Sinopsis
During the War of Resistance Against Japan, the Japanese army invaded the Hangu Pass in western Henan, attempting to open a key route westward. Cai Baozi, a member of the Chinese Communist Party, returns to his hometown to organize resistance. He falls into grave danger and, misunderstood and framed, ends up in prison.
In prison, he gets to know two local leaders of swordsmen. Through his courage and vision, he resolves their grudges and brings people together. He moves between different groups, uniting swordsmen, patriotic soldiers and officers, and local villagers, rallying all forces to form an anti-Japanese contingent.
Using the geographical advantages of the loess tableland, the group fights guerrilla warfare against the Japanese army—making use of sunken courtyards, narrow mountain paths, and perilous passes to fiercely resist the invaders. Putting aside personal grievances and uniting in a common cause against the enemy, they fight bloodily to defend their homeland. Their story becomes a legendary tale of the courageous resistance of the people of western Henan.
