A conversation about the "little Qi Shan" cave and a tree with no leaves, which is thousands of meters from the foot of Mount Wa, takes place as visitors approach. Mo Shanshan arrived at Mount Wa for the Yulan Festival, causing an awkward encounter with Ning Que and Sangsang. Sangsang, sensing the need for them to reconnect, feigned tiredness and retreated to the carriage. Ning Que and Mo Shanshan walked to a nearby scenic spot to talk.

Ning Que shared that he had upgraded his cultivation stage, and Mo Shanshan revealed she had also broken through to a new stage. Mo Shanshan expressed her shock upon hearing about Ning Que's battle with Xia Hou but also her unwavering belief that he would win. Ning Que admitted that while he had won, the victory came at a painful cost, as Sangsang had fallen gravely ill while helping him.

Mo Shanshan encouraged him, assuring him that Sangsang would recover, and Ning Que thanked her, also acknowledging her role in his rapid understanding of the Tao of Talismans. Suddenly, their big black horse roared excitedly, prompting Sangsang to try to calm it and feed it grass. However, the horse was insistent on pulling her towards Ning Que.

Mo Shanshan then informed Ning Que that Master Qi Shan had set up three Go games, and only those who successfully cleared them could meet him. Ning Que worried that Sangsang's condition wouldn't allow for such a delay. Sangsang pleaded with Mo Shanshan to accompany them, and Mo Shanshan agreed, offering to escort the Daughter of Light for a while.

As Sangsang and Mo Shanshan rode together in the carriage, Mo Shanshan mentioned that many people on Mount Wa were curious about Sangsang. Sangsang described herself as an "insignificant little maid," recalling anecdotes of how she was often overlooked. Mo Shanshan, however, found this endearing, noting that in Ning Que's eyes, Sangsang was the most beautiful and important. Sangsang, sensing Mo Shanshan's feelings for Ning Que, advised her to give up on him unless Sangsang herself were to die.

After a while, Mo Shanshan alighted from the carriage, watching Ning Que and Sangsang depart with a mix of emotions. Soon after, Lu Chenjia, the Princess of Yuelun State, arrived. She commented on Mo Shanshan's pain of unrequited love, to which Mo Shanshan responded that seeing Ning Que happy was satisfaction enough for her. She also cautioned Lu Chenjia against consulting Master Qi Shan about matters of love.

Ning Que and Sangsang then arrived at Huyue Ravine, where a yellow-robed ascetic blocked their path. The ascetic challenged Ning Que to crack his "Chaos Ko" endgame before passing. Impatient due to Sangsang's illness, Ning Que prepared to force their way through with his bow. Sangsang stopped him, suggesting she try the game. Despite Ning Que's concern about her health and inexperience, he carried her to the chessboard.

Sangsang, choosing white, initially struggled but eventually found a loophole and successfully cracked the game. The ascetic then allowed them to pass, and Ning Que immediately carried Sangsang further up the mountain. Next, they reached a pavilion where Master Dong Ming (also referred to as Jiu Ping) was waiting. He recognized Sangsang's ability to "figure out nature's mystery" and offered to let them pass directly.

However, Sangsang insisted on playing the game to adhere to the mountain's rules, and Master Dong Ming had even prepared a windscreen for her. Against the common practice of choosing white in this game, Sangsang chose black, believing it offered an advantage. During the game, Master Dong Ming inquired if Sangsang learned Go from Master Song Qian, the Kisei of South Jin who had been missing for years and was now Ning Que's fifth senior brother at the Academy.

Sangsang recognized Master Dong Ming from an old portrait, realizing he was thought to have passed away. The game quickly ended in a draw, with Master Dong Ming sealing the game and declaring that there could be no more perfect ending to his life than playing with such an opponent. He then allowed Ning Que and Sangsang to continue their ascent.

Meanwhile, Great Master Bao Shu, the Chief of Discipline of Sect Tian Qing, and Master Qu Ni arrived at Mount Wa. Guan Hai, a disciple of Master Qi Shan, intercepted them, informing them that Ning Que had already cleared two games.

Bao Shu and Qu Ni, driven by a "mission of the world," were determined to stop Ning Que, but Guan Hai stood firm, reiterating Master Qi Shan's instructions not to allow anyone to interfere with the established rules for visitors to Rotten-wood Temple. Despite their threats and implied force, Guan Hai held his ground, reminding them this was Master Qi Shan's domain.

Ning Que carried Sangsang to Master Qi Shan's cave, where they observed a tree with only three leaves remaining. Ning Que urgently pleaded with Master Qi Shan to save Sangsang, introducing himself as Mr. Thirteen, a pro disciple of the Sage. Master Qi Shan, however, questioned who truly wanted Sangsang saved: the Sage, Ning Que, or Sangsang herself. He explained that the final of the Three Go Games of Mount Wa required a life to be played.

As Ning Que furiously demanded treatment, Sangsang bravely declared that she would play the game. Just as she picked up a cold Go piece, a gust of wind blew two more leaves off the tree, leaving only one and intensifying Ning Que's desperate prayers for it not to fall. At that critical moment, Great Master Bao Shu and Master Qu Ni arrived at the cave, bowing to Master Qi Shan.

Master Qi Shan, immediately perceiving Bao Shu's intentions, commanded him to put away his Yulan Bell, a magic vessel meant to expose the Son of Hades. Qi Shan dismissed them, urging them to leave his "pure and clean place" if they had no proper business. He then offered a pear to Sangsang. Ning Que, impatient, urged her to play the game instead of eating, but Sangsang, eating hungrily, told him she was hungry.
