Sinopse de Love Through a Millennium

In the first year of Yong Shi (16 B.C.), a scholar-bureaucrat, Gong Ming, opposed the deposition of Empress Xu, while his confidant Wang Mang and his family supported Zhao Feiyan to be the Empress. They became enemies and went their separate ways.

After being chased and killed by Wang Mang’s subordinate Zi Xiu, Gong Ming was caught in a desperate situation.

With a jade pendant given by his maid Ying Yue, he accidentally traveled to the year 2015 and met with the young actress Lin Xiangxiang who played the role of Empress Xu.

Gongming realized that the jade pendant with the words “Time shifts, when you die, you live” can bring him back from death to life and travel through time and space.

Using the jade pendant and cell phone as a medium, Gong Ming and Xiang Xiangxiang developed a mutual affection for each other during several times of time travel.

But in Gong Ming’s original time and space, he still had a mission and a destined ending in the history books to reverse.

Gong Ming returned to 2,000 years ago, again and again, hoping to change the political situation. Staying in modern times with Xiangxiang for life seems to be a good dream.

In the first year of Yongshi during the Western Han Dynasty, Gong Ming, a scholar-official, played a game of chess with Wang Mang. Wang Mang observed that Gong Ming's chess style had changed since their youth, to which Gong Ming reciprocated the observation. Wang Mang then stated that they had become alienated just over a deposed empress, but Gong Ming countered that he was merely upholding loyalty and righteousness.

Wang Mang highlighted the declining position of Empress Xu compared to Zhao Feiyan's growing influence, asserting that restoring the empress was a "fool's dream" and simply the "current situation." Gong Ming stressed the duty of Confucian scholars to advise the Emperor and uphold the Han Dynasty's orthodoxy.

Wang Mang questioned if Gong Ming's vision of the world was solely limited to the Emperor's rule, pointing out that the Emperor's neglect of state affairs had led to widespread suffering and a lack of peace. When Gong Ming asked his intentions, Wang Mang declared that a crumbling structure should be replaced. Gong Ming denounced his words as treasonous, insisting he had never heard such sentiments. Wang Mang retorted that the common people simply desired a wise ruler.

Gong Ming chastised him for his disloyal and unrighteous remarks, deeming them unfit for someone in power. Wang Mang concluded their debate by stating, "Everything in the world is like a chess game. If you follow the trend, it is a foregone conclusion. If you don't understand the current affairs, don't blame the ruthless situation." Meanwhile, Emperor Cheng of the Han Dynasty, engrossed in pleasures and favoring Zhao Feiyan, had deposed Empress Xu and confined her to the cold palace.

Empress Xu expressed her deep sorrow, believing she had committed an unforgivable sin. She lamented that her cherished wish could not be forced and described the Emperor's favor as the shifting brilliance of the sun, leaving her in desolate silence. Despite her fate, she clung to the Emperor's kindness. She yearned for his presence in her quiet chambers, which he no longer visited, and could not help but weep at her cold and lonely surroundings.

Suddenly, Empress Xu found herself surrounded by masked assassins and cried out for help, thinking her end was near. Fortunately, a woman named Ying Yue intervened and saved her. Wang Mang, supported by his powerful Wang family, backed Zhao Feiyan's aspiration to become empress and had Empress Xu framed, leading to her deposition. Gong Ming, however, investigated and uncovered the truth behind the false witchcraft charges.

During another chess game, Gong Ming confronted Wang Mang, accusing him of orchestrating the assassination attempt on Empress Xu and linking it to the Wang family's rising power and their desperate push for Zhao Feiyan to be crowned empress. Wang Mang coldly asserted that Empress Xu was pitiful but would have been sentenced to death by the Emperor regardless, and questioned if the grave charge of witchcraft could be easily dismissed.

Gong Ming retorted by asking if he truly believed Zhao Feiyan was uninvolved in the witchcraft plot. He revealed that a Taoist priest was manipulated to gain Empress Xu's trust, and when the plot was exposed, Zhao Feiyan falsely claimed to be framed, directing suspicion towards Empress Xu. Although Empress Xu was spared death, she was ultimately deposed.

Gong Ming declared that he had investigated the matter and would report to the Emperor the next day to remove the traitors and restore order to the court. Wang Mang acknowledged Gong Ming's unwavering integrity but countered that his Wang family's influence was now "at its peak," making his efforts for Empress Xu seem like "abandoning the light for darkness."

