Zhuge Yue has been wandering through the various pavilions of Biantang. Acting under the secret orders of the King of Ximeng, he has meticulously studied the city’s defense maps and identified an obscure, well-guarded location that he believes hides his true objective. Zhuge Yue led the Queen of Lingyue on a nighttime mission to infiltrate this secret site. Upon entering a hidden chamber, they triggered a series of traps, resulting in a hail of arrows.
Alerted by the commotion, guards swarmed the area. The Queen of Lingyue sustained a leg injury, and to ensure her escape, Zhuge Yue drew the guards’ attention and led them away. Chu Qiao, who had been tailing Zhuge Yue from the shadows, intervened to neutralize the guards, ensuring his safety before turning to leave. Zhuge Yue stopped her, and though she asked no questions, he was visibly conflicted.
The weight of his hidden burden—a poisoning that left his life hanging in the balance—prevented him from explaining his true intentions. Sensing an unspoken distance between them, Chu Qiao left in distress. Later, back at home, Zhuge Yue performed a lighthearted shadow puppet show in the courtyard to cheer her up, playfully depicting himself being punished by Chu Qiao's sword.
That evening, as cherry blossoms fell, the two shared a drink, and Chu Qiao reflected on the lingering, inseparable bond she felt toward him. Under the moonlight, a slightly intoxicated Chu Qiao asked Li Ce if he had ever experienced the pain of unrequited love. Li Ce admitted that while he was surrounded by beautiful companions, he had always viewed them with the detached eye of an art connoisseur until he met someone who changed everything.
He then embraced Chu Qiao, and she realized that she was the one he truly cherished. Zhuge Yue subsequently approached Li Ce to negotiate. He revealed that his presence in Biantang was to track down a man named Zhang Qingzhao, who possessed a rare map capable of unlocking the extraction of Black Gold Mine.
Li Ce, frustrated by his own powerless status as a figurehead Crown Prince, was initially offended by the request, but Zhuge Yue promised him a share of the profits. When Li Ce mentioned that his recent confession to Chu Qiao had been rejected, Zhuge Yue reacted with amusement, finding the Prince’s indecisive nature both pathetic and entertaining. Chu Qiao meanwhile began investigating the Empress's spies within the Prince’s residence.
Her suspicions fell upon a maid named Lady Ziming, who frequently delivered messages by exchanging handkerchiefs. When confronted, Ziming spun a tragic tale of being a survivor of the former dynasty, successfully gaining Chu Qiao’s sympathy. However, as Li Ce shared his alliance with Zhuge Yue, Chu Qiao joined their mission to locate Zhang Qingzhao, while maintaining a growing unease regarding Ziming’s true loyalties.
Through a series of observations at a wonton stall and intelligence gathered by Wang Shi'er, the group eventually deduced that Clerk Zhang had moved his operations to the Manufacturing Bureau. Zhuge Yue and Li Ce finalized their plans to infiltrate the site, with Li Ce agreeing to use his status as Crown Prince to gain access, while Zhuge Yue remained in the shadows.
Before the operation, Li Ce gave Chu Qiao the deeds to numerous shops and properties, urging her to escape and secure her future should the mission turn fatal. Meanwhile, the internal power struggles of the Helian tribe escalated. The new Consort Helian asserted her dominance over the tribal leader, Helian Chuan, mocking him for his cowardice and reminding him that his position relied entirely on her influence.
As the mission to infiltrate the Manufacturing Bureau loomed, Chu Qiao discovered that the rare Hong River fish meant for the Crown Prince had been redirected to the Zhan residence, leading her to realize that Lady Ziming was in league with the Empress. The episode ends with the tension mounting: the Consort Helian demanding peace for Yanbei through her marriage, and the others preparing for a dangerous infiltration that would determine their fates.
