Ling Xi finally grasped Mowgli's true feelings, realizing the innocent boy from the forest had always harbored affection for her. Her assistants, witnessing the sudden confession, expressed their surprise, noting Ling Xi's popularity. Ling Xi's mind swam with dramatic possibilities, even picturing Mowgli proposing and various family members reacting. Ultimately, she calmly told Mowgli that while she did like him, human affection came in many forms, and for them, it was the kind shared between friends and confidantes.

Mowgli, still somewhat bewildered by the intricacies of human emotion, nodded. He questioned why she wasn't happy if she genuinely liked him, recalling her past kindnesses such as providing him shelter, cooking for him, and comforting him. However, he also mentioned a book that described "liking" as being faithful until old age and that liking two people at once was "two-timing," which the book said would lead to a bad end.

Ling Xi clarified that her affection for him was akin to what she felt for Tang Cheng – a bond of friendship and companionship. Mowgli affirmed he understood, but then admitted he was still confused. Still grappling with his confusion, Mowgli sought out Lu Ziyue, lamenting the complexity of modern human society.

He contrasted it with the straightforward animal world, where affection was simply expressed by touching noses, rubbing fur, or exposing one's belly when happy, with no hidden meanings in their gaze. Lu Ziyue patiently explained that "liking" encompasses various emotions like appreciation and admiration, with its meaning depending on context, making it hard to define. While Mowgli grasped the theoretical aspect, he admitted to feeling lost when faced with real-life situations.

Lu Ziyue then asked Mowgli what he liked about Ling Xi, but Mowgli struggled to provide an answer. Lu Ziyue further suggested that Mowgli and Ling Xi's perceived affection might have been a result of external prompting and constant encouragement from others, a concept he referred to as a lie told often enough becomes truth, where such constant prompting made them believe they were truly in love, even if they weren't initially.

Mowgli acknowledged the explanation was insightful but confessed he still only "half understood and half remained confused." Lu Ziyue commiserated, admitting that while he felt like a teacher, he too struggled with such complexities; Mowgli was "influenced by others' opinions," while he himself was "trapped in my own mind." Mowgli offered to counsel him. Lu Ziyue then confided in Mowgli about a woman who occupied his thoughts.

He confessed he didn't even like her, as she was his complete opposite—her behavior was too liberal, and her flaws were "too numerous to be listed." Yet, he admired her loyalty, responsibility, courage in facing difficulties, independence, and intelligence, noting that nothing seemed to defeat her. Despite their stark differences, he found himself utterly smitten, confirming that affection is often an irrational and inexplicable force.

Following Lu Ziyue's advice, Mowgli returned home and began doing chores, including setting up individual "exclusive buckets" for "separate clothes for washing," noting that heavier clothes should be washed separately from socks. He then sincerely apologized to Ling Xi, reflecting on his previous actions and admitting that they had been "influenced by others' opinions," and that he had no right to demand her affection, respecting her freedom.

Ling Xi was touched by his newfound understanding and praised Lu Ziyue, stating she would become a fan of him. She agreed to live peacefully and equally with Mowgli. She also offered to make some changes for him, which Mowgli eagerly confirmed she was serious about. He immediately proposed new environmental rules: no more disposable chopsticks, plastic bags from the supermarket, or nondegradable disposable lunchboxes.

Ling Xi, taken aback, reminded him she agreed to "some" changes, not a complete "minimalist lifestyle." Mowgli, however, thought simplifying life was a good thing and revealed he had many more environmental rules to gradually introduce. Ling Xi playfully called him an "environmental activist" and said he deserved to be "awarded a medal" for his dedication, especially after he explained that plastic bags were responsible for the deaths of many forest animals.

Mowgli then shared stories about his life in the forest, explaining that he believed trees had emotions, flowers smiled, and grass had moods, and that he communicated with them. Ling Xi, curious, asked how a wolf would show forgiveness. Mowgli leaned in close, gently rubbing his nose against hers. Ling Xi's face flushed deep red at the gesture, while Mowgli maintained his innocent and naive demeanor.

The next day, Ling Xi went to tidy Zheng Li's office while he was away on a business trip, preparing wormwood essential oil for his humidifier to help with inflammation, allergies, and cough. She noticed a shoe box labeled "To Ling" and joyfully concluded it was a gift for her, containing a pair of beautiful high heels. Housekeeper Ms. Zhang startled Ling Xi, who was secretly arranging things in the office like an underground agent.

Ms. Zhang, who had watched Ling Xi mature from a girl to a young woman, noted how Ling Xi always ensured Zheng Li's office was perfectly suited to his needs, such as ensuring the carpet was dust-free, the AC wasn't too cold to prevent a cold, and only non-irritating wood pulp tissues were used due to his rhinitis. Ms. Zhang affirmed she remembered all these details "at her fingertips."

She asked if Ling Xi intended to keep her efforts a secret forever, even offering to tell Zheng Li, but Ling Xi insisted she had her own plans and quickly left before Zheng Li's return. Ms. Zhang, having witnessed Ling Xi's years of silent devotion to Zheng Li, silently supported her pursuit of love. Tang Cheng was summoned to Mr. Hou's office after he discovered her forged signature. She suspected trouble, noting his "smile with a dagger hidden."