He warned that with the Emperor's lack of engagement and Zhao Feiyan's deep favor, Gong Ming, a solitary scholar, would be like "a mantis trying to stop a chariot" if he persisted. Concluding that their principles were irreconcilable, Gong Ming left. Knowing that Gong Ming had uncovered too much, Wang Mang immediately ordered his subordinates to pursue and apprehend him, but explicitly instructed them not to kill him.

Ying Yue, Gong Ming's bodyguard, who had previously saved Empress Xu from assassins, reported to Gong Ming that the Empress was safe. Gong Ming realized the Wang family's deeper involvement and worried they would silence the Taoist priest, a key witness. Ying Yue confirmed she had already hidden the witness. Gong Ming instructed her to guard the Taoist priest while he went to the palace to report the truth to the Emperor.

Ying Yue expressed concern for Gong Ming's safety, fearing the Wang family's malice given his opposition to Empress Xu's deposition. She offered to accompany him, but Gong Ming assured her that Wang Mang, despite his ambition, would not harm him directly due to their long history together. Ying Yue, however, still feared the ruthlessness of the Wang family.

She then presented Gong Ming with a jade pendant, explaining it was a rare heirloom from her father, given to him by Zhenren Nanhua, an "immortal item" that she hoped would protect him. Despite Gong Ming's reluctance to accept such a valuable personal item, Ying Yue insisted. He then asked if she had been injured in the recent skirmish, and after her assurance that she was fine, Gong Ming departed for the palace.

In modern times, on February 15, 2015, aspiring actress Lin Xiangxiang was on her way to audition for the role of Empress Xu in the drama "New Zhao Feiyan". Stuck in traffic, her own costume couldn't arrive in time, leaving her frustrated. She managed to borrow a dress. While changing backstage, her former boyfriend, the popular actor Han Yufei, spotted her with her zipper undone. He approached her, making a comment about her "sloppy" appearance.

Lin Xiangxiang was annoyed, threatening to report him for sexual harassment and reminding him that they were no longer friends. Upon learning she was auditioning for Empress Xu, Han Yufei mockingly told her she didn't fit the role, calling her more like "a man" than the "skillful and quiet" empress. Lin Xiangxiang dismissed him, saying she wasn't interested in his scandalous affairs, which were already public knowledge, and accused him of associating with "actresses who love to hype."

She told him to leave her alone. As he walked away, Han Yufei wished her good luck with a smirk. To calm her nerves before the audition, Lin Xiangxiang performed stretching exercises and drank a can of beer, much to the disdain of the other waiting actresses. When her turn came, she introduced herself to the judges. They noted her past as a singer and her limited acting experience, having only played minor roles and filmed commercials.

Lin Xiangxiang, however, asserted her dedication and skill. Finding the constant recitation of lines tiresome, a judge requested she sing a song instead for a change. Lin Xiangxiang's angelic voice impressed the panel with a beautiful and emotional performance. Suddenly, Han Yufei appeared and suggested an impromptu scene with Lin Xiangxiang to truly assess an actor's "explosive power and creativity." The director agreed, confirming that Han Yufei was cast as Emperor Cheng of the Han Dynasty.

Learning that Han Yufei was cast as Emperor Cheng, Lin Xiangxiang muttered about her bad luck. During their impromptu performance, she seized the opportunity to slap him, delivering lines about the Emperor's excessive indulgence and neglect. Later, at a bar, a dejected Lin Xiangxiang told her agent, Jin Jing, over the phone that she believed she had failed the audition, blaming Han Yufei.

Jin Jing, upon hearing Han Yufei was playing the Emperor, remarked that the "pervert" was perfect for the role, which further angered Lin Xiangxiang for not being informed sooner. Lin Xiangxiang explained that she had gotten too immersed in the moment, hitting him despite playing the "submissive Empress Xu." While admitting it felt good to "teach a scumbag a lesson," she acknowledged it was unprofessional.

After Jin Jing chided her for wasting the opportunity, Lin Xiangxiang concluded her call, still nursing her disappointment with drinks. Shortly after, Han Yufei called, teasing her about her drinking and his "disfigurement" from her slap. Annoyed, Lin Xiangxiang hung up, but not before he hinted that she got the part. Immediately, Director Yang Yuan called.

