Kexin, disguised as Xu Xian, approached Ruyi, who had mistakenly believed Xu Xian truly cared for her. As the fake Xu Xian, Kexin told Ruyi to stop hitting a straw effigy of Bai Suzhen, then claimed Bai Suzhen was "bland and tasteless," unlike Ruyi who was "as pretty as a peach blossom." Kexin further explained that his closeness to Bai Suzhen was merely a ploy to make her contribute to Jishi Clinic, which he promised would eventually belong to Ruyi.

Taken in by the deception, Ruyi was swayed. Xiao Qing and Jing Song arrived, witnessing the scene. Jing Song, aware of Kexin's disguise, chose to remain silent, hoping to create a rift between Xiao Qing and Bai Suzhen. Xiao Qing, furious that "Xu Xian" was betraying Bai Suzhen, confronted him. Kexin, still in Xu Xian's guise, flirted with Xiao Qing, telling her she was "charming when you're angry" and "a beautiful girl like you shouldn't be anyone's handmaid."

Jing Song pulled Xiao Qing away, stating they needed a different approach to reveal Xu Xian's true nature to Bai Suzhen, or she would blame Xiao Qing for slandering him. He then subtly suggested a more permanent solution. Later, manipulated by Jing Song, Xiao Qing asked Bai Suzhen to write an invitation in her name, claiming it was to help arrange a date for a friend.

Bai Suzhen, believing she was helping a love match, happily agreed to write the letter. Soon after, Xu Xian received the invitation, mistakenly thinking it was from Bai Suzhen. He was thrilled and eagerly set off for West Lake. Physician Jin encouraged him, noting Bai Suzhen’s valuable contributions to the clinic. Kexin, watching from a distance, anticipated that once Xu Xian and Bai Suzhen drew close, she could seize Bai Suzhen's demon core.

On the boat, Xiao Qing and Jing Song conspired to create a storm. They conjured a torrential downpour and violent waves that capsized Xu Xian's boat, sending him into the water. Meanwhile, Bai Suzhen realized Xu Xian was missing from Jishi Clinic. Physician Jin revealed that Xu Xian had left after receiving an invitation from her to West Lake. Realizing it was a trap, Bai Suzhen rushed to the lake.

She found Xu Xian unconscious in the water, quickly retrieving him. Despite his strong pulse, he wouldn't awaken, so Bai Suzhen used her demon core to save his life. At that moment, Kexin attempted to exploit the situation and steal the core. Jing Song, however, intervened, repelling Kexin. He then confronted Bai Suzhen, questioning why she would sacrifice her demon core for "a mortal" whose life was "but a hundred years" and "weak and vulnerable like an ant."

Bai Suzhen angrily told him her choices were her own. Xiao Qing, heartbroken, asked if Bai Suzhen truly intended to sever ties with them for a mortal. Bai Suzhen rebuked Xiao Qing for breaking her promise not to harm humans and disowned her. Disgusted by Jing Song's disdain for human life, Bai Suzhen declared she was wrong about him and insisted they go their separate ways.

Jing Song left, vowing she would regret her decision, and a tearful Xiao Qing followed him. Later, at a tavern, a bitter Jing Song lamented to Xiao Qing that his thousand years of companionship with Bai Suzhen had been erased by a mortal. He recounted how he, a golden mouse from Buddha's side, was cast down to the mortal realm and met Bai Suzhen, guiding her early cultivation.

An intoxicated Xiao Qing bluntly mocked him for failing to win her heart despite his powerful origins, causing Jing Song to leave in a rage. Meanwhile, the monk Fahai tracked Kexin to a brothel. Just as he cornered her, Jing Song secretly masked her demonic aura, allowing her to escape. Fahai's pursuit was further foiled when the drunken Xiao Qing stumbled out and latched onto his staff.

Jing Song later found Kexin and coerced her into killing Xu Xian, promising to help her obtain the celestial Binding Demon Rope to subdue Bai Suzhen. Kexin, whose true goal was Bai Suzhen's demon core, agreed. Back at home, Xu Xian slowly recovered under Bai Suzhen’s diligent care. Ruyi arrived and confronted Xu Xian, claiming he had flirted with her days ago and disparaged Bai Suzhen. Xu Xian vehemently denied this, stating he loved only Bai Suzhen.

Ruyi, feeling abandoned, accused him of leading her on and then forsaking her. The incident, coupled with Xiao Qing's earlier warnings, made Bai Suzhen realize that a demon was orchestrating a plot. She resolved to uncover the truth. Meanwhile, Kexin cultivated favor with Magistrate Liang of Lin'an. After receiving an expensive necklace from him, she enacted her plan.

Feigning concern for his recent chest pain, Kexin suggested that Magistrate Liang visit Jishi Clinic to consult the beautiful and highly skilled female physician, whom she described as a "bodhisattva incarnate." The Magistrate, primarily interested in her beauty, agreed. At Jishi Clinic, Magistrate Liang arrived, rudely displacing other patients. He made inappropriate advances toward Bai Suzhen during her examination, complimenting her hands and "special aroma." Xu Xian, who had returned to the clinic, intervened.

Angered by his behavior, Bai Suzhen initially intended to add a strong laxative to his prescription. However, Xu Xian noticed the change and swapped it back. He gently reminded Bai Suzhen that their profession was for healing, not personal vendettas. Bai Suzhen acknowledged her recklessness. That evening, shortly after taking the prescribed medicine, Magistrate Liang died. The next day, Ruyi confronted Bai Suzhen at Jishi Clinic, accusing her of tampering with prescriptions. At that moment, officials stormed into the clinic. After Bai Suzhen confirmed Magistrate Liang had been a patient there, they announced he had died of poison shortly after taking the medicine she prescribed and promptly arrested her.
