> Resúmenes de Ordinary Greatness
Wang Shouyi presented Mr. Sun's children with video recordings and body camera footage, concluding that their father was fully responsible for the incident as he walked his dog without a leash, frightening a child and leading to the fall due to his personal health. Despite the clear evidence, the children were unconvinced, accusing Wang Shouyi of bias and asking, "Why do you always take their side? What did you get out of them?" When pressed for proof, they became defensive.
Wang Shouyi instructed them to pursue legal action for their father's medical expenses and to sign the Findings of Fact. However, they refused to sign, demanding of the police, "Why not sign? The fact is established. Why haven't you given me an answer on how to handle it?" They declared their intention to resolve the matter directly with the Liu family, saying, "If that's what the police believe, why are we here?
Why don't we just go straight to their house? . . . He fell because he fought with them. They should pay for the medical bills. Let's block their doors. Thus, they can't get home. If it doesn't work, we can drop him off at his place. Let's see what he'll do." Shortly after, Mr. Sun, who had been lying on a door panel, stood up and left with his children, threatening to go to Liu Qiang’s home for money.
Cao Jianjun and Yang Shu returned to the Balihe Police Station and witnessed this scene. Wang Shouyi chastised Cao Jianjun for mishandling the situation, remarking, "Yesterday I said you were good at solving complex problems. So you didn't take it seriously? . . . A whole bunch of people came in here with their teeth and claws out this morning. Did you have an estimate?" He suspected the family's true motive was to extort money.
Wang Shouyi instructed Cao Jianjun and Yang Shu to calm the Liu couple and advise them to move out for a while if necessary, preparing for "a long war." He also assigned Cheng Hao to investigate Mr. Sun's social connections within the community and coordinate with the relevant police stations to prevent further escalation. Meanwhile, Chen Xincheng visited Wang Jianguo at the hospital.
A doctor urged him to pay Wang Jianguo's treatment fees, emphasizing, "You can't just leave him in our hospital. . . He eats, drinks and defecates on the bed. What should we do?" Chen Xincheng called Li Dawei, instructing him to come to the hospital immediately. Li Dawei, who was waiting downstairs at Wang Gang’s house, finally encountered Wang Gang.
Li Dawei tried to persuade Wang Gang to visit his father, informing him, "Your father is in the hospital with cirrhosis. You are the only family he has left. Even if you get rid of me today, someone else will come to you. So you'd better come with us." Wang Gang responded curtly, "I don't have a father."
Li Dawei explained that their private agreement to break off their relationship would not supersede legal maintenance obligations, and the court would likely still impose them. Wang Gang remained defiant, inviting Li Dawei to "arrest me," then walked away, stating he had to go to work. Cao Jianjun and Yang Shu arrived at Liu Qiang’s apartment building to find Mr. Sun’s children and others causing a disturbance at Liu Qiang’s door, which was covered in spilled paint.
The Liu family was terrified. Upon seeing the police, Mr. Sun's family quickly scattered. Cao Jianjun and Yang Shu pursued them to the parking lot. Yang Shu confronted them, saying, "You spilled paint upstairs at Liu's house. You are destroying public property." However, they adamantly denied any wrongdoing, demanding proof, "You didn't see it? You didn't see it. How could you say we spilled paint at their house? . . . Do you have any proof?"
They accused the police of framing good people. Yang Shu warned them against committing crimes, but they dismissed the warning, telling the officers, "If you have proof, come here, cuff us. If not, I'm sorry, get out of my way." They then brazenly walked off, leaving Cao Jianjun and Yang Shu frustrated. Li Dawei rushed to the hospital. Chen Xincheng, dealing with Wang Jianguo's medical insurance, left Li Dawei to care for Wang Jianguo.
Li Dawei found Wang Jianguo incontinent, having soiled his bed. Despite his discomfort, Li Dawei diligently cleaned him, changed his sheets, and fed him porridge. He muttered to Wang Jianguo, "Sir, you were fine when you hit someone. Why are you incontinent now?" Meanwhile, Cao Jianjun and Yang Shu reviewed security footage from Liu Qiang’s route but found no useful leads, as Mr. Sun’s family had cunningly avoided the cameras.
Wang Shouyi called Cao Jianjun, stressing the urgency, "The masses can't lead normal lives. Their safety can't be guaranteed. We are failing in our duty to allow them to live in such a state of panic. This must not happen again." Cao Jianjun expressed his frustration, "I'm ashamed of myself. I wish I had all the Sun family members in custody right now." Wang Shouyi urged him to find a civil breakthrough to achieve reconciliation quickly.
While on the phone, Cao Jianjun received a call from Cheng Hao and promptly hung up on Wang Shouyi. Cheng Hao and Xia Jie traveled to Majiagou Police Station, Mr. Sun’s local precinct, to investigate. Chief Liang informed them that Mr. Sun's two sons were involved in gang activities, and his second son-in-law was a drug addict—a significant lead.