Due to the noisy bus she was on and her lingering frustration (mistaking the call for Han Yufei, even yelling at a fellow passenger), she initially struggled to hear. However, the director finally managed to formally inform her that she had been cast as Empress Xu. Overjoyed, Lin Xiangxiang profusely thanked the director and producer, then loudly apologized to the bus passengers, announcing her triumphant casting.

She then called Jin Jing, who, despite her joy, warned Lin Xiangxiang to stay professional and avoid any negative publicity. Back in 16 BC, Gong Ming found himself pursued and cornered by assassins in the wilderness. Unfazed, he skillfully fended off a blade and asked his attackers if the Wang family was behind this. An assassin confirmed that Grand Minister Wang Mang was indeed aware of the assassination.

With that confirmation, a disillusioned Gong Ming sat down, resigned to his death, declaring that even if he died, the truth would persist. Suddenly, a flash of light enveloped him, and Gong Ming was inexplicably transported through time to the modern era. Astounded and disoriented by the unfamiliar surroundings, he stood bewildered in the middle of a busy road.

Just as he was about to be struck by an oncoming car, Lin Xiangxiang, rushing by, pulled him to safety, asking if he was alright. Gong Ming, still in shock, could only stare, while Lin Xiangxiang thanked him and continued on her way.

Gong Ming, who had just been saved from a car by Lin Xiangxiang, looked around in astonishment at the bewildering modern world, demanding to know where he was and who she was. Lin Xiangxiang, seeing his ancient attire, assumed he was an extra and told him, "I am Empress Xu, Empress Xu of the Dahan Dynasty." Both found each other quite peculiar.

Lin Xiangxiang, hearing his archaic speech, thought he was too immersed in his role and kindly offered to take him home. When she noticed the injury on his hand, she immediately went to call a taxi to take him to a hospital. Unsure of his surroundings and with his assassins now mysteriously absent, Gong Ming fled, fearing whether Lin Xiangxiang was friend or foe. He hid in a small alley, recalling the recent events and questioning if he had died.

He pulled out the jade pendant from his clothes, on which was inscribed, "Time changes, circumstances shift, encounter death and then live." Suddenly, with a flash of light, he was transported back to 16 BC, reappearing in the forest where he had been attacked. He wondered if it had all been a dream, but his sword wound was real, and the assassins were still pursuing him.

Lin Xiangxiang searched everywhere for Gong Ming but only found a blood-stained piece of his clothing. Later, her agent, Jin Jing, was overjoyed for Lin Xiangxiang, as she had finally landed a role with a name after five years in the industry. Han Yufei called Lin Xiangxiang, using the role of Empress Xu as leverage to demand a meeting. When they met, Han Yufei was visibly touched that Lin Xiangxiang still wore the bracelet he had given her.

Despite being a top star, he still harbored deep feelings for her. During their "rehearsal," Han Yufei, looking at his former lover, proposed that they start over and then tried to kiss her. Infuriated, Lin Xiangxiang pushed him into the swimming pool. Later, sitting on her sofa, Lin Xiangxiang collected the piece of Gong Ming's clothing, reflecting on their strange encounter.

Meanwhile, back in Western Han, Gong Ming sought refuge at his mentor's home to escape the Wang family's pursuit, instructing his mentor not to inform Ying Yue of his whereabouts. His mentor, concerned about Gong Ming's perilous situation, urged him to adapt to the changing circumstances. Gong Ming then presented Ying Yue's jade pendant, asking his mentor about its unusual properties and recounting his incredible time-traveling experience.

Hearing about his encounter with a woman, his mentor chuckled before asking about his relationship with Ying Yue. Gong Ming firmly stated that his bond with Ying Yue was akin to siblings, and that in a time of national crisis, personal affections should not take precedence. Wang Mang, upon learning that the assassination attempt on Gong Ming had failed, conceived a plan to use Ying Yue to draw Gong Ming out.

When Ying Yue discovered Gong Ming was missing, she confronted Wang Mang in a rage, demanding to know Gong Ming's whereabouts. Wang Mang, who secretly harbored feelings for Ying Yue but knew her eyes were only for Gong Ming, felt a bitter pang. Ying Yue accused Wang Mang of cruelly attacking Gong Ming, who was like a brother to him. Wang Mang responded that it was either Gong Ming's death or his own, forcing Ying Yue to make a choice.

