Qiao Yinwan channeled her suppressed grief and hatred into a stirring performance of "Rhapsodie Tzigane" at the Bachongtian Club. In the audience, Sawa Eisaku feigned appreciation for her talent, presenting her with a flower basket and ten gold bars as a reward. After the show, He Xian confronted Yinwan, deeply concerned to learn she had resigned from her teaching post to return to the club.
He warned her that the Special Operations Team’s headquarters was located right upstairs, making the venue a dangerous "fire pit." Lok Pak intervened, reminding He Xian that he was already on the Japanese priority watch list and should avoid associating with Yinwan for her own safety. Sawa, meanwhile, ordered his subordinates to keep He Xian under constant surveillance. Luo Baixin visited the bedridden Ma Wanqi while wearing her white wedding dress, hoping to marry him once he recovered.
However, Ma Wanqi kept the severity of his pneumonia a secret. Using the chaotic situation in Macau as a pretext, he urged her to look through enrollment advertisements for foreign universities, suggesting she study abroad to escape the brewing danger. He even arranged the tuition and travel funds through Ms. Ming. Feeling as though she was being pushed away, Baixin was heartbroken, leading to a painful misunderstanding between the two.
He Xian sought out Yinwan again, trying to persuade her not to risk her life out of a moment of impulse. Yinwan remained firm, arguing that staying at the club was her only way to get close to the Japanese and gather intelligence. She believed that by doing so, she could prevent other compatriots from suffering the same fate as her brother, who had taught her that "great love is great righteousness."
Elsewhere, the conflict between local factions and the Portuguese merchants escalated. Seeking revenge for the interception of their merchant ship, Master Sanhe ignored Huang Zixia’s pleas for patience and insisted on a night raid against Rodrigues’ fleet.
Sawa Eisaku and Fukae presented Governor De Solaire with a final ultimatum: if the Macau government immediately banned the sale of Chinese government bonds and prohibited anti-Japanese propaganda, the Japanese would guarantee the safety of Portuguese merchant ships and grant them exclusive trading rights for essential materials. De Solaire eventually conceded, and the ban took effect immediately, sparking panic in Macau's financial sector.
He Xian was shocked when Lok Pak abstained from the vote, effectively halting the issuance of the bonds. When Liang Yanming tried to confront the Governor, he was ignored. Refusing to give up, the elderly educator took to the streets with his students, clutching a stack of bonds and calling on citizens to contribute what they could to save the nation. Fukae acted as a middleman, introducing Rodrigues to Wang Qizheng, the manager of the Great Chinese Union Trading Company.
Wang, who was backed by the puppet government in Nanjing, offered high prices to purchase Rodrigues' cargo and promised a long-term partnership. While they were discussing terms, a disturbance broke out on the street below. Huang Gongjie and his thugs arrived to violently smash Liang Yanming’s fundraising stall, injuring several teachers and students. Inspector General Gonçalves arrived at the scene but, fearing Japanese influence, twisted the facts by claiming both sides were engaged in a "mutual street fight."
He confiscated all the bonds and promotional materials. Watching the brutality from his window, Rodrigues was visibly moved and chose to postpone his cooperation with Wang Qizheng. The Portuguese Macau government soon formally abolished the Government Bond Fundraising Committee. Liang Yanming received a threatening letter containing a bullet from Japanese agents, but he met the intimidation with cold laughter.
When Ke Lin and others urged him to be cautious and "take the long view," Liang reacted with fury, arguing that if every Chinese citizen hesitated out of fear, the country would be lost forever. The next morning, Gonçalves officially sealed the committee’s office. A devastated Liang silently picked up his fallen armband from the ground. Despite the blow, De Solaire sent a personal invitation to Liang to attend the midnight mass at St. Dominic's Church on Christmas Eve.
Yinwan later confronted Lok Pak about his decision to abstain from the vote. Lok Pak confessed that he had done so specifically to protect her; by banning the protests, he hoped to remove her need to act as a spy and keep her out of harm’s way. He admitted his deep feelings for her, leaving Yinwan speechless. Meanwhile, He Xian and Ke Lin tracked down Yang Chang at the Flower-Stern Ferry, finding him in a drunken stupor.
It was revealed that Yang Chang had failed to deliver a crucial message to Master Sanhe the night before because he was drowning his sorrows. Later at a small tavern, Yang Chang confessed to He Xian that he had been living like a "mindless zombie" since Mary’s death, haunted by the memory of her in her nurse's uniform. Ma Wanqi joined them, and the three men shared their collective sorrows. Ma Wanqi revealed that he had received news that Baixin had returned her wedding dress, signaling the deepening rift in their relationship.
