> Resumos de About Love
Li Xiaoxi has always felt like a character in a pre-written play, noting that every time she met a friend's boyfriend, they would inevitably try to flirt with her. Rather than remaining a passive observer in this recurring drama, she decided to use this to help other women by testing the loyalty of their partners. A woman who had been with her boyfriend for six years reached out to Xiaoxi for help.
Despite her boyfriend recently proposing, the woman wanted to be certain of his fidelity. When she asked if Xiaoxi planned to investigate him, Xiaoxi explained that her mere presence would be enough to reveal his true character. The woman insisted on seeing proof of his intentions, though Xiaoxi made it clear that she would never cross the line into physical intimacy. Xiaoxi manufactured a meeting with the boyfriend, Mr. Zhang, who worked as a planning director for a travel agency.
Pretending to be an intern from the same building, she expressed interest in a customized romantic tour to places like Lijiang and Nepal. Mr. Zhang was quickly charmed, even mentioning internal discounts he could provide. Despite admitting he was getting married soon, his attraction to Xiaoxi grew rapidly. While driving her one evening, he confessed that he had fallen for her completely and shamelessly, claiming he couldn't bear to be without her and wanted her immediately.
Unbeknownst to him, his girlfriend was listening to the exchange via a recorder. She confronted him with the evidence and ended their six-year relationship on the spot. Later, Xiaoxi went to a bar to unwind and noticed a man named Xiao Bei sitting alone. She approached him, but he politely declined her company, explaining he was waiting for a friend. He soon received a call from a friend with the surname Gong, who had stood him up.
Their interaction was interrupted when a woman arrived at the bar to confront her own cheating boyfriend, only to be physically assaulted by him. Xiaoxi immediately stepped in to help, arguing that while cheating was a moral failing, hitting a woman was a legal offense. When the man tried to turn his aggression toward Xiaoxi, Xiao Bei intervened to protect her, encouraging the crowd to film the man’s behavior. As they left the bar, the heel of Xiaoxi’s shoe snapped.
Xiao Bei drove up in his car and offered her a pair of brand-new slippers that a friend had given him. He insisted on driving her home, noting that it was late and unsafe for her to be out alone in such a state. Upon arriving at her place, Xiaoxi offered to buy him a coffee in return for his help.
When Xiao Bei playfully asked if she usually invited people to her home for coffee, she clarified she meant the cafe downstairs. To stay in touch, they exchanged WeChat contact information, with Xiao Bei letting Xiaoxi scan his code so he could be the one to decide "whether it passes or not." Soon after, a wealthy man sought Xiaoxi’s services. He showed her a photo of his daughter's boyfriend, convinced the man was not genuinely in love with her.
He asked Xiaoxi to test the man’s loyalty, hoping his daughter would marry someone who truly cherished her. Xiaoxi agreed to the task, maintaining her principle of testing a heart's leanings rather than intentionally destroying a relationship. Meanwhile, Xiaoxi found herself thinking more about Xiao Bei. She mentioned him to her friend Yingtao, noting that he seemed different from other men she had encountered.
Xiaoxi eventually posted a photo of her coffee on social media, which prompted Xiao Bei to remind her of her promise to treat him. They arranged to meet the following day. When they saw each other again, Xiao Bei revealed that he had taken her broken heels to a cobbler to be fixed, believing that comfortable, broken-in shoes were better than new ones. When Xiaoxi realized she had forgotten to bring back his slippers, he told her to keep them.
Xiao Bei mentioned he hadn't been out for fun in a long time because he was usually tied up at his luxury authentication shop, so they visited an archery range together. He challenged her to a match, suggesting the winner should choose where they ate dinner. Although Xiaoxi hadn't officially agreed to dinner yet, she accepted the challenge and won. During their meal, they engaged in a deep conversation about relationships.
They discussed the legal and moral obligations of saving a loved one versus a parent, and Xiaoxi shared her skepticism regarding easy vows. They found common ground in their appreciation for the writer Raymond Carver, toasting to his somber views on how love is often just a memory.
