Consort Ling had Qiqi tortured. Qiqi suspected it was a set-up and, when pressed, defiantly kicked Consort Ling. Enraged, Consort Ling whipped her mercilessly, demanding to know why she poisoned the King. Qiqi's maids, Lianqiao and Aheng, knelt outside the Grand Consort's palace, begging for help, but were told she was sleeping. The next day, they were still kneeling when Lv Che arrived.

Learning that Qiqi had been taken away by Consort Ling, he went to see his mother, the Grand Consort. Lv Che questioned his mother about her refusal to save Qiqi, but the Grand Consort explained that Qiqi was accused of poisoning Lv Ao, a serious crime she could not interfere with. Lv Che then decided to save Qiqi himself. Lv Che visited Lv Ao, who asked him how to deal with Qiqi's crime of using poison.

Lv Che suggested that since the barbarians were still causing trouble at the border and Qiqi's father, the Marquis of North, was a key general, killing Qiqi would be detrimental to the war effort. Instead, he proposed imprisoning Qiqi in the West Yard for life, a solution Lv Ao agreed to. Qiqi was taken to the West Yard, which was full of insane concubines.

She was assigned a straw shed and ordered to do chores like laundry, chopping firewood, and cooking. Determined to clear her name, Qiqi resolved to find a way to escape and explain her innocence to Lv Ao. Lv Che apologized to his mother, but the Grand Consort said his actions made Lv Ao wary of him.

She explained to Lv Che that even if he hadn't interceded, Lv Ao wouldn't have killed Qiqi, and that Lv Ao was only putting on an act for Consort Ling. The Grand Consort claimed Lv Che was just a pawn in Lv Ao's game. In the West Yard, Qiqi was tormented by the older female servants.

They woke her up, dripped hot candle wax on her hands, and later, while forcing her to wash clothes in a heavy rain, held her head in a puddle. Meanwhile, Lv Ao drank wine, filled with sorrow. He feared that if Qiqi recovered her memory and the news of his own poisoning was revealed, it would endanger the kingdom, which was why he had to imprison her. After losing consciousness, Qiqi awoke to find medicine beside her.

She thought Lv Ao had visited. Deciding she had to explain herself to Lv Ao, Qiqi tried to escape the West Yard. She found a hole in the wall and crawled through, but was caught and beaten by the servants. Lv Che arrived and tried to take her away, but Qiqi, not wanting to implicate him, refused to leave and limped back to her shed. Lv Che secretly visited Qiqi in her straw hut.

She insisted on clearing her name with Lv Ao, which angered Lv Che, as she was defending the man responsible for her suffering. Qiqi argued that Lv Ao must have been forced to send her to the West Yard. Seeing her desperation, Lv Che proposed a plan for her to escape Yiqi City by faking her death with "Expiring Powder." However, Qiqi refused to elope with him, confessing that she had fallen in love with Lv Ao.

Though hurt, Lv Che accepted her decision and offered to remain her close friend, someone who would always listen to her. To protect Qiqi, Lv Che bribed the head servant and moved Qiqi into the best room in the West Yard, threatening the woman not to harm her again. Thinking he might not see her for a long time, Lv Che asked for a hug, but Qiqi silently backed away.

He left, vowing to himself that he would give her everything she wanted. When Lv Ao heard about Lv Che's actions in the West Yard, he grew angry, suspecting his brother had ulterior motives toward Qiqi.