When confronted with the document, Tang Cheng insisted the signature was genuine and had cost her 50 yuan to procure. Mr. Hou accused her of trying to deceive him with a "fake" document. Tang Cheng argued that lawyers must uphold integrity, and since the case was already closed and the signature had been approved by him, she boldly suggested he summon Lu Ziyue to confront her, joking that she would call Mr. Hou "dad" if Lu Ziyue actually appeared.

To her shock, Lu Ziyue walked in, and Mr. Hou told her to call him dad and proceed with the confrontation. Lu Ziyue confirmed the signature was not his, proving Tang Cheng had used a "fake." Mr. Hou declared the authenticity "as plain as daylight" and removed Tang Cheng from the case, assigning it to Lu Ziyue, while also telling Lu Ziyue to reflect on his ineffective supervision.

Enraged, Tang Cheng chased Lu Ziyue, threatening him with bodily harm and calling him "an asshole" for his ingratitude and stealing her case. Lu Ziyue sought refuge in a trash can, lamenting his scholarly dignity. Meanwhile, Ling Xi met with Bai Yiling, expressing gratitude for her help during a difficult situation with "a jerk" named Chi Xu.

Ling Xi asked Bai Yiling to covertly deliver a prank croissant, flavored with fermented bean curd, to Zheng Li, insisting that Bai Yiling claim it as her own gift. Bai Yiling initially thought it was another prank with mustard or salt, but Ling Xi excitedly revealed it was a "big move." Ling Xi then asked about Zheng Li's opinion of her and why he might have brought her a gift.

Bai Yiling admitted she was unsure but revealed Zheng Li wasn't angry and had even praised Ling Xi as "nice, kind-hearted, and simple in thought." Ling Xi was pleased, remarking that he understood her after all.

She also inquired about other happenings on the business trip, learning that Zheng Li "was taken advantage of by a woman," to which Ling Xi playfully suggested he deserved a "Group Best Sacrifice Award" but then retracted, saying such a "dishonorable honor" should be kept for Bai Yiling herself. Upon Zheng Li's return from his business trip, Ling Yu joined him in the office. Zheng Li began coughing due to the strong scent from his humidifier.

He questioned Ms. Zhang, who cleaned his office, about the essential oil inside. Ms. Zhang initially claimed ignorance but, under pressure from Zheng Li’s threat of dismissal if she couldn't explain something affecting his allergies, eventually revealed that it was Ling Xi who had been secretly arranging his office for five years. Ms. Zhang confessed that while Zheng Li saw Ling Xi as a younger sister, Ling Xi harbored deeper feelings for him. This revelation profoundly unsettled Zheng Li.

Ling Yu, noting Zheng Li's extended period of being single, joked about his "Don Quixote idealism" and high standards. Meanwhile, Ling Yu accompanied Gao Jie on a shopping trip to buy a gift for her father. After much deliberation, they chose an expensive, sporty watch. Gao Jie, however, pressed Ling Yu further, suggesting he invest in her family's commercial project, citing its future potential with two upcoming subway lines.

Ling Yu, citing the significance of the investment, stated he needed to consult his father. Gao Jie's mood immediately soured, as she accused him of prioritizing his father and Ling Xi over their shared future. She passionately urged him to seize this investment opportunity to impress her father with his courage and resolve, promising that once they married, he would have her family's unwavering support. Ling Yu, pressured by her outburst, reluctantly agreed to consider her proposal.

Realizing Ling Xi's deep-seated feelings, Zheng Li was filled with apprehension and confusion. He decided to invite her to dinner to confront the situation. Simultaneously, Mowgli, eager to prepare a special dinner for Ling Xi, went on a large grocery run. He called Lu Ziyue from the supermarket for advice on choosing the best cut of steak. Mowgli proudly informed Ziyue he had a membership card for discounts and money earned from helping Ling Xi with chores.

However, he only had 100 yuan, which limited his purchase to a single steak. During checkout, Mowgli declined disposable cutlery, proudly displaying his "eco-friendly chopsticks" made of cornstarch, explaining their biodegradable nature. He also refused a plastic bag, using his reusable one instead. Mowgli rushed home with his steak, excited to prepare the meal. However, Ling Xi had no mind to deal with him, being too preoccupied with getting ready for her date with Zheng Li.

In her room with Tang Cheng, she excitedly instructed Tang Cheng to apply a natural, yet dazzling, "pure and sparkling" makeup look. Later, Ling Xi, her heart pounding with anticipation, arrived at the restaurant where Zheng Li was waiting. Dressed in a mature style with high heels, she presented him with two concert tickets, suggesting they attend the show after dinner, recalling a previously missed movie date.

She complimented her own new style and asked for his opinion, to which he affirmed her "courage to try new things." Ling Xi then playfully asked for the gift he had bought her on his business trip, completely unaware of his confusion regarding the high heels she had found in his office earlier. She assumed he was "holding back a grander surprise."

Zheng Li, however, countered by mentioning Ms. Zhang's revelation about Ling Xi secretly cleaning his office for years, suggesting that "she" was the one "holding back a big move." Ling Xi sheepishly admitted the truth, saying she was happy doing it. After a long pause, Zheng Li gathered his courage and directly asked her the serious question: if she had a crush on him.
