Lingjun prepared a thousand exquisite Star-Moon Lanterns for Han Sheng, reminiscent of a special lantern someone once gave her. He led her to witness the spectacle, which illuminated the entire kingdom, proclaiming his willingness to have the whole country adorned with lanterns if she desired. He then asked if she had any other wishes he could grant.

Han Sheng reflected on her life, marked by misfortune from birth, scorned for her mother's death, and now burdened by a rare disease, leaving her uncertain of her remaining time. She confessed her singular wish for "the peace of the world." Impressed by her compassion, Lingjun then proposed that she become his queen. Before Han Sheng could fully respond, Lingjun declared his feelings and kissed her. Han Sheng immediately pushed him away, questioning his actions. Lingjun apologized for his impulsiveness.

Unseen by them, Chun Yao had arrived with a lantern he intended to give Han Sheng, but upon witnessing the kiss, he left disheartened. Upset by the encounter, Han Sheng ran back to her room, leaving Lingjun to regret his haste. Meanwhile, Shen Ci brought fresh osmanthus for Xie Changye's bath. Xie Changye requested her assistance in undressing and probed her reasons for repeatedly helping the merman Heng, asking if it was due to shared kinship or deeper romantic feelings.

He even offered to fulfill her wish if she loved Heng. Shen Ci clarified that she only felt pity for Heng, as her heart had always belonged to one person. Pressing for the identity of her beloved, Xie Changye discovered a dropped pouch with an unfinished embroidered poem that alluded to her affection for him. He directly asked if he was the one she loved. Tearfully, Shen Ci confessed her profound love, leading Xie Changye to passionately kiss her.

After her encounter with Lingjun, Han Sheng went to Chun Yao's room, calling out to him. However, Chun Yao deliberately remained silent inside, having misinterpreted her interaction with Lingjun. Lingjun, who had followed Han Sheng, observed her deep concern for Chun Yao and sadly questioned his own significance in her life. Princess Huai'an received a letter revealing Han Sheng's true identity as Xie Changwan, the long-lost Princess of the Northland Kingdom, who was betrothed to Lingjun.

Enraged by this deception, she confronted Xie Changye, accusing him of betraying her trust by concealing his sister's identity. Xie Changye admitted Han Sheng was his sister but claimed he kept it secret to protect their larger plan, pleading for forgiveness. Huai'an, feeling used as a pawn, demanded that he publicly propose to her during the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival banquet, after she exposed Han Sheng's identity to Lingjun, ensuring a strengthened alliance between their nations.

Xie Changye feigned agreement but reminded her of their original pact: she could not become queen until Lingjun was dead. Huai'an then agreed to ensure Lingjun's demise. At the Mid-Autumn Festival banquet, Lingjun, looking pleased, allowed Princess Huai'an to announce her discovery of Xie Changwan, the Northland Princess betrothed to him. Huai'an pointed to Han Sheng as the princess, surprising many. Chun Yao quickly denied it, asserting Han Sheng was merely his maid and questioning her resemblance to royalty.

Other guests echoed his skepticism, but Huai'an defensively challenged their disbelief. Xie Changye then stepped forward, confirming Han Sheng's identity as Princess Changwan, his royal sister. He explained his previous uncertainty due to her early disappearance but stated that a distinct birthmark on her body definitively confirmed her identity. Lingjun, understanding her supposed amnesia, forgave her past actions and publicly declared his intention to marry Han Sheng, now acknowledging her as Xie Changwan.

He asked Han Sheng if she accepted his proposal. Han Sheng, contemplating the dire consequences of publicly refusing the king, hesitated. Xie Changye preemptively thanked Lingjun on her behalf. Seizing the moment, Xie Changye then requested Lingjun's permission to marry Princess Huai'an, citing their mutual affection and the new era of peace between their nations. Huai'an confirmed her love for Changye.

Lingjun, delighted, approved both unions, proclaiming it a joyous day that marked the end of wars between the two kingdoms. Disappointed by Han Sheng's apparent acceptance of the marriage, Chun Yao angrily walked away from the banquet. Han Sheng chased after him, asking what she should do. Chun Yao coldly reminded her that she agreed to marry the king in the hall, suggesting she could not have it both ways and questioning her sincerity, implying she always wanted to stay.

