At the Yunan University assembly, in front of Wen Zhe, Wen Yiduo gave an impassioned final speech. On the way back, Wen Yiduo was assassinated by a Nationalist Party spy and unfortunately passed away. Wen Lihe was shot five times while protecting his father. To prevent further speculation, Zhou Hongzhang put all the blame on Wen Zhe for the assassination, making him a scapegoat and ultimately leading to his arrest and execution.
