Lu Qiyi, accompanied by her father, arrived at Southern Foreign Studies University for freshman registration.
However, her name was not called during the roll call for the English major. As her father questioned the teacher, Lu Qiyi secretly asked her childhood friend, Zhang Yang, whose father was Director Zhang, to call her dad urgently. When her father received the call about an urgent medical consultation at the hospital, Lu Qiyi quickly reassured him that she could handle the registration herself. As soon as her father left, she ran off, abandoning the fake registration.
Lu Qiyi's narration revealed that she had secretly applied to Southern University of the Arts, an endeavor her parents opposed. To maintain her deception, she had forged an acceptance letter from Southern Foreign Studies University, embarking on what she called her "absurd college life." Meanwhile, Fang Yan was traveling to Southern University of the Arts on a public bus. He noticed a young man occupying a seat that an elderly gentleman with mobility issues had been offered.
Pretending to feel nauseous, Fang Yan successfully made the young man vacate the seat, allowing the elderly man to sit comfortably. To reach her true university quickly, Lu Qiyi attempted a shortcut, which involved climbing over an iron gate. She got stuck midway, paralyzed by fear. Du Ang, another incoming freshman, passed by and offered assistance. He instructed her to jump, promising to catch her, but when she did, she landed directly on him.
Apologizing profusely and thanking him, a hurried Lu Qiyi quickly left to meet her friend, Bai Qiao. Upon arriving at their dorm, they discovered it was room 671, coincidentally matching Lu Qiyi’s name. Their roommates included the lively Hao Kaixin, a fellow School of Performing Arts student, and Zouyang Zimo, the sole School of Directing student in the room, who constantly recorded her surroundings with a camera.
Hao Kaixin playfully pointed out the coincidence of Lu Qiyi's name and their dorm number. Zouyang Zimo suggested they all go for hotpot that evening, but then declined herself, stating she had other plans. Fang Yan also settled into his dorm with his roommates: Zhang Yang, Du Ang, and Li Sanshang. Zhang Yang was soon called away to play accompaniment for the Freshmen Reception. The remaining three decided to drive out for dinner.
On their way, they had a minor collision with a senior student named Ma Xiangyu. Ma Xiangyu exaggerated the damage and demanded 2000 yuan, but Du Ang, refusing to be extorted, only offered 200 yuan, sparking an immediate animosity between them. Later, Lu Qiyi's mother called, informing her that she and her father were coming to campus and that her father insisted on meeting her head teacher.
Panicked, Lu Qiyi confided in Bai Qiao, who suggested they couldn't simply say the teacher was busy as her parents would then go directly to the foreign studies university. After memorizing a fake profile, Bai Qiao met Lu Qiyi's parents at a specialty restaurant, chosen by Lu Qiyi's father to acknowledge Bai Qiao's supposed U. K. education. During dinner, Lu Qiyi's father questioned Bai Qiao about her university (Leicester University) and major (English Literature), even bringing up a medical scholar named Chen Jia’ao who was supposedly an alumnus, which Bai Qiao smoothly sidestepped by claiming different professional fields.
Lu Qiyi’s mother also tried to deduce Bai Qiao’s age and zodiac sign, adding to the tension. While they were dining, Fang Yan received a call from their senior, Li Xiao, asking him to find Lu Qiyi for rehearsal. Fang Yan, unsure who Lu Qiyi was, asked Du Ang to go fetch her. Du Ang entered the private room and announced that Lu Qiyi was needed for rehearsal, almost exposing the lie.
Bai Qiao quickly intervened, clarifying that it was an English play rehearsal, a tradition of Southern Foreign Studies University's English department. Du Ang, catching on, improvised by speaking English, further supporting the fabricated story before excusing himself. Fang Yan, impatient, sent another student to check, who started singing a Mongolian song. Bai Qiao again quickly explained that the student was from the Mongolian Language Department, maintaining the charade. Subsequently, Lu Qiyi's mother went to the restroom and encountered Fang Yan.
Unaware of the intricate lie, Fang Yan innocently chatted with her, sharing that Lu Qiyi was a confident girl who had even slapped an interviewer during her art college admission exam, a widely talked-about incident on campus. Fang Yan also mentioned a performance at the Southern University of the Arts' campus theater the next day, which was part of the Freshmen Reception, and invited Lu Qiyi's mother to attend.
Though shocked by the revelation, Lu Qiyi's mother decided not to expose her daughter immediately. Back at the table, Lu Qiyi's father toasted Bai Qiao, expressing his high hopes for Lu Qiyi to succeed and even study abroad. Bai Qiao subtly tried to guide them towards supporting Lu Qiyi's independence and her true aspirations. After her parents left, a relieved Lu Qiyi thanked Bai Qiao, who reminded her about the upcoming rehearsal.
Lu Qiyi then headed to a school store to buy a dance suit. The enthusiastic salesperson tried to convince her to buy a push-up bra, a moment made awkward by Fang Yan's presence in the same store. Lu Qiyi, embarrassed, ended up buying the bra. She then confronted Fang Yan, reminding him of his "sabotage" during their art college entrance exam, where their melodramatic performance had turned into a comedy, stunning the examiners.
During the rehearsal with Ms. Tang, the body performance teacher, Lu Qiyi was assigned the dance part, while Zhang Yang played piano and Fang Yan sang. Ms. Tang gave Lu Qiyi specific instructions for her dance moves. After a successful rehearsal, Lu Qiyi gave Zhang Yang a gift to thank him for helping her keep her secret from her parents earlier that day.
Fang Yan, observing their interaction, returned to his dorm, only to discover he had accidentally swapped shopping bags with Lu Qiyi, finding the bra among her belongings. On the day of the Freshmen Reception, as Lu Qiyi prepared for her performance, she was already nervous. Fang Yan then informed her that her mother knew about her secret.
