Ning Que walked through the streets of Chaoyang City, where a crowd had gathered around a wanted poster for Sangsang. Guards from Yuelun State were stirring up fear, proclaiming Sangsang to be the Daughter of Lord of the Deceased who brought disaster to the world. They urged everyone to capture her. The enraged citizens chanted for her death, and Ning Que, blending in with the crowd, joined their cries.

He later made his way to the Loft of Books of Fragrance, remarking on its pleasant scent, and took a bag of scriptures. Meanwhile, Long Qing, wanting to gather more information, departed from the Golden Horde before dawn with Zi Mo. Wu Zhu, visibly reluctant to see him go, repeatedly asked where he was headed. Long Qing explained that the world was in chaos and little news reached the prairie, so he had to see for himself.

Wu Zhu tearfully promised to wait for his return. Back in Chaoyang, Sangsang diligently followed Master Qi Shan’s instructions, reading scriptures until exhaustion. Ning Que noticed her sweating, a sign that the master's advice was indeed effective in treating Sangsang's cold poison. Joyful, he playfully confirmed that his "Sangsang was sweating" and promised to find more books and food. Sangsang, in turn, reminded him to wear his scarf.

One day, after Ning Que went out to get more scriptures and some food, even resorting to stealing some betel nuts which drew a chase from a merchant, he returned to find Sangsang collapsed. He immediately embraced her, warming her with his body heat until she gradually regained consciousness. To cheer her up, Ning Que reminisced about their life at the Academy, listing off their Senior Brothers and Sisters.

Sangsang expressed how much she missed them all, prompting Ning Que to decide they would return to the Academy, dreaming of a peaceful life there. Elsewhere, Lu Chenjia discovered the theft of her scriptures and sent out a butterfly to track the thief. Sangsang's health steadily improved, and she rediscovered her playful, innocent self.

She and Ning Que teased each other, with Sangsang playfully calling herself the Daughter of Lord of the Deceased who would bring suffering to the world, and Ning Que countering with affectionate taunts like "little bug" and "little demon". They found joy in their simple interactions. Sangsang then noticed a unique fragrance emanating from one of the scriptures, a smell Ning Que also found familiar. A butterfly, drawn by the scent, fluttered into their dwelling.

Sangsang excitedly chased it, but Ning Que, mindful of her health and the wanted posters plastered across the city, stopped her, fearing exposure. Sangsang seized the opportunity to suggest they go out for a stroll. Ning Que, after disguising them, agreed, and they wandered through the streets until they arrived at the BESTORE Shop. While sampling winter jujubes, a passerby recognized Sangsang from the wanted posters, prompting Ning Que to quickly pay and leave, promising Sangsang they would return later.

Lu Chenjia, guided by her butterfly, followed them from their temporary home to the White Pagoda. Ning Que, after teasing Sangsang about an "old demon" Master Qu Ni residing there and testing a protective barrier with a thrown stone, quickly led Sangsang away. Despite their precarious situation, Sangsang was thrilled by their escapade. Overcome with emotion, she hugged and playfully nibbled on Ning Que, expressing her happiness.

Observing their deep affection and unwavering devotion from a distance, Lu Chenjia felt a pang of envy. Upon returning to her abode, Lu Chenjia was surprised by an uninvited visit from Long Qing. He inquired about her well-being, mentioning her recent injury while protecting Mo Shanshan. Lu Chenjia, however, evaded his advances, stating she feared becoming an obstacle to his lofty ambitions.

Long Qing, now the chief strategist of the Golden Horde, tried to persuade her to return to the prairie with him, painting a picture of a life surrounded by flowers in all seasons. Lu Chenjia gently declined, then spoke of a couple she had seen in the city, scorned by the world yet deeply in love and finding joy in their hardship, envying their beautiful bond.

Long Qing quickly deduced she was referring to Ning Que and Sangsang, who he knew were in Chaoyang City. Lu Chenjia pleaded with him not to harm the couple, describing them as rare and beautiful. Long Qing verbally agreed but secretly instructed Zi Mo to send word of Ning Que and the Daughter of Lord of the Deceased's location to West Shrine and the Chief Master of Xuankong.

That night, Ning Que was irritated by the persistent cawing of crows outside. Unable to shoo them away, he returned inside, held Sangsang close, and sang a lullaby to comfort her, promising his protection. Meanwhile, Xiong Chumo received Zi Mo's message. Recognizing that the most dangerous place could also be the safest for hiding, and noting that Chaoyang City, being near the West Badlands, was undefended, he immediately dispatched Luo Kedi to lead the West Shrine Cavalry to Chaoyang City.

Their mission was to join forces with Xuankong to kill Sangsang. Simultaneously, disciples from the Hall of Light, incensed by the slander against their High Priest and her being hunted, vowed to defend Light and their High Priest till death, setting out for Chaoyang. Sangsang, feeling much better, expressed a desire to visit General Ma Shixiang in Wei City on their way back to the Academy.

Ning Que readily agreed, confirming it was part of his plan to visit both places. Luo Kedi and the West Shrine Cavalry soon arrived in Chaoyang City and met with Master Qi Nian. Luo Kedi inquired if Tian Qing would assist in killing the Daughter of Lord of the Deceased, even if it meant involving thousands of citizens. Master Qi Nian affirmed that people would contribute to prevent an apocalypse.

When asked about the Academy's potential intervention, Qi Nian stated that Tian Qing had their own methods and that the Chief Master of Xuankong would not interfere due to an agreement with the Sage and Temple Master to remain neutral in worldly affairs.

Luo Kedi, emphasizing that his and Qi Nian's cultivation was superior to Ning Que's, declared that no one could stop them unless the Sage intervened, to which Qi Nian added that he would proceed even if the Sage appeared. Unbeknownst to them, the High Priest of Light was observing this meeting. Ning Que, hearing the commotion outside and new wanted posters declaring the Daughter of Lord of the Deceased's presence, quickly realized the danger. He carried Sangsang and they immediately fled Chaoyang City. Luo Kedi, having received information, ordered his forces to search house by house for them.
