Just as the Japanese Special Service Agency prepared to arrest Qiao Yinwan, Lok Pak arrived and moved her to safety. To ensure her long-term protection, he escorted her to the Government House to negotiate with Governor Isoya regarding the implementation of military currency. During the meeting, Major Yamaguchi attempted to take Yinwan by force, but Lok Pak sternly rebuked him for intimidating his fiancée.

Seeking to maintain a facade of cooperation with the Macau authorities, Isoya intervened and provided Yinwan with an alibi, claiming she had been at a welcome dinner the entire evening. Under the Governor's pressure, a reluctant Yamaguchi was forced to apologize and withdraw. Meanwhile, the mission to smuggle banknote printing paper into Macau reached a climax.

Ma Wanqi placed He Xian on the rear boat with the actual cargo while he and the Tai Ho Brotherhood sailors led the way on an empty decoy vessel. Near the Macau waters, several Japanese patrol boats led by Huang Gongjie intercepted them. To protect the printing paper, Ma Wanqi intentionally drew the enemy’s fire toward his boat. Just as the situation turned dire, the anti-Japanese guerrilla team arrived to provide cover.

Following a tense exchange, the printing paper was successfully delivered to Macau. On the journey back, Lok Pak expressed his anxiety over Yinwan’s danger and his growing respect for He Xian and the late Qiao Renyu. Yinwan, however, remained deeply worried about He Xian’s safety. Her fears were justified; suspicious after the seafight, Sawa Eisaku drove to He Xian’s residence at 2:00 AM.

He Xian managed to slip back into his house through a window just in time, pretending to be in a drunken stupor. Sawa Eisaku questioned He Xian’s children, but they remained remarkably quick-witted, insisting their father had been home all night celebrating a birthday. The confrontation was interrupted by a call from Dr. Ke Lin. He Xian used the call as a pretext to rush to the hospital, and Sawa Eisaku insisted on accompanying him.

They found Ma Wanqi unconscious and in critical condition. Ke Lin explained that Ma Wanqi was suffering from severe tuberculosis, which had caused him to cough up blood. Still suspicious, Sawa Eisaku summoned a Japanese doctor, Tanaka, to verify the diagnosis. When Tanaka confirmed Ke Lin’s findings, the Japanese finally departed. He Xian then realized that Ma Wanqi’s illness was not a ruse.

Ke Lin was overcome with guilt, blaming himself as a doctor and a friend for failing to notice the severity of his friend's condition sooner. Soon after, the Portuguese Macau government announced the issuance of new Macau patacas to stabilize the financial market. Guo Qiwen visited Yang Chang at the Flower-Stern Ferry, where he was drinking heavily in despair. She showed him one of the first new notes, proving that Mary’s sacrifice had not been in vain.

Qiao Yinwan’s past resentment toward He Xian finally dissolved. As the two walked together, He Xian noticed they were being followed by Huang Gongjie. To ensure Yinwan’s safety, he sent her away and confronted Huang directly. He warned Huang that he held evidence of the Captain’s past misdeeds and reminded him that his position as a manager at both Tai Fung Bank and the BNU made him a dangerous target.

Huang Gongjie was forced to let He Xian go, though his subordinates were eager to kill him. Later that evening, He Xian and his wife visited Ma Wanqi, who was being cared for by Baixin. However, Ma Wanqi treated Baixin with uncharacteristic coldness. On their way home, He Xian and Guo Qiwen surmised that Ma Wanqi was intentionally pushing her away because of his terminal illness, hoping to spare her the pain of his death.

Shortly thereafter, Liang Yanming met with Ke Lin and He Xian to relay urgent instructions from Chongqing. The Nationalist Government required the Macau financial market to facilitate the emergency issuance of wartime government bonds to support the resistance efforts. He Xian presented the bond underwriting proposal to the board of directors at the BNU. While directors like Antonio and Aveiro were concerned about the Japanese reaction, He Xian delivered a powerful argument.

He reminded the board that throughout the war, Macau had only survived through the mutual support of its Portuguese and Chinese residents. Invoking the concept of a shared destiny, he told the board that as they lived on the same land, looking out for one another was their only choice for survival.
