpang was targeting Liang Shuang because of her beauty, advising her to become a beauty blogger and mentioning a relevant competition. Liang Shuang was intrigued and decided to try. Her initial attempt at filming a "makeup that makes you look younger" video proved difficult, as she struggled to find a quiet place to record and her simple tutorial received many negative comments, landing her video on a "disliking list."

Determined to improve, she resolved to research how other beauty bloggers created their content. Later, Zhang Pangpang tried to stop Liang Shuang from leaving work at the official quitting time, stating that the director hadn't left yet and an intern shouldn't leave early. Liang Shuang argued that tasks completed during work hours shouldn't require overtime. Just then, the director emerged from a meeting with client Mr. Li and asked Liang Shuang to escort Mr. Li downstairs.

The director also subtly told Zhang Pangpang not to be too demanding of the new interns, implying that Liang Shuang’s good looks afforded her some leniency, much to Zhang Pangpang's annoyance. On the bus ride home, Luo Yan experienced an incident: an older man groped her. She pushed him away, but he denied it and yelled at her. Coincidentally, Liang Shuang, who was also on the bus filming a video for her vlogging research, captured the incident on camera.

Liang Shuang immediately intervened, showing the video as evidence and urging Luo Yan to call the police. Despite Luo Yan's embarrassment and reluctance, Liang Shuang insisted. The police quickly arrived and arrested the man, who was revealed to be a repeat offender who had only been released from a 24-hour detention a few days prior.

Luo Yan, grateful, later brought Liang Shuang to the "Same Place" restaurant to meet Jiang Xiaoguo and Duan Jiabao, though she nervously lied about Liang Shuang simply lending her bus fare to avoid explaining the real reason for their newfound closeness. In the Group C project, Jiang Xiaoguo, Li Li, and Zhao Tingnan began working on the "Coral English" proposal.

Li Li and Zhao Tingnan, both from prestigious universities and claiming relevant experience, immediately clashed over who should lead the presentation. To gain control and resolve the stalemate, Jiang Xiaoguo fabricated a connection to President Zhou Xun, mentioning his preferred coffee (Americano) and cake (cheesecake) and claiming they had known each other before the interview, which helped her secure the internship. This bluff worked, impressing the two high-achievers, and Jiang Xiaoguo was elected group leader.

Unbeknownst to them, Amanda from Group B overheard their conversation. During the project presentation, C group discovered that the first three points of their plan were identical to Group B's. With only seven minutes left until their presentation, Jiang Xiaoguo quickly revised their proposal, deleting the common points and highlighting their unique final point: focusing on specific emerging user groups, particularly those born in the 1990s, and proposing an offline meeting model for language learning.

After the presentations, Amanda approached President Zhou, informing him of Jiang Xiaoguo's claims of a personal relationship, which she used to become group leader. President Zhou denied any such relationship, stating that "ability, not relationship," was valued in the company. When C group was announced as the winner, Amanda confronted President Zhou again, questioning the fairness given Jiang Xiaoguo's fabricated connection.

President Zhou explained that he chose C group because their proposal "hit the pain point" by suggesting an offline meeting model and focusing on specific demographics, aligning perfectly with current market trends. He emphasized that punishing Jiang Xiaoguo with a low score solely for fabricating a connection would be truly unfair. Later that evening, back at the dorm, Jiang Xiaoguo and Duan Jiabao learned from their neighbors that Liang Shuang had posted the bus incident video online.

Luo Yan, while not ashamed of what happened, was upset about becoming "internet gossip" and asked Liang Shuang to delete the video, but Liang Shuang refused. Meanwhile, while playing games, President Su Hang and President Zhou Xun discussed the interns. Both were impressed with Jiang Xiaoguo, and Su Hang suggested placing her in Zhou Xun's investment team. However, Zhou Xun disliked Jiang Xiaoguo's "smart aleck" tendencies, believing she would only cause trouble for his team.

The next day, Jiang Xiaoguo was assigned to Yang Xiaorong’s group. A colleague informed her that Yang Xiaorong was considered the least capable in the department and hadn't led any significant projects in years. Jiang Xiaoguo's primary task was to sift through countless business proposals, akin to finding a "needle in a haystack," to identify potential investment projects, while other interns were actively pursuing and securing projects. Simultaneously, Duan Jiabao was assigned to a business trip to Kunming to assist an artist.
