Mu Xingchen feels regret for drinking too much and making a grave mistake, knowing he loves Ye Yunshang and would betray her by taking responsibility for Chu Tianyao. Ye Yunshang believes there is something suspicious about the situation, as she herself took a drunken Mu Xingchen to his room, making it unlikely he could have assaulted Chu Tianyao. She confronts Chu Tianyao, accusing her of drugging Mu Xingchen and bringing up Song Ziqing's autopsy, suggesting Chu Tianyao poisoned Song Ziqing.
Chu Tianyao denies everything, claims Ye Yunshang is slandering her, and tearfully speaks of her miserable life. Feeling uneasy, Ye Yunshang apologizes and urges Mu Xingchen to take responsibility for Chu Tianyao. Mu Xingchen, unable to explain, decides to address the Pharmaceutical factory problem first. Shangguan Wenxuan angrily confronts Mu Xingchen, but Chu Tianyao stops him. Yuan Zhi then arrives, and both men vie for Chu Tianyao's attention, which she dismisses by chasing them away.
Mu Nan Yue visits Xiaodie's grave with Zeng Shuya, advising her to remarry. Zeng Shuya expresses her enduring love for him, content to simply remain by his side. Mu Xingchen discovers the Pharmaceutical factory is still producing and confronts Ye Qiushi for breaking his promise. Ye Qiushi retorts that he only agreed to stop production because Mu Xingchen promised to marry Ye Yunshang, and given Mu Xingchen's entanglement with Chu Tianyao, he feels justified.
Mu Xingchen assures Ye Qiushi he will uphold his promise. Ye Qiushi then directs Mu Xingchen to Saint Mary's Hospital, where Ye Yunshang is observing her mother's death anniversary. At the deserted Saint Mary's Hospital, where her mother worked and died when Ye Yunshang was five, Ye Yunshang weeps and initially refuses to see Mu Xingchen. He asks her to consider why he would have gone to his own room if he intended to be with Chu Tianyao.
As Ye Yunshang contemplates forgiving him, Qiao Zheng Kun arrives, also there to mourn Ye Yunshang's mother, who died from a viral infection contracted after performing surgery on him. Mu Xingchen notices a newly locked room and uses his Qing Nang skills to discover it contains guns and gunpowder. Ye Yunshang informs her father, Ye Qiushi, who warns her to stay out of it.
Meanwhile, Qiao Zhen Tian is at home when his family informs him that Leiya, a foreign woman with a new hairstyle, is looking for him. Qiao Zhen Tian hides in fear. Leiya is struggling to find him. Qiao Zhen Tian suddenly collapses, and Qiao Zheng Kun discovers distinctive tree-like bruises on his chest.