Still holding her sword to him, Ying Yue refused to back down, prompting Wang Mang to order her capture, but with strict instructions not to harm her. As he watched her being led away, Wang Mang was pained, recalling their shared childhood memories. Upon learning of Ying Yue's capture, Gong Ming became gravely anxious. In the modern world, Jin Jing reminded Lin Xiangxiang that the famous actress Zhao Nana would be playing Zhao Feiyan in their new drama.

Excited to meet her idol, Lin Xiangxiang eagerly approached Zhao Nana, only to be coldly dismissed. Zhao Nana, with her haughty demeanor, sarcastically referred to Lin Xiangxiang as a "relation." It turned out that rumors were circulating that Lin Xiangxiang had secured the role through Han Yufei's connections. Lin Xiangxiang confronted Han Yufei, reaffirming that she would not reconcile with him and did not need his help to get roles.

She scorned his actions, expressing her desire to earn recognition through her own efforts. Disheartened, Lin Xiangxiang left the new drama's press conference and was walking in a park when she unexpectedly encountered Gong Ming and an assassin, this time on horseback. An assassin struck Lin Xiangxiang, knocking her unconscious. Gong Ming bravely fought the assassin, ultimately killing him with a sword, and then rushed to embrace the fallen Lin Xiangxiang.

Lin Xiangxiang awoke to find Gong Ming injured, which deeply concerned her. Gong Ming, however, was bewildered, repeatedly asking her where they were and who she was. Lin Xiangxiang recognized him as the "strange big brother" from the street and, noting his injury, remarked that she had initially thought their previous encounter was a dream. Gong Ming, equally perplexed, wondered if his last memory was a dream and questioned his surroundings.

As Lin Xiangxiang inquired about the assassin he had fought, she witnessed the dead man's body on the ground slowly vanish into thin air. Overwhelmed with fear, she fainted once more. Lin Xiangxiang later regained consciousness in the hospital, where Jin Jing and Xiaonan were with her. She excitedly recounted her extraordinary tale, detailing Gong Ming's ancient attire, the sword fight, and the assassin's mysterious disappearance.

However, neither Jin Jing nor Xiaonan believed her, with Xiaonan playfully dismissing it as a "Prince Charming" fantasy and assuring her that she seemed mentally sound. Jin Jing, meanwhile, was furious with Lin Xiangxiang for missing her crucial launch conference. After scolding her intensely for this significant misstep, Jin Jing left to handle the public relations crisis, leaving Lin Xiangxiang alone.

Elsewhere, at an event, Zhao Nana publicly disparaged Han Yufei for allegedly using his connections to secure Lin Xiangxiang's role in the drama. Han Yufei retorted, and the director, caught in the middle, found himself unable to intervene effectively. Nana then dramatically threatened to withdraw from the production if Lin Xiangxiang wasn't replaced, causing the director to feign illness.

Back in her hospital room, Lin Xiangxiang searched her bag for her mobile phone, but instead found a peculiar, dirty jade pendant that did not belong to her, deepening her confusion. Meanwhile, Gong Ming found himself transported back to the Western Han Dynasty, but oddly, Lin Xiangxiang's modern mobile phone was now in his possession.

Wang Mang faced severe reproaches from the powerful Wang clan elders for his reluctance to eliminate Gong Ming, reminding him of their family's unwavering support and influence, including elevating his uncle Wang Feng to Shangshu. The elders demanded that Wang Mang swiftly assassinate Gong Ming and ensure Zhao Feiyan was installed as Empress, threatening grave consequences should he fail to comply. Wang Mang asserted that Gong Ming was a political adversary that the Wang family was determined to eradicate.

Following the elders' decree, Zixiu subjected Ying Yue, Gong Ming's loyal female guard, to brutal torture in an attempt to extract information about his whereabouts. Wang Mang intervened, stopping Zixiu and angrily demanding to know if Zixiu obeyed him or the elders. After punishing Zixiu by having him dragged away, Wang Mang personally untied Ying Yue. Ying Yue, deeply worried, immediately asked about Gong Ming's safety.

Seeing her unwavering concern for Gong Ming, Wang Mang, disappointed, told her that Gong Ming's body had not been found, so he might still be alive, before leaving. Gong Ming was then inexplicably transported back to the modern era, still clad in his ancient robes, drawing stares and whispers from passersby. Overwhelmed, he collapsed in an underground passage.

At the hospital, Lin Xiangxiang was watching a news report when she saw footage of a horse, identical to Gong Ming's, running wildly through the city. This confirmed her earlier experience was real, not a dream. Her phone, which Gong Ming had, then rang in the passage where he lay unconscious. Two young girls who found him answered it.

