As she emailed the document and placed her laptop aside, she accidentally knocked over an old savings box. This triggered a painful memory from her childhood: seeing her mother's body being wheeled away covered in a white sheet. A little boy had given her his savings box, telling her to buy her mother a new heart so she wouldn't die. He explained that his own heart was defective and the money was for him to buy a new one.

These valves, grown from a patient's own cells, are living, have the capacity to grow, do not require medication, and are resistant to degeneration and calcification, essentially functioning like a natural part of the body.
