In her previous life, Shen Wantang (Lily Miller) married a poor scholar and became the wife of a rising official, while her legitimate sister, Shen Mingxuan, married the heir of Prince Ning but met a tragic death, prompting the heir to renounce the world and become a monk. After both were reborn, Shen Mingxuan insisted on marrying the poor scholar instead, facing constant harassment from her mother-in-law, and her husband despised her and eventually was imprisoned for his misconduct.
Shen Wantang, on the other hand, entered the Ning Prince’s residence and was treated kindly by the prince and princess. However, the prince’s heir, Xiao Qingyuan (Noah Walker), favored a scheming woman and treated Shen Wantang with hostility. Time and again, Shen Wantang exposed the schemer’s plots, causing Xiao Qingyuan to realize his mistakes and beg for reconciliation. Yet she refused him — for what she truly desired was never love, but the position of Mistress of the Ning Residence.