Lin Xiangxiang rushed to Gong Ming, but their unusual appearances—she in a hospital gown, he in ancient attire—led a security guard to mistake them for mental patients. They hastily fled in Lin Xiangxiang’s car. Terrified by his first car ride, Gong Ming struggled with the door and seatbelt. He perceived the modern world as an "otherworld illusion," clinging to Lin Xiangxiang as his only familiar connection. He explained that he was from Chang'an of the Dahan (Han Dynasty).

Lin Xiangxiang, still finding it hard to fully believe, sarcastically asked if he meant he was from two thousand years ago. She then received a call from Jin Jing, who had tracked her down, but Lin Xiangxiang insisted she would handle her own problems. As they drove, Gong Ming further elaborated that he was unwillingly transported to the future whenever his life was in danger, and confirmed he had indeed killed an assassin during their initial encounter.

He then asked for his jade pendant back, reminding Lin Xiangxiang of its significance. Upon learning her role had been officially canceled, Lin Xiangxiang raced to the film set. She found Director Yang, who, after being startled by Gong Ming's unexpected appearance, reluctantly explained that Zhao Nana’s hostility made it impossible to re-cast her. He could only promise not to object if Nana herself agreed.

To explain Gong Ming's presence, Lin Xiangxiang concocted a story, introducing him as her eccentric distant cousin, a martial arts actor with "some mental issues." She then convinced him to get a modern haircut, despite his strong protests rooted in the Confucian principle of "Body, hair and skin are received from parents," which prohibits casually cutting one's hair. Gong Ming's confusion intensified as he observed women in short skirts, prompting Lin Xiangxiang to patiently explain modern customs.

He slowly began to accept the reality of his two-thousand-year time travel. When Lin Xiangxiang pressed him about how he traveled through time, Gong Ming reiterated that it occurred whenever his life was threatened. She then asked who was trying to kill him, to which he sighed and replied, "a confidant." A flashback revealed a young Wang Mang, falsely accused of stealing letter slips, being defended by a young Gong Ming, who exposed other students as the culprits.

The young Wang Mang, crying as he looked at their elementary education school, expressed a desire to leave, but Gong Ming reminded him of their shared commitment to the principles of self-cultivation and societal governance. Lin Xiangxiang later confronted Zhao Nana again, apologizing and earnestly pleading for another chance to play the role, emphasizing her profound love for acting.

Nana, however, remained cold and unyielding, criticizing Lin Xiangxiang for her unpunctuality and arguing that it disqualified her from being a good actress. As the tension escalated, Nana demanded that Lin Xiangxiang kneel to apologize. Lin Xiangxiang was outraged by the demeaning request and vehemently refused, condemning Nana's disrespectful and ill-mannered behavior. Their argument quickly devolved into a physical altercation.

Gong Ming, who had followed Lin Xiangxiang, intervened and sternly rebuked Nana, comparing her cruel actions to the tyrannical Zhao Feiyan, who "caused chaos in the court and harmed the imperial heir," and remarked that her heart was as ugly as her "strange" appearance.

Later, back in the car, a tearful Lin Xiangxiang confided in Gong Ming, revealing her hurt and anger upon learning that her role was due to connections, not her own merit, which had fueled her earlier impulsive actions. Despite her emotional distress, Lin Xiangxiang composed herself, resolving to return to the hospital to retrieve Gong Ming's jade pendant. Gong Ming praised her dignified composure, remarking that her straightforwardness embodied the "gentleman's way" as taught by Confucius. As Lin Xiangxiang drove away after retrieving the jade pendant, Gong Ming, now holding the artifact, abruptly vanished from the car, leaving Lin Xiangxiang screaming in terror.

Lin Xiangxiang returned to the hospital in a state of distress, trying to explain to Jin Jing and Xia Xiaonan that Gong Ming had genuinely vanished into thin air right before her eyes. Jin Jing, however, dismissed her claims as rambling, and angrily confronted Lin Xiangxiang for spoiling her meeting with Zhao Nana, grabbing her and scolding her, to which Lin Xiangxiang apologized.

Meanwhile, Han Yufei met Zhao Nana for dinner, hoping to persuade her to be lenient with Lin Xiangxiang. Zhao Nana, still pondering Gong Ming's earlier remarks about her appearance, questioned Han Yufei if she indeed looked "peculiar." Han Yufei praised her as the most beautiful actress he knew. Zhao Nana then recounted how Lin Xiangxiang had come to her and verbally attacked her manners, while Zhao Nana's assistant added that Lin Xiangxiang had even slapped her.

