Tang Lici spoke gravely to Shen Langhun and Chi Yun, confirming his plan to sacrifice his own life to revive Fang Zhou. Shen Langhun had already suspected this. Chi Yun was heartbroken and strongly opposed it, asserting that Tang Lici was his charge and had no right to die. Tang Lici countered that it was his choice, but Chi Yun pressed, asking if their friendship meant nothing compared to Fang Zhou.

Tang Lici affirmed their friendship but insisted Fang Zhou was different, simply "because he's Fang Zhou." Confirming Shen Langhun's suspicion, Tang Lici remarked on the terrifying accuracy of an assassin's intuition. Shen Langhun, who considered Tang Lici his best friend, asked if such a sacrifice was truly worth it, but Tang Lici dismissed the question. Shen Langhun then urged Tang Lici to at least give his friends a chance to help.

Chi Yun, still frustrated, called Tang Lici a terrible liar and declared they would go with him. Meanwhile, Liu Yan sought out Zhong Chunji, mockingly asking if she enjoyed her royal title. He implied that if she resisted, she might not remain Princess Langya, congratulating her for making his task easier by being outside the palace. Zhong Chunji demanded to know his intentions.

Liu Yan mentioned his "gift" to her, the butterfly tattoo, revealing his knowledge that her identity as Princess Langya was fabricated and the tattoo was a replica. He pointed out that while her details aligned with the princess, a single discrepancy could expose her for "deceiving the throne" and "colluding with the Guild." Zhong Chunji defiantly stated she had anticipated this day and refused to be threatened into harming Tang Lici.

Liu Yan clarified he was there to "help her win him over," praising Tang Lici's wealth, intelligence, charisma, and martial prowess, reminding her of his heroic rescue at Jade Peony Tower. He then presented her with the Thousand Gu Pins, a gu insect he had refined within himself for three years, explaining that implanting it into Tang Lici would cripple his martial arts, reducing him to a powerless man.

Liu Yan advised her to seize what she desired, reiterating, "You can have Tang Lici, even if he doesn't love you, just like you can become the Princess, even though you're not." After contemplating Liu Yan's words, Zhong Chunji threw the pin into a nearby pond, declaring he couldn't manipulate her. Liu Yan warned her she had just "thrown away her own happiness" before departing.

Shortly after, Zhong Chunji was summoned to the front lines as the battle at Quicksand River had intensified. Tang Lici, Chi Yun, and Shen Langhun journeyed to Bodhi Valley, deep in the Qinling Mountains, where Tang Lici had sent a message detailing their plan to Mr. Jiang. He explained that the Yique Yinyang had built a massive underground labyrinth there, leading to three Pillars of Heaven. They would each take a different path, regrouping to support anyone who hadn't returned.

He entrusted Mr. Jiang with holding Quicksand River until General Yuchi’s reinforcements arrived, emphasizing that Fang Zhou, a pillar of the martial world, must not have his body defiled. Mr. Jiang affirmed his commitment. As Tang Lici climbed one of the enormous Pillars of Heaven, he found his Red Silk artifact to be useless, confirming his suspicions about the strange nature of the place. He was resolute in his climb, determined that no one would stop him.

Meanwhile, Shen Langhun and Chi Yun, having climbed their own respective pillars, found them empty. Realizing Fang Zhou's body must be on Tang Lici's pillar, they hastened to join him. At the Pillar's summit, Tang Lici found Fang Zhou's body. As he reached out, he was confronted by Tuolong, who addressed him as "Agibanel Tonga," the holy child.

Tuolong reminded Tang Lici of his past: imprisoned in a tower since birth, lied to, and forged into a Celestial Being, destined to be a sacrifice for Bai Nanzhu's immortality. Tuolong asserted that fleeing to the Central Plains couldn't change his fate and that Fang Zhou was dead. Tang Lici defiantly rejected his predetermined destiny, insisting Fang Zhou was alive and only he could save him, vowing to kill anyone who stood in his way.

The dragons then activated the Nine Heavens Blaze Array, aiming to melt Fang Zhou's ice coffin. Tang Lici desperately shielded the coffin with his body. Despite his valiant efforts, he was overwhelmed and severely injured. The coffin shattered, leaving Fang Zhou's body exposed. Bleeding, Tang Lici tried to piece together the fragments of the crystal coffin, but to his horror, Fang Zhou's body began to disintegrate into countless particles of light, vanishing completely. Tang Lici's spirit broke.

He cried out Fang Zhou's name repeatedly, his pleas turning into agonized "No"s. He lamented the four years of daily pain he had endured nurturing the heart crystal. He recalled Fang Zhou's words about people changing their own fate, accused him of lying, and desperately begged him not to leave. His despair drove him to madness. Zhong Chunji arrived, witnessing Tang Lici's desperate wails.

Moved to tears, Liu Yan's earlier words echoed in her mind: if Tang Lici were crippled, he could not leave her, and she could care for him until he loved her. Recalling the Thousand Gu Pins she had discarded, she retrieved it from the pond. Believing she was ending his suffering and keeping him with her, she plunged the needle into Tang Lici’s body. Tang Lici bled from his mouth and, looking at Zhong Chunji, lost consciousness.

Moments later, Shen Langhun and Chi Yun arrived to find Tang Lici collapsed. Zhong Chunji was disoriented, claiming no memory of her actions, only that her body moved on its own, suspecting a "gu insect." Shen Langhun and Chi Yun swiftly took the critically wounded Tang Lici back to the Central Plains Sword Association for Shui Duopo's help. Back at the Central Plains Sword Association, the battle at Quicksand River was intense, with Mr. Jiang's forces struggling against the Guild.

The Sword Association members, rallied by their leaders, vowed to fight to the death. Shao Yanping, the Sword Master, expressed pride in their unity and activated the Mountain-Guarding Array. Liu Yan, unfazed, learned that Zhong Chunji's actions had aided his plan. He ordered his forces to conserve ammunition, hold the pass, and await his command, declaring his intent to personally kill Tang Lici. Liu Yan then breached the array and entered the Sword Association grounds.

He scorned the white funeral banners, calling them filthy due to Tang Lici's presence. Shao Yanping, trying to buy time, falsely claimed Tang Lici had not returned. Liu Yan, however, knew his army was near and demanded Tang Lici, offering to spare their lives. Shao Yanping defiantly refused, stating that upholding "chivalry"—helping the righteous, vanquishing evil, and standing upright—was worth more than a hundred thousand lives.

Liu Yan, sneering at them as "fools deceived by Tang Lici," unleashed his powerful attack, "The Sea of Karma Shatters, Raging Thunder!" and ordered a full assault. During the battle, Shao Yanping learned that Liu Yan was pursuing a painted boat, a diversion that would hopefully buy them enough time for reinforcements to arrive the next day. Meanwhile, Shui Duopo examined the unconscious Tang Lici. She found the poison strange and beyond her immediate cure.

She also noted that Fang Zhou's heart crystal was actively draining Tang Lici's life force. While removing the crystal would offer respite, it required Tang Lici's conscious cooperation to channel the toxins—cooperation she knew he would refuse. Thus, they had to wait for him to awaken. Shao Yanping was informed that Zhong Chunji had been controlled by Liu Yan. He then proposed a plan to Shen Langhun and Chi Yun, requesting their cooperation. Simultaneously, Liu Yan, having located Tang Lici, demanded he be brought before him.
