The box in the weaving workshop is opened to reveal a bound Wei Qing. He has just enough time to vent his anger at Wu Shiguang for the kidnapping before he begins coughing up blood and falls unconscious. After an examination, Ji Ling determines that Wei Qing has been victimized by a slow-acting poison administered over a long period.

Since his own magical ring is down to only ten percent of its power, Ji Ling cannot purge the toxin himself and insists they must find an antidote immediately. Ji Ling later tends to a deep wound on Lu Wuyi's neck using a specialized gold wound powder from the Shilin Sect. Lu Wuyi, who is secretly searching for her destined partner, takes advantage of the situation by letting him treat her, using her charms to fluster the young demon hunter.

Ji Ling, momentarily distracted by her gaze, struggles to maintain his composure while he finishes the task. The group gathers in the front hall to explain their presence. Luo Wei admits she was the one who secretly hired Wu Shiguang to pose as the groom, hoping his presence would lure the fox demon out of hiding. Wu Wangyan defends herself against accusations of being the killer by producing a severed tail of a nine-tailed fox.

She explains that she has been using the tail's connection to its owner to track the real demon, a fox named Xiaowei. Wu Wangyan reveals that Xiaowei was saved by a mortal a thousand years ago and has since become obsessed with finding his reincarnation, who she believes is Wei Qing. To maintain her human form and her power, Xiaowei has been ripping out hearts.

Because Wei Qing is in love with the embroideress Yu Shengwei, Xiaowei is now intent on murdering her rival. While the others discuss the demon, Liu Weixue remains slumped over, completely incapacitated by drink. Wu Shiguang declares that everyone is a suspect and forbids anyone from leaving the Wei mansion until the killer is caught.

When Luo Wei protests that she must tend to the family's fabric business, Wu Shiguang proposes using a Blood Binding Seal so he can track anyone who tries to flee. As the seal takes hold, a secondary, far more dangerous mark appears on the palms of Wu Shiguang, Wu Wangyan, Lu Wuyi, Ji Ling, and Li Jie.

They realize Xiaowei has outsmarted them by cursing the wedding gift registry; anyone who entered the mansion without an offering is now afflicted with a death curse. The mark resembles a moon phase that will slowly wane, stripping away their five senses one by one until they perish. Lu Wuyi is forced to awkwardly claim she brought no gift because her family is poor.

With the hunters now dying, the list of suspects is narrowed down to Luo Wei, Yu Shengwei, and Liu Weixue, as they are the only ones without the curse. Wu Shiguang sets up a barrier around the mansion while his companion You Chi analyzes the suspects. Although Liu Weixue's behavior is odd, Wu Shiguang views him more as a pathetic, unrequited lover than a killer.

Meanwhile, the relationship between Luo Wei and Yu Shengwei seems suspicious, as they appear to be providing each other with alibis for the night of the murders. The effects of the death curse soon become apparent as the cursed five lose their sense of touch and pain.

Wu Wangyan warns her sister not to take Wu Shiguang lightly, noting that the Twelve Thoughts prayer beads on his wrist are a formidable artifact forged from the blood of twelve different types of sinners. She also expresses suspicion toward Ji Ling, wondering how someone without inherent power could command such loyalty from the Shilin Sect leader, Li Jie. Ji Ling and Li Jie eventually sneak into Luo Wei’s quarters to search for evidence and find Lu Wuyi already there.

Ji Ling hides in a cabinet to avoid detection, but Lu Wuyi discovers him and delivers a sharp slap to his face, claiming she thought he was a thief. They soon confirm that Luo Wei was an orphan raised by a woman skilled in the use of toxins, giving her a clear motive and the means to poison Wei Qing. After finding the antidote in a hidden box, they rush to Wei Qing and save his life.

Upon waking, Wei Qing is devastated to hear of Luo Wei's betrayal. To follow the lead of a love talisman found on one of the victims, Wu Shiguang and Wu Wangyan travel to Weimiao Pavilion. On the prayer tree outside, Wu Wangyan notices the names of the wives of the men killed in the heart-ripping cases.

Inside the pavilion, an attendant informs them that the deity is away but offers a talisman if they provide a donation and write down a deep secret. The attendant quickly realizes Wu Wangyan is lying about her secret and tries to dismiss them. Wu Shiguang responds by binding the man, while Wu Wangyan uses her Fox-Allure Spell to force a confession.

The attendant reveals that their talismans are cursed with a Fox-Allure Spell; they ensure a lover's devotion, but if the person who requested the charm ever changes their mind or destroys the talisman, the partner suffers a horrific backlash. They are overcome by an uncontrollable agony that forces them to rip out their own heart.