Despite this, Han Yufei continued to defend Lin Xiangxiang, acknowledging her impulsive nature but stressing her good heart. In the Western Han Dynasty, Zhao Feiyan severed her alliance with the Wang family, a move seen as a betrayal, though she promised Wang Mang favorable treatment once she became Empress. She attempted to seduce Wang Mang, but the latter remained unmoved.

Wang Mang then gravely advised Gong Ming to stop aiding Empress Xu, warning that the Wang family would otherwise destroy him. Recognizing their irreconcilable political differences, Wang Mang lamented that they had finally reached a point of no return. As they parted ways, Gong Ming exchanged the Taoist priest, who had framed Empress Xu, for Ying Yue. Influenced by Han Yufei's intervention, Zhao Nana agreed to allow Lin Xiangxiang back into the drama production.

Separately, Jin Jing covertly bribed the director to ensure Lin Xiangxiang would be well-cared for on set. Later, alone, Lin Xiangxiang found herself consumed by thoughts of Gong Ming, bewildered and upset by his sudden disappearance. Gong Ming explained to Ying Yue that whenever he faced mortal danger, the jade pendant would transport him two millennia into the future. Ying Yue was astonished, also finding Gong Ming's short hair profoundly inexplicable.

Gong Ming affirmed his ability to traverse time and declared his intent to use this power to alter the current political situation. To demonstrate and initiate another journey, Gong Ming instructed Ying Yue to stab him with a knife. Following this, Gong Ming reappeared in the modern era and immediately sought out Lin Xiangxiang's hospital room. Han Yufei arrived to pick up Lin Xiangxiang, who was being discharged.

Unexpectedly, he and Xia Xiaonan encountered Gong Ming, who was looking for Lin Xiangxiang. Recalling Lin Xiangxiang's earlier tales of seeing a man in ancient clothes and subsequently fainting, Han Yufei and Xia Xiaonan quickly suspected Gong Ming was a "perverted stalker" and alerted hospital security. Gong Ming, however, vanished from their sight.

As Han Yufei then called Lin Xiangxiang to warn her about the "stalker," Gong Ming reappeared beside Lin Xiangxiang and pulled her aside, urgently requesting her help in finding historical records about the Dahan Dynasty. Lin Xiangxiang agreed to take him to a library. As they walked to the library, it began to rain. Lin Xiangxiang shared her umbrella, but Gong Ming initially tried to maintain a distance, citing the traditional custom that "men and women should not touch."

Lin Xiangxiang playfully dismissed this, taking his hand and pulling him closer under the umbrella. Noticing her flushed face, Gong Ming mistakenly attributed it to a chill and felt guilty. Lin Xiangxiang then took Gong Ming to a store to buy modern clothes. He was initially reluctant, finding them "strange attire," but conceded at her insistence. Dressed in modern attire, Gong Ming looked remarkably handsome and refined.

A store clerk, observing them, assumed they were a couple, which secretly pleased Lin Xiangxiang. Later, in a taxi, as they listened to music, Han Yufei called Lin Xiangxiang, but she quickly gave a brief excuse and ended the call. At the library, Lin Xiangxiang found a copy of "Hanshu" for Gong Ming, allowing him to research events from "The first year of Yongshi."

Gong Ming was visibly anxious as he prepared to read, describing it as "a moment of going against heaven's will." His shock grew as he discovered that Emperor Cheng of the Han Dynasty had not only established Zhao Feiyan as Empress but had also ordered the death of Empress Xu. He asked Lin Xiangxiang in disbelief if these historical accounts were true.

Overwhelmed with sadness and a sense of failure for being unable to uphold righteousness in his time, Gong Ming lamented that destiny was unchangeable. Lin Xiangxiang, however, offered a different perspective. She cheerfully suggested that his meeting her was a sign of destiny, and encouraged him to return and alter history. She highlighted the profound coincidence that he sought to save Empress Xu, and in her world, he encountered her, an actress portraying Empress Xu in a drama.

