Sida informs Ji Mo that he is quitting the entertainment industry, citing exhaustion from the constant scheming and fearful life, and declares he won't be returning. Ji Mo, however, sees through Sida's facade, telling him he is lying and his acting is terrible. He urges Sida not to run away if he truly cares for Du Guruonan, sharing his own past regrets of avoiding problems, which led to immense suffering.

Sida claims he wants to push Du Guruonan away, believing he is a burden and his departure will allow her to forget him, arguing that the pain is only temporary. Ji Mo refutes this, emphasizing that forgetting someone isn't simple and that using "love" as an excuse to leave only causes more pain to the one left behind.

Chen Fei'er visits Dr. Ai Li, detailing her worsening symptoms of binge eating and purging, coupled with new issues like insomnia, anxiety, melancholy, spontaneous crying, urges to hit or smash objects, and compulsive online shopping that brings no joy. Ai Li connects these symptoms to Ji Mo's recent rejection of her.

He explains that her purging stems from deep-seated fear and inferiority, while binge eating signifies a profound lack of security, a phenomenon he terms "to be is to be perceived." He points out that her self-worth is overly dependent on her physical appearance and external validation. Ai Li advises her to focus on self-improvement through exercise and enriching her inner world, stressing the importance of reducing her reliance on external opinions.

When Chen Fei'er tries to hire him as a private psychologist, offering a much higher fee, Ai Li firmly declines, stating his dedication to helping ordinary patients in public hospitals. Chen Fei'er counters that celebrities face even greater pressure and mental health challenges, often needing to hide their struggles. After some persuasion, Ai Li reluctantly agrees to offer private counseling on weekends.

However, upon learning he is single, Chen Fei'er boldly declares that all his after-work hours will now be hers, making him her private psychologist. Ai Li feels an ominous premonition. Later, at a nightclub, Ai Li warns Chen Fei'er against drinking alcohol due to her fragile digestive system, advising her to drink lemon water instead, but she laments the loss of life's pleasures. Sida has left the entertainment industry and is now working as a waiter in a restaurant.

Witnessing Du Guruonan's dejected state, Ji Mo takes her out. At a boxing gym, Ji Mo explains that boxing involves a "reverse movement" – stepping back to generate a powerful punch – drawing a parallel to her current "retreating phase" before a "decisive strike" in her career. Du Guruonan reveals she was a women's boxing champion in college and playfully knocks Ji Mo down.

Later, over a spicy hotpot, Du Guruonan confides that she used to eat extremely spicy food to mask her tears. Ji Mo encourages her to express her sadness freely and simply go find Sida. Du Guruonan expresses her despair, feeling like a broken rubber band and believing Sida's departure was for her own good, but Ji Mo finishes the spicy food to protect her stomach.

He then takes her to a swimming pool, teaching her his unique way of crying underwater, allowing tears to blend with the pool water unnoticed, without the discomfort of hotpot. Moved by his thoughtfulness, Du Guruonan feels re-energized. The next morning, she prepares breakfast for Ji Mo and irons his shirt, thanking him for his support. She declares herself "fully recovered" and resolves to bring Sida back.

She gets Sida's workplace from a neighbor and proceeds to book the entire restaurant. There, she decorates the space with images from forty-one of Sida's previous roles as an extra, meticulously pointing out his dedication and the purity in his performances, from holding his breath as a corpse to the innocent gaze of a disabled child. She reminds him of his past dreams.

Sida tearfully admits he left to prevent further harm to her reputation and career, believing he was a burden. Du Guruonan asserts that without him, she has no reason to continue, and that she is unafraid of scandals or setbacks, but fears his abandonment of his dreams. Sida, deeply affected, confirms his commitment and recites the "artist rules," signifying his return. Du Guruonan, needing funds for Sida's professional teachers, secretly attempts to secure money.

She tries calling Chen Fei'er, then contemplates asking Ji Mo, whom she views as wealthy, but struggles to ask him directly. Ji Mo, overhearing her internal monologue, teases her about her preoccupation with money before deducing she's facing financial difficulties, which she reluctantly confirms. She then goes to the bank, where she learns her account is insufficient due to a prior investment and lack of recent income. The bank suggests a loan against her car or property.

Du Guruonan, taking her property certificate, processes a loan application, assured that her house will remain hers upon timely repayment. That evening, while Ji Mo is meticulously working at the office, his assistant notes his change in behavior, favoring going home over company events, and asks if he still intends to buy Du Guruonan's house, which would force her to move.

Later, Du Guruonan and Ji Mo are in the parking lot, where a minor dispute over a parking spot escalates. Ji Mo explains his private spot was taken, and he was forced to park in a public area. Du Guruonan declines his offer to move his car, instead stating that she won't compete for the parking spot since she believes "the house already belongs to him."

As compensation for waiting for a new spot, she asks him to take her for a drive. They end up at a picturesque riverside, where they gaze at the starry night. Du Guruonan shares her newfound sense of security, realizing it isn't tied to material possessions. After confessing a "bad habit" when drunk, which Ji Mo acknowledges, they share a passionate kiss. They decide to stay the night to watch the sunrise.

The following morning, Ji Mo discovers the bank loan receipt in her car. Enraged, he confronts Du Guruonan, accusing her of being "too much" for mortgaging the house without consulting him, fearing she might have sold it. Du Guruonan defends herself, explaining she was short on money and didn't want to burden him, promising to redeem the house soon.

Ji Mo, however, is fixated on the house, calling her a "big trouble" who disrupts his life and emotions, pushing him to madness, and declares he wants distance from her. Hurt, Du Guruonan lashes out, accusing him of still being unable to forget his ex-girlfriend. Ji Mo is visibly stunned by this accusation. He storms out, driving aimlessly as a painful memory consumes him.

Three years prior, he received a call from Su Xiao's best friend, who urgently told him that Su Xiao was dying in the hospital and implored him to see her one last time.

The friend revealed that Su Xiao had been diagnosed with breast cancer a year ago, initially not severe, and had broken up with Ji Mo, feigning love for someone else, to spare him the pain of her illness because she loved him deeply and her hair had fallen out from treatment. Ji Mo rushed to the hospital but arrived too late; Su Xiao had already passed. Her friend leaves.

Shortly after, Zhao Yucheng enters the empty hospital room and punches Ji Mo, blaming him for his perceived negligence and lack of care towards Su Xiao, despite his supposed expertise in understanding human emotions.
