Yang Shu provided a detailed account to Wang Shouyi of how he and Cao Jianjun handled Ms. Ma's call. They had located her villa at the given address, observing her husband's car parked in the yard. Ms. Ma had explicitly stated that her husband suffered from insomnia and that they should only confirm the car's presence, strictly avoiding knocking or calling to prevent disturbing his rest. This instruction was recorded on the police report and signed by her.

After learning that Ms. Ma's husband was found dead in his car this morning, Cao Jianjun attempted to shift blame onto Yang Shu, claiming he was busy on a phone call and Yang Shu should have checked the car. Yang Shu, angered by this evasion of responsibility, was left speechless. Wang Shouyi affirmed that the signed police report clarified their lack of responsibility in the matter.

However, he warned Yang Shu and Cao Jianjun to be prepared, as Ms. Ma was vehemently accusing the police of negligence leading to her husband's death. Wang Shouyi initially intended to handle Ms. Ma alone, taking the report. Yang Shu, however, insisted on accompanying him, stating he had audio recordings of his phone call with Ms. Ma from the scene, where she re-confirmed her instructions. Cao Jianjun tried to interrupt Yang Shu, urging him to defer to the Chief's decision.

Yang Shu, visibly frustrated by Cao Jianjun's reluctance to take responsibility, declared he would go with Wang Shouyi. En route, Wang Shouyi advised Yang Shu to remain calm, explaining that Ms. Ma was likely seeking a scapegoat after her husband's suicide following an argument with her.

Yang Shu clarified his anger was directed at Cao Jianjun's behavior, not Ms. Ma's grief, and assured Wang Shouyi he understood the importance of presenting a united front to the public while resolving internal issues privately. Meanwhile, Li Dawei approached Chen Xincheng to apologize for previous misunderstandings. Chen Xincheng, still visibly upset, sarcastically stated he was no longer Li Dawei's Master and indicated he had his own problems.

Li Dawei earnestly expressed deep regret for his mistakes, acknowledging his inadequate ideological and political awareness and lapse in police responsibility. Chen Xincheng, in turn, teased him about writing a 3,000-word self-criticism. Li Dawei responded that mere reports were useless and that he was ready for any "torture" or "torment" through work to elevate his awareness. Chen Xincheng then handed him a large stack of files to process.

Later, Ms. Ma confronted Wang Shouyi and Yang Shu, accusing the police of irresponsibility and indirectly causing her husband's death by not checking the car. Wang Shouyi presented the signed police report and asked Yang Shu to play the audio recording and show video of his phone call with Ms. Ma from the night of the incident.

The recording clearly captured Ms. Ma confirming that she only needed them to verify her husband's car was in the yard, and to absolutely not knock or call to avoid disturbing his rest. Despite this evidence, Ms. Ma became hysterical, claiming her husband's car was running and they should have heard it and checked, accusing them of "letting him die."

Yang Shu calmly explained that they genuinely hadn't heard the car from outside the locked gate and would never intentionally neglect someone in need. Ms. Ma refused to listen, accusing Wang Shouyi of protecting his officers and threatening to escalate her complaint to higher authorities. Ye Wei anticipated that Ms. Ma would indeed contact superior departments. Wang Shouyi, however, stated that since their officers had acted legally and with a clear conscience, they would face any challenge.

When inspectors from the bureau arrived to investigate the husband's death, Wang Shouyi instructed Cao Jianjun to go and report. Cao Jianjun once again tried to deflect responsibility to Yang Shu, claiming Yang Shu handled the case. Wang Shouyi firmly reminded him that he was the Master and ordered him to comply, which Cao Jianjun reluctantly did.

During the investigation, the inspector reviewed the collected evidence, including the phone recording, and confirmed that the officers' handling of the incident was not improper, although a physical check of the car "would have been better." He acknowledged the difficulty in foreseeing the situation given Ms. Ma's explicit instructions and concluded that there were no wrongdoings.

Cao Jianjun later informed Yang Shu that the matter was resolved and that any responsibility would fall on him, not Yang Shu; Yang Shu responded with sarcasm. At lunchtime, Li Dawei, after being scolded and made to write a 3,000-word self-criticism, chatted with a disheartened Yang Shu. Yang Shu expressed admiration for Li Dawei's optimistic outlook and nonchalant attitude, and Li Dawei revealed that Xia Jie had already moved into their shared apartment, urging Yang Shu to join them soon.

Li Dawei then light-heartedly complained about Chen Xincheng deliberately giving him a massive pile of files, interpreting it as intentional "trickery." Unbeknownst to him, Chen Xincheng was standing behind him and sternly asked if he had finished, threatening him with more work. Wang Shouyi convened an all-officer meeting where Ye Wei announced the "advanced individuals" for the past quarter, including Zhang Zhijie, Yuan Shiqi, Jiang Zhigang, Xia Jie, and Sun Qiancheng.

