Despite Li Bao's dramatic pleas and kneeling, Bai Yongze remained unsympathetic, warning her that her actions constituted fraud and defamation that could end her career. Overwhelmed by stress, Song Chacha drank heavily. Bai Yongze carried her home, discreetly retrieving his apology letter from her mailbox.
The next day, Song Chacha initially intended to refuse Lan Xin's job offer, but Lan Xin's persuasive words—echoing advice Bai Yongze had given Song Chacha the previous night about proving her independence to Lan Tian—convinced Song Chacha to accept the job.
