Bu Nian, a gray-eyed maiden with a unique constitution, has lived under the protection of the Goddess of Zhaoyao Mountain. One day, she rescues Xue Yiyang, a gravely wounded general who has lost his memory. As they fall in love, Bu Nian makes a solemn vow to the Goddess to heal him—on the condition that he must leave the mountain forever.
Heartbroken but determined, Bu Nian descends the mountain to find Xue Yiyang, only to discover he has no memory of her. Mistaking her for a spy, he treats her coldly, yet she silently cares for him, rekindling their love. When Xue Yiyang is tasked with quelling a rebellion, Bu Nian foresees his peril and disguises herself as a man to join his campaign. Using her prophetic abilities, she aids him at great personal cost.
After their triumphant return, Xue Fu, a vengeful foe, kidnaps Bu Nian to exploit her powers. That night, Xue Yiyang regains his full memories and rescues her, vowing to make amends. But when Xue Fu retaliates by setting Zhaoyao Mountain ablaze, the Goddess forces Xue Yiyang to swear eternal love to Bu Nian to save her life.
As her clan faces annihilation, Bu Nian awakens to her true destiny: she was born to protect her people. Torn between love and duty, she makes the ultimate sacrifice—erasing Xue Yiyang’s memories once more and transforming into the sacred Migu Tree to guide her people to safety, becoming one with the mountain forever.