Han Sheng protested that Xie Changye's public revelation forced her into a dilemma. She accused Chun Yao of making all her decisions previously—keeping her at Hundred Spirits Lake, taking her as an apprentice, instructing her to stay and catch the merman with the king's help—only to now demand she make her own choice and treat her as one of "others." Chun Yao dismissed her outrage.

Han Sheng then questioned if Chun Yao was the one who revealed her identity to Huai'an, since her brother and Shen Ci wouldn't have. Chun Yao, unyielding, told her to "think whatever you want," and cruelly stated that her main value was to lure spirits, and now that the merman was found, she was "no longer useful" and a "burden." Heartbroken, Han Sheng accepted his words, agreeing they should part ways "as he wishes."

Later, Han Sheng stood alone in the rain, realizing that although Lingjun's proposal fulfilled her long-held wish for peace, the one she truly desired to spend her life with was Chun Yao. Lingjun found her and escorted her with an umbrella. Chun Yao observed them from a distance, recalling a prior conversation with Lingjun.

Lingjun had sought Chun Yao out, reiterating Ling Po's prophecy that their intertwined destinies would lead to destruction, and that Chun Yao, an immortal, and Han Sheng, a mortal, could never truly be together. Lingjun had asserted that he alone could offer Han Sheng a happy life, and then announced his intention to propose to her at the Mid-Autumn Festival, securing Chun Yao's promise to respect Han Sheng's choice.

Chun Yao then reflected that perhaps Han Sheng staying was for her own good, even if it meant he must start anew. The next morning, Princess Huai'an noticed Shen Ci's eyes were swollen from crying, clearly distraught over Xie Changye's impending marriage to Huai'an. Huai'an, angered by this display of sadness, attempted to strike Shen Ci, but Xie Changye intervened, calming Huai'an and taking her away for breakfast.

Later, Chun Yao found Shen Ci and advised her to let go of unchangeable situations, likening it to the endless task of Wu Gang cutting the osmanthus tree. He told her that if she could let go, any place could be home, and invited her to return to the Hundred Spirits Lake with him the following morning.

Shen Ci, however, turned the question back to Chun Yao, asking if he himself was capable of letting go of his deep feelings for Han Sheng, leaving him without a response. Hearing that Han Sheng had been ill for days, Chun Yao visited her room. He presented her with a "Spiritual Twin Nephrite" that he personally crafted using his spiritual power, explaining that while the material was somewhat lacking, it could still ward off evil and protect her.

Han Sheng, recalling their painful parting, questioned why he would bring her a gift now. As Chun Yao began to explain, Lingjun arrived with an array of wedding dresses and gifts, urging Han Sheng to choose one for their upcoming wedding. Lingjun then invited Chun Yao to help.

Feeling a surge of emotion, Chun Yao declared the Spiritual Twin Nephrite to be his "dowry" and "wedding gift" for them, then turned to leave, adding a callous remark about Han Sheng settling her debts to the Hundred Spirits Lake. Furious at being pushed away, Han Sheng demanded Lingjun return the "stupid Twin Nephrite" to Chun Yao. Lingjun took the jade, but his hand was instantly burned, causing him to drop it and order his guards to discard it.

Chun Yao intervened, picked up the jade, and revealed that the Spiritual Twin Nephrite, imbued with his spiritual power, would react and send a warning if any evil approaches it. He then firmly instructed Han Sheng to keep it on her at all times. Back in his quarters, Chun Yao reflected on Lingjun's suspicious reaction to the Spiritual Twin Nephrite. He sensed that since their arrival at the palace, every event had been orchestrated and controlled by Lingjun.

He recalled Ling Po's earlier assessment that Lingjun possessed "the Qi of a devil." This, combined with Lingjun's deceptive actions and elaborate schemes to win Han Sheng, solidified Chun Yao's suspicions that there was something profoundly wrong with Lingjun. He resolved to stay and uncover the truth, realizing he could not leave.
