Han Shuang, however, quickly warned Mark against interrupting.
Xu Cheng Yi then eloquently shared their story, recalling how he first met Xia Yan three years ago during a dark period in his life. He described her as a "little sun" who helped him overcome his depression, expressing his gratitude for having met such a girl and his determination not to lose her again. He promised to take on the responsibility of protecting her, assuring her friends that they could entrust Xia Yan to him.
Despite his heartfelt words, Han Shuang sternly warned Xu Cheng Yi that if he ever hurt Xia Yan, she and their friends would hold him accountable. Mark inquired about Xia Yan's neck injury. Xia Yan explained that she was in an elevator when her bag got caught in the closing doors, causing the strap to choke her. Fortunately, Ling Wei saved her.
Mark, recognizing the name Ling Wei, expressed apprehension for Xia Yan's future, an opinion that quickly sparked a playful disagreement with Han Shuang. Later, in the kitchen, Mark questioned Xu Cheng Yi about Ling Wei's unexpected return. Xu Cheng Yi admitted he was also shocked when she contacted him, confessing that the surprise even led him to get into a car accident after her call. Meanwhile, Ma Xiangnan also discussed Ling Wei with Xia Yan, suspecting potential complications.
Xia Yan revealed that Ling Wei was Xu Cheng Yi's ex-girlfriend. Xia Yan initially viewed Ling Wei as someone who had betrayed others, believing she was long gone from Xu Cheng Yi's life. However, after working with Ling Wei, Xia Yan found her to be exceptionally capable and a strong professional collaborator with Xu Cheng Yi. Ling Wei's forthright character and long history with Xu Cheng Yi made Xia Yan feel inferior, worrying if Xu Cheng Yi might compare them.
Ma Xiangnan reassured Xia Yan, affirming that she was unique and excellent in her own way. Mark sought out Ma Xiangnan to discuss Han Shuang. Mark confessed that while he feels like a "mouse seeing a cat" around Han Shuang, he also misses her intensely when they are apart, experiencing a racing heart and a dazed state, feeling as if he's "falling into a little whirlpool of love."
He explained that Han Shuang had recently moved into his house and he was unsure how to navigate their dynamic. Ma Xiangnan, who had already heard from Han Shuang about their intimacy, teased Mark about his newfound embarrassment. She then offered sincere advice, encouraging him to treat Han Shuang well and expressing her hope that their relationship would work out, believing it was a good decision for both of them.
Lin Hao invited Zhao Xiaolei out for dinner, presenting her with flowers for Teachers' Day, acknowledging her dream of becoming a teacher. They discussed Zhao Xiaolei's academic aspirations, her desire to pursue further studies, and her family's financial situation. Lin Hao encouraged her to persist in achieving her dreams and offered his support if she encountered any difficulties. Zhao Xiaolei then cautiously shared that Xia Yan was now dating Xu Cheng Yi.
Lin Hao was visibly shocked, trembling and accidentally spilling juice on Zhao Xiaolei's clothes. I'd like to bathe in tomorrow's sunshine with you. Lin Hao." Zhao Xiaolei was taken aback and hesitant. She suggested they could be friends but couldn't be his girlfriend, proposing they stop contacting each other. Lin Hao agreed to her suggestion of starting as friends and promised to listen to her, but as he drove her home, he secretly slipped his wallet into her bag.
Back home, Zhao Xiaolei pondered Lin Hao's confession, surprised by the turn of events as she had always admired him. She considered his excellent qualities and whether to accept his feelings. Han Shuang expressed concerns to Xia Yan about Ling Wei being Xu Cheng Yi's ex-girlfriend, warning her not to be swayed simply because Ling Wei saved her. Xia Yan, however, had a different perspective. She felt that Ling Wei's actions during the elevator incident proved her kindness.
She also reaffirmed her trust in Xu Cheng Yi's love, recalling his palpable fear and shaking hands when he hugged her after the incident, which solidified her certainty of his affection. Han Shuang still pointed out Ling Wei's unique charm and impressive professional abilities. Later, Han Shuang invited Zhao Xiaolei to join her and Xia Yan for dinner, but Zhao Xiaolei declined, citing academic work and numerous documents to sort out as a professor's assistant.
After Zhao Xiaolei left, Han Shuang discovered Lin Hao's wallet and the love card in Zhao Xiaolei's belongings. Recognizing the wallet from a gift she bought for Lin Hao, Han Shuang immediately took it and the card to Xia Yan, intending to confront Zhao Xiaolei. Concurrently, Lin Hao called Zhao Xiaolei, pretending he had accidentally left his wallet in her bag after paying the restaurant bill the previous day and asking her to look for it.
He said he would come to retrieve it that afternoon. Zhao Xiaolei began searching for it. Meanwhile, Lin Hao's company faced difficulties, and his colleague resorted to obtaining a rival company's confidential plan to secure a project, which Lin Hao was hesitant to use. Zhao Xiaolei's brother, Zhao Xiaojun, called her, noticing Lin Hao's depressed state and asking if they had quarreled. Zhao Xiaolei clarified that they were not dating and that she had rejected his confession.
Han Shuang and Xia Yan then went to Zhao Xiaolei's apartment. Han Shuang, furious after finding Lin Hao’s wallet and the love note, confronted Zhao Xiaolei about possibly violating her own "ten prohibitions" rule of not getting involved with a friend's boyfriend. Zhao Xiaolei tried to explain, defending Lin Hao and arguing that his past with Xia Yan was a misunderstanding.
Han Shuang accused Lin Hao of being a "scumbag," citing his past affair and manipulative behavior, and questioned Zhao Xiaolei's judgment. Xia Yan interjected, supporting Han Shuang's assessment of Lin Hao, recalling how he became calculating and measured relationships by interests after his time in Beijing, which led him to suspect her relationship with Xu Cheng Yi. Xia Yan stressed that Lin Hao was no longer the person they once knew.
Zhao Xiaolei, however, insisted that Xia Yan misunderstood him and that he hadn’t changed. Han Shuang pressed Zhao Xiaolei, questioning if she could bear to tear up Lin Hao's card, a challenge Zhao Xiaolei struggled with. Finally, Zhao Xiaolei admitted that she "used to like him" before Lin Hao and Xia Yan began dating, but had buried those feelings once they became a couple, implying she had respected the boundaries of their friendship.
