Ling Xi stormed into Bai Yiling's office, angrily demanding to know why Bai Yiling accepted a pair of high heels from Zheng Li. She accused Bai Yiling of betraying their friendship and secretly gaining Zheng Li's favor. Ling Xi, with teary eyes, declared she had always treated Bai Yiling like a sister, sharing her deepest thoughts, only to find Bai Yiling had been scheming behind her back.

She yelled at Bai Yiling, calling her the "other woman" between herself and Zheng Li. Bai Yiling, already hurt by a previous experience with an "other woman" breaking up her family, was deeply offended. She insisted that her relationship with Zheng Li was purely professional and that she had a clear conscience. The argument escalated, drawing the attention of their colleagues. Zheng Li arrived, visibly angry, and told Ling Xi to stop making a scene.

Ling Xi, crying, pressed him for the truth: did he give Bai Yiling the shoes with no ulterior motives? Zheng Li hesitated before vaguely replying that at least Bai Yiling had no such intentions. Ling Xi refused to accept this, screaming hysterically. Her father and Zheng Li's father rushed in. Ling Xi's father sternly ordered her to leave the 38th floor, accusing her of making a scene and embarrassing him. Distraught, Ling Xi stormed out.

Although the immediate commotion subsided, Bai Yiling remained unsettled. She took off the problematic high heels and returned to her desk barefoot. Zheng Li, observing her distress, felt sympathetic, telling her that if she truly disliked the shoes, she should put them away. Bai Yiling, in turn, apologized to Zheng Li for the trouble, clarifying that she didn't blame him and that she didn't feel she had done anything wrong regarding him or Ling Xi.

During a high-level company meeting at Yu Fu, Ling Yu proposed a partnership with Gao's developers, suggesting they invest in a new commercial district, an idea initially suggested by Gao Jie. Ling Yu argued that traditional industries were declining and that their company needed to seek new opportunities, even if it meant venturing into new fields.

He presented detailed data on a successful trading area previously invested by Gao's, emphasizing its high returns (115% last year, 130% in the first half of this year) and near-zero operational risks, with only uncontrollable policy risks. Ling Yu was confident that by aligning with the Gao family, they could avoid risks and secure profits without significant capital investment. However, Ling Xi's father opposed the idea, arguing that any company transformation should remain within their existing industry.

He believed that venturing into an entirely new field would be too risky and would waste their current human resources. Zheng Li’s father, however, seemed open to the idea, but suggested taking a long-term view due to the large investment. Zheng Li agreed that while the industry had issues, the company's current direction wasn't entirely wrong and suggested they could expand in certain areas when the time was right. He promised to look into Ling Yu's proposal further.

Ling Yu felt disappointed by his stepfather's constant dismissal of his ideas, feeling he would never get his affirmation or attention. Back home, a devastated Ling Xi cried in Tang Cheng's arms, confirming that Zheng Li did not love her. Mowgli, unable to bear seeing her so heartbroken, secretly brought Ling Xi's safe to Yu Fu, presenting it to Zheng Li and both fathers.

Mowgli earnestly explained that the safe contained Ling Xi's true feelings, revealing how Ling Xi’s pranks were attempts to gain his attention and that she had concealed her deeper emotions due to timidity. Mowgli also mentioned that Ling Xi had been crying downstairs earlier. Zheng Li was shocked, realizing that Ling Xi's affection for him was sincere, not just a joke. Zheng Li's father chastised him for hurting Ling Xi, whom he considered like a daughter.

Zheng Li, apologetically, explained to Ling Xi’s father that he had always viewed Ling Xi as a sister, not a romantic interest. Mowgli urged Zheng Li to open the safe, the password being Zheng Li's birthday, promising he would like her once he saw its contents. Zheng Li reiterated he would not like her, as he only saw her as a sister. After Mowgli revealed Ling Xi's sorrow, her father took Mowgli aside.

Mowgli observed that despite her father's outwardly strict and distant demeanor towards Ling Xi, he deeply cared for her, though he kept his affection hidden, like a mountain of fatherly love. Mowgli explained that he and Ling Xi were simply good friends, just like with Tang Cheng. Meanwhile, Zheng Li opened the safe alone. Inside, he found a collection of letters and mementos, including a record Ling Xi had made, a handkerchief with their childhood photo, and her handwritten diary.

As he read through the diary entries, each page revealed her profound and consistent love for him over the years. He read entries about childhood incidents, such as when he sprained his ankle in 2001 and she missed an outing to do something important for him, believing he would be shocked. Another entry from 2008 mentioned a typhoon, a cancelled basketball game, and her "supporting light board" as a declaration of war against an older woman pursuing him.

He realized that even her "pranks" were done with such earnest effort. To cheer Ling Xi up, Tang Cheng took her for a scalp massage, but Ling Xi remained despondent. Tang Cheng, frustrated by Ling Xi’s self-pity, scolded her for lacking self-respect. She argued that true love requires reciprocation, otherwise, it’s just begging for affection. Tang Cheng questioned why Ling Xi couldn't pick herself up, even if Zheng Li never liked her.

Ling Xi, already fragile, retorted angrily, blaming Tang Cheng for preventing her from sending her first love letter because she had to care for a sick Tang Cheng that day. She further accused Tang Cheng of enjoying the thrill of being pursued in her own relationships. Their argument escalated into a full-blown fight, ending with Ling Xi leaving in a huff, declaring she no longer needed Tang Cheng to care for her.

After her heated argument with Ling Xi, Tang Cheng went to a bar to drink. As she was talking to a man she had just met, Ling Xi's earlier words echoed in her mind, causing her to abruptly leave the bar. She then went to a street food stall, where she began to sing loudly. Lu Ziyue, passing by, recognized the intoxicated Tang Cheng and offered to take her for a midnight snack.

They shared an open conversation for the first time. Tang Cheng, seeing Lu Ziyue's earnest attempts to console her, impulsively leaned in and kissed him. Lu Ziyue was startled, his eyes wide with surprise, yet he seemed to enjoy the unexpected moment.

During their conversation, Tang Cheng shared her frustration with Ling Xi’s unrequited love and her own fears about intimate relationships, using economic metaphors to explain the cycles of relationships (acquaintance, warming up, friction, and recovery) and the fear of commitment. Lu Ziyue, in turn, analyzed Tang Cheng as someone with a typical avoidant personality, sensitive and delicate, fearing intimacy yet craving it, and deeply empathetic to others' pain.
