A Zhai, a 21-year-old male, is a computer hacker majoring in automation engineering and minoring in programming. He introduces himself as the male lead, sharing that he lives a simple life, growing up with his grandfather and now protecting their inherited home after his grandfather's passing. His days revolve around reading manga and playing video games, alongside caring for stray animals and frequently daydreaming about Pei Ni, the school's anime club goddess and top cosplayer.

A Zhai has harbored a secret crush on Pei Ni for two years, admiring her as the dream girl of every guy in school. As her "loyal Hei Zi" (a background character in a play), he longs for a scene with her, even if it's just one line, but the perceived distance between them makes him hesitant to confess his feelings.

A Zhai incidentally learns that Pei Ni will be going to Japan, a country where he briefly lived as a child. Imagining Pei Ni going to a foreign land alone, A Zhai decides to follow her there, hoping to bring her warmth and confess his feelings. Filled with anticipation, A Zhai travels to Japan, but upon arrival, his hopes are dashed.

He sees Pei Ni saying a heartfelt goodbye to a tall, handsome man from afar, and realizes he has come too late. Heartbroken, A Zhai drowns his sorrows in a local bar, drinking heavily. In a drunken haze, he stumbles upon a peculiar shop called "Love Robots" at a street corner. Driven by curiosity, he enters, observing various strange models, until a pink rabbit greets him. The next morning, A Zhai wakes up with a terrible hangover.

He discovers a huge box in his yard and vaguely remembers acquiring it from the "Love Robots" store while he was drinking and playing with the pink rabbit the previous night. As he approaches the box, he hears a voice. He hesitantly calls out "Ya Dang?" and the box confirms voice control activation. From inside the box, a nearly naked man named Ya Dang emerges.

A Zhai bombards him with questions, demanding to know who he is and why he was in the box. Ya Dang calmly states he has "locked in" with A Zhai and confirms a successful "binding" after scanning him. Ya Dang then declares they must perform a "kissing ritual," explaining it as a future social etiquette that love robots use to quickly foster intimacy with their masters by eliminating awkwardness.

A Zhai, horrified and panicking, shouts at Ya Dang to put on some clothes and not to approach him, threatening to call the police. He tries to escape, bumping his head. Ya Dang, concerned by the injury, attempts to clean A Zhai's wound. A Zhai, still frantic and confused, begs Ya Dang to leave him alone and insists he put on clothes before they can talk.

Taking advantage of the moment Ya Dang starts to dress, A Zhai flees the house. Ya Dang, after donning a Hanfu he found near the door, pursues A Zhai. Ignoring the curious stares and bewildered comments from passersby about him carrying another man, Ya Dang scoops up an exhausted and nearly collapsed A Zhai and rushes him to a hospital for treatment, stating that A Zhai's alcohol content is dangerously high.

After waking up in the hospital, A Zhai learns from Ya Dang that he is a custom-made "Love Type Robot" from the future, purchased by A Zhai himself. A Zhai, incredulous, checks his bank card, only to find his entire life savings have been spent. Outraged and disbelieving, A Zhai accuses Ya Dang of lying and threatens him with the police. Ya Dang calmly reiterates that he will follow A Zhai wherever he goes, as he was bought.

A Zhai, now desperate, drags Ya Dang back to the "Love Type Robots" store. At the store, A Zhai confronts the pink rabbit, demanding a refund. However, the pink rabbit presents A Zhai's order, complete with his fingerprint, making it clear there are no returns for "impulsive consumption behavior," even if he was drunk.

The rabbit then shows A Zhai the tablet used for customization, revealing that A Zhai himself had drunkenly configured a male, "overbearing" CEO-type robot with high attractiveness and a strong physique. Furious, A Zhai threatens to blacklist the store and call the embassy, but the pink rabbit remains firm. A Zhai then tries to appeal, acknowledging the advanced technology but emphasizing he is a straight man.

The pink rabbit explains the origin of the "Love Robots": in 50 years, facing a widespread problem of single individuals, over a hundred computer hackers (including a future version of A Zhai, who is one of the initiators) developed "Black Technology" to create these customized robots. However, as these founders aged, they regretted not experiencing passionate love in their youth.

To rectify this, they developed another technology to send "Love Robots" back in time to their younger selves, allowing them to enjoy love in their prime. Still focused on his lost savings and current predicament, A Zhai tries to bargain for an exchange, demanding a female robot. When refused, he dramatically threatens to harm himself, arguing that his death would disrupt the future success of their "Black Technology" by making them short one of their hundred creators.

Panicked, the pink rabbit concedes, offering A Zhai a second-hand female robot, originally intended for himself. A Zhai immediately pulls out his phone, showing Pei Ni's picture, and asks the pink rabbit to customize the new robot to look like her and have it delivered to his hometown in China. Satisfied with the arrangement, A Zhai thanks the boss, and the pink rabbit confirms the order for a new robot, created in the furnace, to be shipped.

Afterwards, A Zhai attempts to dismiss Ya Dang, telling him he is free to go and no longer needs to follow him, but Ya Dang remains persistently by his side. Later, back at A Zhai's accommodation, Ya Dang is still waiting for him, confirming his unwavering commitment.