Chief Liang then attempted to persuade Cheng Hao to transfer to Majiagou Police Station, saying, "You'll lose at least five years of your life. Come to our station. We can be partners." Cheng Hao politely declined, asserting his loyalty, "I'm not a fickle person. We have our own fun." Upon learning that Xia Jie was the daughter of his former Master, Xia Junxiong, Chief Liang affectionately recalled her father and asked Cheng Hao to take good care of her.
During lunch, Wang Shouyi received a call from the hospital, once again demanding payment for Wang Jianguo's hospitalization fees. Chen Xincheng's repeated attempts to resolve Wang Jianguo's medical insurance issues had been unsuccessful. Recognizing the dire situation, Wang Shouyi initiated a collection at the station, stating, "I'd like to start a fundraiser at the station. Pay for his hospitalization first." He appealed to everyone, "Think of it as taking care of your own father, okay?
If your father is in the hospital, aren't you going to pay the bill?" Some officers were hesitant, arguing, "We don't have a father like that. . . . His son leaves him alone. Why should we take care of him?" Wang Shouyi then led by example, donating over a thousand yuan, explaining, "We're not doing this for him. We do it for our job, okay?" Chen Xincheng also contributed all the money he had.
Other officers followed suit, with Zhao Jiwei reluctantly donating fifty yuan. After lunch, Zhao Jiwei visited Li Dawei at the hospital. Li Dawei complained about the unpleasant task of caring for Wang Jianguo. Zhao Jiwei humorously suggested, "If you don't take photos, how can the boss see it? You even took care of his shit. This is a once-in-a-century opportunity." Li Dawei declined. Zhao Jiwei then shared information he had found about Wang Jianguo's past.
He showed Li Dawei photos revealing a history of domestic violence, explaining, "Wang Gang reported the crime every time. Wang Jianguo beat his wife when he drank too much. It has been years. He deafened the old lady in one ear." Li Dawei was enraged by this revelation, stating, "He deserves to be left alone. . . . If I were him, I wouldn't come." He finally understood Wang Gang’s resentment.
Seeing Li Dawei’s exhaustion, Zhao Jiwei offered to take over, suggesting, "You go back. I'll do it for you. Take a shower and change your clothes." He explained his motivation: "I only donated 50 yuan. I have no money. But I have the strength. The rich can contribute money. The strong can contribute labour." Li Dawei, touched by Zhao Jiwei’s sincerity, agreed to stay with him at the hospital.
Li Dawei then called Chen Xincheng to report Wang Jianguo's history of domestic violence, only to find that Chen Xincheng was already aware. Chen Xincheng further revealed that Wang Gang was a driver for bus route 323, making Li Dawei realize that Wang Jianguo had deliberately caused trouble on Wang Gang's bus. That night, Wang Shouyi convened a meeting with the leadership of the Balihe Police Station to discuss Mr. Sun and Liu Qiang's dispute.
He suggested attempting reconciliation between the two families. Just as the meeting was concluding, Chief Liang from Majiagou Police Station arrived, bringing with him incriminating evidence of the Sun family's criminal activities. Wang Shouyi proposed a joint operation between the two police stations to dismantle the Sun family's gang. Earlier in the meeting, Cao Jianjun had expressed his frustration about Wang Shouyi's suggestion for reconciliation, "They shouted, abused, and destroyed public and private property.
What's the difference between them and the underworld? You even asked me to reconcile them?" Gao Chao supported him, stating, "You've never relented before with a bully like this. Why can't you punish the family this time?" Wang Shouyi then reminded them of the Liu couple's predicament, living in "fear" and having "their life is hell." He urged them to prioritize the immediate well-being of the Liu family before focusing on the larger criminal investigation.
Later, Li Dawei tracked down Wang Gang to a noodle shop, knowing his habit of eating there after finishing his bus route. Li Dawei again attempted to persuade Wang Gang to take responsibility for his father's medical treatment. He shared his own complicated relationship with his father, admitting, "My dad is a jerk, too. . . . He never told my mom the truth. . . . I almost took my uniform off again because of something my father did."
Li Dawei explained his persistence by stating he was fulfilling his duty. Wang Gang, visibly emotional, then recounted his father’s long history of abuse towards his mother: "He's always picking on my mom for no reason. . . . He hit my mom when he was drank. . . . He got my mom on her knees and beat her in front of my kid." Overwhelmed, Wang Gang left the shop in tears.
As he departed, Li Dawei called out to him, reminding him that both incidents involving Wang Jianguo occurred on bus route 323—Wang Gang's route. Li Dawei watched Wang Gang leave, contemplating the complexities of father-son relationships. Outside the noodle shop, Chen Xincheng was waiting for him.
