Lin Zhenhui covertly leads Cheng Cheng into Jiang Yuanxing's room through a back entrance, bringing with her some porridge and candles while subtly removing Jiang Yuanxing's phone. Jiang Yuanxing is deeply upset upon seeing Cheng Cheng, angrily demanding that he leave and expressing her profound resentment for deceit.

She confronts him about hiding the truth regarding his DNA test with her razor, accusing him of trampling her dignity and pride, especially after Gao Guangyi had told her to leave Jiangyang, implying she would lose everything important to her. Cheng Cheng tearfully pleads for her forgiveness, insisting that he truly loves her and never intended to lie.

He explains that he had genuinely believed Gao Guangyi to be his biological father, as Cheng Dawei, his foster father, had adopted him. Hearing this, Jiang Yuanxing gradually softens, understanding his difficult circumstances. She ultimately forgives him, and they share an intimate moment, during which he promises to protect her forever. Later that night, a mysterious assailant infiltrates the room, incapacitating Cheng Cheng with an electroshock weapon, causing him to fall into the river.

The attacker then chokes Jiang Yuanxing into unconsciousness before setting the room ablaze. Mercifully, her unconscious state meant she inhaled less smoke, which saved her life. Although severely burned, Jiang Yuanxing is rushed to the hospital. Captain Shi Qing of the Jiangyang Criminal Unit takes charge of the investigation into the Kairoutei arson. Evidence points to intentional arson with alcohol accelerants. Surveillance footage shows Li Hao entering Jiang Yuanxing's room at 1:03 AM and not reappearing.

Subsequently, Li Hao's body is recovered from the river, and an autopsy confirms he drowned with a high alcohol content in his system. During questioning, Shi Qing notes Jiang Yuanxing's intense emotional reaction to the news of Cheng Cheng's disappearance, contrasting it with her mere surprise at Li Hao's death. The police also learn that Cheng Cheng and Li Hao grew up together in the Aimin Orphanage and that Cheng Cheng had lived in Li Hao's rented apartment.

They consider the possibility that Cheng Cheng is Gao Guangyi's illegitimate son, whom Jiang Yuanxing was tasked to find. Lawyer Gu Tao visits Jiang Yuanxing, informing her that Gao Guangyi designated her as a witness to his will, meaning both she and Cheng Cheng must be present for its official announcement. Jiang Yuanxing is visibly distressed by the realization of Cheng Cheng's absence. Later, Teng Jun directly asks Jiang Yuanxing for her support to become the next chairman of Hongye.

When she refuses, he warns her by revealing the evil deeds the Gao family had done to Qixing Town. Overwhelmed by her severe injuries, the fire, and the barrage of new revelations and threats, Jiang Yuanxing decides to disappear. She discreetly leaves the hospital and takes a taxi to Jiangbei Port. The police, tracing her movements, find a taxi driver who reports seeing a woman in a hospital gown jump into the river around 11:30 PM.

Surveillance confirms Jiang Yuanxing's presence at the port. Given her extensive burn injuries, authorities conclude she could not have survived the leap. Downstream, a male corpse, estimated to be around 50 years old, is found. His identity is unconfirmed due to lack of fingerprints in the database. Forensics indicate he drowned several hours before the Kairoutei arson, and his right leg was dislocated from impact.

No identification was found on him, only a small amount of cash, and a distinctive mark on his left fingernails suggests they were ground against a hard surface. The police also discover that a loan shark known as Hao, who had previously sought Cheng Cheng, is now in custody. The hospital announces Gao Guangyi's death, gathering the Gao family, though Teng Jun is conspicuously absent, with Gao Shiyao claiming he is busy.

The family immediately pressures Lawyer Gu Tao to disclose the will. However, Gu Tao states that the conditions for its announcement have not yet been met. He explains that Gao Guangyi stipulated that both Jiang Yuanxing, as a witness, and Cheng Cheng, as a beneficiary, must be present. If these conditions remain unfulfilled after 90 days, the will can then be publicly read.

Gao Hongjie attempts to dissuade his son, Gao Zijian, from pursuing the chairmanship, questioning his ability to handle such a significant responsibility and suggesting he would be better off simply collecting shares as a director. Gao Zijian, feeling underestimated and noting his father's implied preference for Gao Hongzhi, vehemently insists on contending for the chairmanship himself, refusing to rely on his mother for power.

The family resigns itself to the inevitable internal power struggle over the inheritance and leadership, exacerbated by the Hongye Group's stock plummeting after the Kairoutei fire. Police note Teng Jun's absence from Kairoutei on the night of the fire, making him a person of interest. Cheng Cheng, having survived his fall into the river and been rescued by a boatman, begins to recover.

However, learning of Jiang Yuanxing's disappearance deeply affects him, igniting a fierce determination to uncover the truth and avenge her. He suspects Lin Zhenhui played a pivotal role and believes she holds crucial information. Cheng Cheng contacts Gao Zijian, who is shocked to discover he is alive. Cheng Cheng proposes a partnership, offering to relinquish all his claims to Gao Guangyi's inheritance as a show of good faith. Gao Zijian accepts the offer.

Cheng Cheng then outlines three conditions for their alliance: first, the Swan Charity Project must be maintained; second, Gao Zijian must help him investigate Lin Zhenhui; and third, they must work together to expose and lure out the true mastermind behind all the recent events. The police state that they will inform Gao Zijian immediately if Jiang Yuanxing is found.
