Lu Sen had settled into the Sunflower Guesthouse, though he found the room too small and said it was no match for his house. He also wanted to spend more time with Yang Shanshan, which annoyed her, prompting her to call him self-obsessed and snide. She clearly told him not to expect five-star service at a guesthouse, directing him to the first-floor water dispenser or vending machine for drinks and offering free instant noodles if he was hungry.
When he then asked which room she lived in, Yang Shanshan retorted that they weren't close enough for such information. He clarified he merely wanted to know where to find her if he needed something. Angrily, Yang Shanshan told him that if he wanted five-star service, he should go to a five-star hotel. If he insisted on staying, he should keep quiet, remain in his room, and leave the next day.
After this interaction, Yang Shanshan's eyes welled up with tears as she walked away. Yang Shanshan had informed Fu Yang's team that Lu Sen was following her and asked them to resolve the situation. Fu Yang decided to go retrieve him, and Kang Li'er insisted on accompanying him, believing she could better persuade Lu Sen. On the way, Fu Yang called Lu Sen, who was surprised he knew his whereabouts.
Fu Yang fabricated a story, claiming Friday's model prototype—a part-time worker—had called him, complaining that a strange man was following her and thought Lu Sen was a psychopath, asking Fu Yang to take him away. Lu Sen explained he found the resemblance unbelievable and hadn't realized he was following her. Fu Yang instructed Lu Sen to stay put and do nothing, assuring him they were coming to pick him up.
Lu Sen then directly questioned Fu Yang, asking if the woman was "really just a template" and if he was lying. Fu Yang strongly denied this, reiterating for Lu Sen to wait for them. Kang Li'er expressed hope that Yang Shanshan would handle the situation as they had pre-briefed her on the explanation. That night, unable to sleep, Lu Sen wandered into the kitchen where he found Yang Shanshan.
She, startled by his sudden appearance, suggested he go to the beach for fresh air when he mentioned his insomnia. Their conversation was interrupted by Grandma, who, upon seeing Lu Sen, declared him a VIP guest and insisted that Yang Shanshan accompany him to the beach to enjoy the night views, despite Yang Shanshan's protests that she was sleepy. Reluctantly, Yang Shanshan took Lu Sen to the beach.
As they walked, Lu Sen commented on the surreal feeling of strolling with "Friday," which upset Yang Shanshan, who firmly reminded him she was human, not a robot. They briefly exchanged their approximate ages, and Lu Sen asked if they could be friends, a request Yang Shanshan initially declined, stating "just because." Noticing the impending rain, Lu Sen shared his fondness for it, recalling a rainy night with fireworks when "she was standing right in front of me."
He then asked if he could confide in her about his story with Friday, emphasizing he only wanted to share it with her. Yang Shanshan agreed. Lu Sen recounted how he found Friday special from the moment she arrived, but ultimately made the "silly decision" to initialize her, ending everything.
When Yang Shanshan pressed him on his recovery, he admitted that while he had healed and made friends, his heart still "hurt sometimes" and he had felt stifled for a long time. He spoke of slowly getting better and learning to "be strong and live bravely" as Friday had instructed, living alone, going to work, eating, visiting bookstores, watching movies, and traveling.
Though it sounded fulfilling, he confessed to feeling "empty all the time" and imagined Friday would simply say, "thank you for trying hard." Yang Shanshan was moved to tears by his story, which she attributed to its emotional impact. Lu Sen then asked her why she thought initializing Friday was a foolish act. He offered to explain if she agreed to be his friend, to which she conceded, but stipulated "only for tonight."
He elaborated that despite all his efforts after the initialization—including deep learning and repeated data input—he could never bring back the "old Friday." He realized then that his feelings for her had been real, but he had been too afraid to accept them and had been "punished as a result," leading to his current state of grumbling. Turning the conversation, Lu Sen asked about her family.
Yang Shanshan revealed she lived with her uncle, aunt, and cousin, Enbao, and that her father had passed away. She fondly remembered him as a skilled auto repair technician who could fix any car, and she had always aspired to be like him. She confessed to feeling worthless for a long time until a friend told her she was "valuable," trusted her, and encouraged her dreams.
Lu Sen suggested her friend would be delighted to know how much he meant to her, and Yang Shanshan promised to tell him next time they met. Finally, Yang Shanshan declared that their "fate" ended that night, and they should return to their separate lives tomorrow. Lu Sen accepted this. As it began to rain, he removed his coat to shield her as they walked back to the guesthouse.
The next morning, Grandma praised Lu Sen to Yang Shanshan, calling him handsome and a great cook, and chastised Yang Shanshan for sulking. Lu Sen offered gifts to both Grandma and Yang Shanshan. Grandma again attempted to send them shopping together, but Yang Shanshan reminded her that Lu Sen was leaving that day. Just then, Fu Yang and Kang Li'er arrived. Fu Yang apologized to Yang Shanshan for the prolonged bother and told Lu Sen to pack up.
