Xie Changye and Shen Ci confronted Lingjun, who had trapped Chun Yao and intended to marry Han Sheng. As they engaged Lingjun, Han Sheng, following Chun Yao's earlier instructions, used fire to force a poisonous worm out of her body, restoring Chun Yao's spiritual power. Despite their combined efforts, Xie Changye and Shen Ci were no match for Lingjun, with Shen Ci noting he was an extraordinary devil beyond their capabilities to kill.
Lingjun, enraged by their interference, vowed to send them to hell for ruining his wedding. At that critical moment, Han Sheng emerged and stabbed Lingjun in the chest with a dagger. Lingjun, stunned and hurt by her betrayal, demanded to know why she treated him this way, calling her "Hantan." Han Sheng retorted that she didn't believe he would ever let them go and that she, unlike Shen Ci, could harm him.
Profoundly disappointed, Lingjun declared he would transform the entire Southern Pool Kingdom into a lifeless city of devils, lamenting that the only person who ever pitied him had changed. Seeing Lingjun's escalating power, Shen Ci realized she had to act. She informed Xie Changye that the heart blood of a red-feathered merfolk could ward off evil and resist demonic beings, then revealed she was the last of her kind.
Xie Changye tried to stop her from sacrificing herself, but Shen Ci reminded him of his own philosophy about seizing a chance. She then used her heart blood to suppress Lingjun, explaining to Chun Yao that as a Heavenly Devil, Lingjun could only be restrained, not utterly destroyed. Before fully succumbing, Lingjun offered his last drop of blood to Chun Yao, fulfilling an earlier agreement to save all living beings.
Xie Changye held a dying Shen Ci, overwhelmed with sorrow and regret. Shen Ci then confessed that she was the little red fish he had saved as a child, and she had sworn to stay by his side forever after he had once injured himself defending her. She expressed no regrets about meeting him.
Xie Changye, heartbroken, carried her away, wishing for them to reunite in the next life, a wish she echoed, promising to be his red fish again while he pledged to protect her. Back at Hundred Spirits Lake, Han Sheng discussed Xie Changye and Shen Ci's tragic love with Chun Yao, musing that if Xie Changye had confessed his love earlier, he might not have lost her. Chun Yao observed that human hearts are unpredictable and one should cherish the present.
Meanwhile, Wu Yin, the Lord, instructed Kong Lan to prepare for the upcoming Laba Festival by hosting a congee banquet, adding spiritual herbs to the congee to boost everyone's spiritual power. Chun Yao visited Han Sheng, who had been sleeping since their return. As he observed her "cute face," a half-awake Han Sheng, sensing his presence, leaned in and kissed him.
Chun Yao was startled and awkwardly warned her not to do it again, joking about a "punishment" if she dared a third time. Later, Chun Yao read Han Sheng's Book of Spirits, discovering his past life as "Immortal Spring Water" and her as "Goddess Hantan." He learned that their demotion and reincarnation, and his current punishment, were linked to the "fallen immortal Si Mao" and a "flood of the River of Forget."
Chun Yao then received a visit from Beidou Xingjun, who presented him with three "coffin plates," hinting at grave consequences. Chun Yao, having learned about his past, confronted Beidou Xingjun, asking why he had hidden the truth about his and Hantan's past. Beidou Xingjun admitted he kept it secret to prevent their reunion, revealing that Han Sheng was Chun Yao's "millennium tribulation" and would bring him bad luck.
He explained that their spiritual powers were inherently incompatible, destined to repel and ultimately consume one another, with separation being the only solution. Beidou Xingjun gravely warned Chun Yao to stay away from Han Sheng, reminding him there was only "one last plate left to complete the coffin." Unaware of this dire warning, Han Sheng, seeking to understand love, asked Kong Lan about his romance with Wushang.
Kong Lan described how he had won Wushang's affection by making her Laba congee during the first snowfall of the year. He also shared a local legend: unlike the human world, it rarely snows in Hundred Spirits Lake, and if a beloved person agrees to watch the snow with you under the spiritual cocoon tree, it signifies a lifelong bond.
Learning that heavy snow was predicted for the first day of the Laba Festival, Han Sheng was overjoyed and decided to make Laba congee for Chun Yao and invite him to watch the snow. Han Sheng then found Chun Yao. Recalling Beidou Xingjun's warning, Chun Yao tried to appear distant and claimed to be busy with lake affairs. However, Han Sheng, having checked with Kong Lan, countered that he had no plans or other interests.
She insisted she would wait for him under the spiritual cocoon tree the next day until he showed up. The next morning, Han Sheng waited under the spiritual cocoon tree with her Laba congee, but Chun Yao did not appear. Kong Lan approached her and confessed that he had lied about the snow legend and that the first snow wasn't actually scheduled for that day.
Despite this, Han Sheng remained steadfast, vowing to wait until it snowed and Chun Yao still didn't come. Chun Yao, observing her from a distance, used his powers to conjure a snowfall. When Han Sheng saw the snow falling but no sign of Chun Yao, she sadly left. Later, Wu Yin encouraged Si Tong to attend the congee banquet, explaining that the Lord had added spiritual herbs to the Laba congee to aid their cultivation.
Si Tong, initially reluctant, agreed upon hearing the benefits. Meanwhile, Han Sheng returned to Chun Yao, her Laba congee now cold. She confronted him directly, demanding to know why he hadn't met her or watched the snow with her, and then, with unwavering resolve, asked him if he liked her.