Wang Shouyi also emphasized the need for new officers to transition from students to qualified police. After the meeting, Cao Jianjun approached Ye Wei, complaining about not being recognized. Ye Wei later reported this to Wang Shouyi, who recognized Cao Jianjun's competitive nature and his tendency to seek glory but deflect blame. Ye Wei attempted to defend Cao Jianjun, explaining the pressure he faced from his mother-in-law, who constantly compared him to his more successful brother-in-law.

Wang Shouyi dismissed this, asserting that Cao Jianjun's personality was the core issue, and that police work should not be about personal ambition or family approval. He tasked Ye Wei with conducting "ideological work" with Cao Jianjun. Earlier, Xia Jie had confided in Cheng Hao about almost being misled into passing a message for Xiang Cuihua's "husband," feeling naive for sympathizing with the woman and her child.

Cheng Hao reassured her that such compassion was natural for a new officer and advised her not to report it to Wang Shouyi. He then revealed that the man was not Xiang Cuihua's husband but a partner in a prostitution ring disguised as a foot therapy center. The arrested man confessed that the "asthma medicine" he sought was actually obscene videos of the exploited girls, used to threaten them into prostitution, and he was trying to locate them.

Cheng Hao reiterated that Xia Jie should not blame herself. Simultaneously, Xia Jie's mother called to congratulate her on being named an "advanced individual," expressing hopes that the recognition would lead to a transfer away from frontline duties to the bureau. Xia Jie, frustrated by her mother's persistent interference in her career, informed her that she had moved out and would only consider returning home once her mother stopped contacting her superiors.

The following morning at the station, Li Dawei questioned the night-duty officer about any incidents, prompting Chen Xincheng to jokingly warn him about being a "jinx" who calls forth cases. True to Chen Xincheng's words, a dog-biting incident in Xiao Xin Zhuang was reported. Chen Xincheng again playfully called Li Dawei a "jinx." Cao Jianjun volunteered to handle the call and departed with Yang Shu and Ding.

Zhao Jiwei expressed envy at Yang Shu's opportunity to go on a call, while Zhang Zhijie took him for community patrolling. Moments later, a report came in about a fight on Bus 323, leading Chen Xincheng to, once more, jokingly call Li Dawei a "jinx" before taking him to the scene. At the dog-biting scene, Cao Jianjun and Yang Shu found Liu Qiang and an elderly man in a heated dispute.

Liu Qiang explained that the elderly man's large, unleashed dog had chased and injured his child, yet the old man was demanding compensation from him. Yang Shu attempted to explain city regulations requiring dog licenses and leashes, but the old man stubbornly refused, claiming it was his "turf" and he could do as he pleased.

Cao Jianjun tried to mediate, suggesting Liu Qiang, as an educated person, should be magnanimous and consider reconciliation, especially since the old man was likely unaccustomed to city life. However, the elderly man remained aggressive, demanding money from Liu Qiang. Amidst the heated exchange, the elderly man suddenly collapsed, prompting Cao Jianjun to rush him to the hospital.

Concurrently, Chen Xincheng and Li Dawei arrived at the Bus 323 station, where an elderly man and Ms. Zhou, who was holding a baby, had been fighting over a seat. After reviewing surveillance footage, Li Dawei immediately identified the elderly man as the aggressor and suggested he be detained. Chen Xincheng reminded him of Clause 3, Article 21 of the Law on Penalties for Administration of Public Security, which prohibits administrative detention for individuals over 70.

He also pointed out that Ms. Zhou had retaliated, legally making it a mutual fight. Li Dawei, frustrated by this legal constraint, learned from the elderly man's senior citizen bus pass that he was 71. Chen Xincheng decided they would both speak with Ms. Zhou. Suddenly, Ms. Zhou's one-year-old child fainted. Chen Xincheng and Li Dawei quickly took the mother and child to the hospital.

The elderly man from the bus, witnessing this, also dramatically collapsed, feigning illness and demanding hospital treatment, insisting Ms. Zhou should pay. Li Dawei suspected he was faking. Coincidentally, Cao Jianjun and Yang Shu arrived at the same hospital with the elderly man from the dog-biting incident. A doctor informed them that the dog-walking elderly man had no health issues whatsoever; his vitals were all normal.

Li Dawei and Yang Shu, realizing they were both handling complicated cases involving difficult elderly individuals, children, and women, briefly exchanged notes on their shared predicament. Soon after, Ms. Zhou's enraged husband arrived at the hospital, attempting to confront the elderly man from the bus.