Lu Sen tried to offer to help Yang Shanshan with her shopping, but she politely declined, and Fu Yang insisted he was disturbing her. Lu Sen then declared his desire to celebrate his birthday. Fu Yang, confused, pointed out his actual birthday was August 20. Lu Sen explained he didn't celebrate on that date because it was when his parents tragically died in a car accident, adding that only Kang Li'er remembered him with a card each year.
He declared this his "last request" before leaving tomorrow. Later, Kang Li'er spoke with Yang Shanshan, comparing their current situation to a dream from which they would soon wake and return to reality. She urged Yang Shanshan to embrace the "fate" that brought them together for this day and be a friend to Lu Sen, warning her against future regret for any coldness. She emphasized Lu Sen's years of solitude and how much he valued every moment with her.
Yang Shanshan, however, expressed her inability to continue, stating she understood the pain of dashed hopes. Despite the tension, the group went out. Fu Yang and Kang Li'er strategically allowed Lu Sen and Yang Shanshan some space while keeping a watchful eye. They enjoyed street food, with Lu Sen expressing his excitement about seeing Oden, which he'd only seen on TV, though he humorously noted it wasn't like his usual Kobe beef or Maine lobster.
Yang Shanshan then bought him some Oden and cotton candy. Back at the lab, a team member found that some files had been leaked, but thankfully nothing important. However, a previously deleted folder named "Orange Marmalade" had reappeared on the computer. Puzzled as no one admitted to creating it, they questioned Friday, who confirmed she was responsible.
Friday explained that she had sensed Lu Sen's "hard time saying goodbye" to those files before initialization and had therefore created and saved them. It was then realized that among the leaked files were videos of Lu Sen's deep learning sessions. Later that night, as they celebrated, Yang Shanshan asked Lu Sen about his birthday wish. He wished for the person he missed the most to appear before him.
Yang Shanshan warned him that wishes spoken aloud wouldn't come true and urged him to make another, but Lu Sen replied it didn't matter, as none of his wishes had ever been fulfilled anyway. He then thanked Yang Shanshan for celebrating his birthday and remembering his name, wishing he could tell Friday about her.
Yang Shanshan reiterated that their connection should end there, proposing that he return to his city and she remain on her island, with each living their lives well. Lu Sen quietly agreed. That night, with no other rooms available, Fu Yang and Lu Sen shared a room. Lu Sen shared gifts he had prepared for his team, including an astronaut mug for Fu Yang, and declared his intention to spend every future special day with them.
He then asked Fu Yang if he knew Yang Shanshan well. When Fu Yang denied it, Lu Sen confided that Yang Shanshan felt "exactly like Friday" to him. Fu Yang vehemently disagreed, emphasizing that Friday was the world's most perfect robot. However, Lu Sen described how seeing Yang Shanshan made his heart beat fast, just like with Friday, and how her absence made his "heart grow fonder," only to feel "cheerful again" upon her return.
Meanwhile, Yang Shanshan, realizing her necklace was missing from the yard, quickly found it in the sink where it had fallen while she was washing her face. Just as she retrieved it, Lu Sen appeared. Seeing the necklace in her hand, he recognized it as the one he had given Friday, and the devastating realization struck him: Yang Shanshan was Friday, and everyone had been lying to him from the very beginning.
His emotions spiraled, intensified by the arrival of Fu Yang, confirming his suspicion that Fu Yang too was part of the deception. Overwhelmed, Lu Sen collapsed. Yang Shanshan quickly intervened, preventing Fu Yang and Kang Li'er from touching him and administering an emergency injection. Lu Sen was rushed to the hospital. Dr. Ou, furious, confronted Yang Shanshan, blaming her for the severe relapse. He explained that Lu Sen's allergy was now triggered even without physical contact, a critical deterioration.
Dr. Ou revealed he had only seen two cases of this rare condition globally; the other patient, a Danish man, had recently died after being betrayed by a nurse he loved who ran off with his money. When Yang Shanshan, overwhelmed and apologetic, struggled to respond, Dr. Ou stressed the gravity of Lu Sen's condition, which was more severe than ever before. Even his own proximity caused Lu Sen's vital signs to spike.
He couldn't imagine Lu Sen's reaction upon waking and seeing them. Although Lu Sen's life was saved, Dr. Ou lamented that his "connection to the rest of the world" had been destroyed, and it was highly improbable he would ever return to his former self, a state that had taken Dr. Ou fifteen years to achieve. He sternly warned them to stay away from Lu Sen, stating they were the last people he wished to see.
With tears in her eyes, Yang Shanshan handed the "Orange Marmalade" necklace to Dr. Ou, apologizing and asking him to take good care of Lu Sen. She promised to repay what she owed him little by little, then departed. Back at the lab, Lu Sen's team discussed the gifts he had prepared for them before his collapse.
They felt undeserving, given how kind he had been and now he was alone in a large, cold house, seriously ill, with no one to care for him. One team member then suggested that someone "could" care for him. Ultimately, Fu Yang decided that "Friday belongs to Lu Sen" and they "should return it to its owner," implying Friday would be sent to care for him.
