Leng Xue and Chu Limo, who were privately engaged, were living in seclusion outside the capital. Ji Yaohua, claiming to act in Shenhou Mansion's best interest, repeatedly sought Leng Xue's whereabouts from Zhui Ming, hoping to gain his trust and extract information. Zhui Ming, unsure of Ji Yaohua's true allegiance and suspecting her urgent motives, refused to disclose Leng Xue's location, replying with "no comment."

He knew Ji Yaohua could no longer win Leng Xue's love and suspected she wanted to use Leng Xue to find Chu Limo, an escaped show girl pursued by the court, believing that if Chu Limo were apprehended and handed to Prince Xiang, Ji Yaohua might have a chance with Leng Xue. Despite Zhui Ming's refusal, Ji Yaohua eventually found Leng Xue and Chu Limo's secluded residence.

She again claimed to be acting for Shenhou Mansion, blaming Chu Limo for the Mansion having been sealed, and declared her intention to apprehend Chu Limo and hand her to Prince Xiang. Leng Xue staunchly defended Chu Limo, explaining that Shenhou Mansion had already been unsealed and investigations resumed, and he believed Zhuge, though suspended, would soon be reinstated. He blocked Ji Yaohua's attempt to seize Chu Limo, forcing Ji Yaohua to leave without conflict.

During this confrontation, Chu Limo secretly used her mind-reading ability on Ji Yaohua, discovering An Shigeng's influence and deep-seated hatred within her, confirming Chu Limo's premonition that Ji Yaohua's words were premeditated. Zhuge Zhengwo was aware that Ji Yaohua had visited Leng Xue and Chu Limo, and had previously admonished her for her actions in seeking Leng Xue, pointing out that if she were followed, Chu Limo's hiding place would be revealed.

Later, Zhuge Zhengwo discovered the smell of kerosene on a black silk cloth. Trusting Ji Yaohua, he assigned her to lead the investigation into the secret transport of kerosene into the capital, specifically instructing her not to let personal feelings interfere with the case. However, Ji Yaohua interpreted his trust as unfair favoritism towards Chu Limo.

Indeed, Ji Yaohua met with An Shigeng, who was waiting for her at his mansion and held her wrist, which she dared not pull away from. Ji Yaohua subsequently informed An Shigeng of Leng Xue and Chu Limo's whereabouts. This kerosene transport was part of an "earth-shattering conspiracy" orchestrated by An Shigeng, who often spoke to the preserved body of the deceased Ruyan, claiming she lived in his heart and informing her of his impending grand scheme.

Yu Chuntong had dispatched dozens of loyal dead soldiers to An Shigeng, commanding them to secretly transport the kerosene. Wu Qing and Leng Xue returned to the capital to investigate this kerosene case. They encountered a notorious bandit named Huang Yitian, whose official file had mysteriously disappeared after Ji Yaohua took charge. Huang Yitian was observed transporting a cart of kerosene into the city without being challenged by either the Six Doors or Ji Yaohua.

Wu Qing and Leng Xue covertly intercepted Huang Yitian, but he committed suicide by poison before they could question him. Subsequently, Zhui Ming and Tie Shou discovered that the kerosene had been transported to Prince An's Mansion. Yu Chuntong, noticing a missing carriage and a coachman who had committed suicide, realized that Shenhou Mansion had uncovered their secret kerosene operation. Wu Qing suspected that Ji Yaohua had been compromised by An Shigeng.

Separately, An Shigeng was also involved in another scheme concerning Prince Zhu, who was embroiled in a counterfeit currency mold case with solid evidence. Despite this, the Emperor had not yet issued an edict for Prince Zhu's punishment. An Shigeng pressured Prince Xiang regarding the matter, but Prince Xiang was unable to obtain the imperial edict from the Emperor, forcing An Shigeng to devise alternative methods.