Worried that she might never see him again, Lin Xiangxiang tightly held Gong Ming's hand, expressing her sorrow that he lacked modern communication methods like phones or social media. Gong Ming, having retrieved the jade pendant earlier, changed back into his ancient clothes, preparing to depart. As he was about to leave, Lin Xiangxiang suddenly rushed forward, enveloping him in a deep, heartfelt embrace, unwilling to leave any regrets.

Jin Jing, having heard about a pervert following Lin Xiangxiang, expressed her concern. Lin Xiangxiang, with a hint of sorrow, stated that "he" would not appear before her again. Xia Xiaonan, observing Lin Xiangxiang's apparent regret, questioned why she seemed to feel a sense of loss. Back in the Han Dynasty, Gong Ming shared the history he had witnessed in the future with his mentor, revealing that Zhao Feiyan becomes empress and Empress Xu is ordered to die.

His mentor cautioned him against altering history, comparing it to attempting to defy a flowing river, warning of unforeseen consequences. Gong Ming, however, remained resolute in his belief that he must try to change the outcome. He then inquired about Wang Mang's recent activities from Ying Yue. Wang Mang sat washing his mother's feet, reminiscing about his childhood friendship with Gong Ming.

He reflected sadly on how he was about to lose his only confidant and anticipated that Ying Yue would never forgive him for his impending actions. Leaning on his mother, he sighed, realizing she was all he had left. Lin Xiangxiang, distraught by Gong Ming's departure, was surprised to spot him in the library. She rushed over and grabbed him. She requested his help in understanding the character of Empress Xu for her drama.

Gong Ming agreed, much to her delight. During their conversation, Lin Xiangxiang was thrilled to learn that Gong Ming was not married. Their discussion was interrupted when Xia Xiaonan, mistaking Gong Ming for the "pervert," threatened to call the police. Before she could act, Gong Ming suddenly vanished before their eyes, startling Xia Xiaonan who thought she had seen a ghost.

Xia Xiaonan suggested using media to expose Gong Ming, but Lin Xiangxiang refused, prompting Xia Xiaonan to realize that Lin Xiangxiang had feelings for him. Lin Xiangxiang warned her to keep it a secret. In the library, Gong Ming learned his own fate: he would be framed, exiled, and then die by poison. Knowing his life was nearing its end, Ying Yue urged him to flee immediately. However, he expressed concern for Empress Xu and decided to stay.

During the filming of Lin Xiangxiang's TV series, Han Yufei attempted to add a kissing scene, but the director rejected the idea. Han Yufei then took the opportunity to touch Lin Xiangxiang inappropriately and cautioned her to be careful of "the pervert." Lin Xiangxiang found herself constantly checking her phone, waiting for Gong Ming's call. Xia Xiaonan reminded her that Gong Ming was over two thousand years old and that their relationship would have no future.

Jin Jing visited the set and was drawn to Han Yufei's agent, Wu Tianxiu. Lin Xiangxiang asked the director if a historical figure named Gong Ming truly existed. The director informed her that Gong Ming only appeared in unofficial histories, accused of orchestrating the witchcraft case to frame the empress, leading to his exile and eventual suicide out of fear. Lin Xiangxiang deduced that Gong Ming was fated to die that year and was overcome with dread.

Wang Mang ordered the murder of the Taoist priest who testified in the witchcraft case and then framed Gong Ming. Gong Ming was brought to the imperial court, where the Wang family attacked him and implicated Empress Xu. Emperor Cheng was enraged and commanded Gong Ming's exile. Wang Mang visited Gong Ming in prison, promising to spare him the exile if he abandoned Empress Xu. Gong Ming refused, and Wang Mang shook his head in resignation.

Ying Yue confronted Wang Mang, criticizing his despicable act of framing Gong Ming for murder. Gong Ming, declining Ying Yue's offer to accompany him into exile, entrusted her with his last wishes concerning Empress Xu. Later, the Wang family elders instructed Wang Mang to eliminate Gong Ming completely. Wang Mang believed that Gong Ming, having lost the Emperor's trust, was no longer a threat. However, the elders secretly ordered Zi Xiu to assassinate Gong Ming.

Drinking alone at his residence, Wang Mang realized Zi Xiu was missing and sensed trouble. Zi Xiu's initial attempt to poison Gong Ming failed, prompting him to plan an assassination with archers. Lin Xiangxiang grieved over Gong Ming's impending fate. At that moment, her phone rang, and it was Gong Ming calling her.

Gong Ming, who was in exile in Qian Tang, was being pursued by assassins. As a sword struck him, he vanished in an instant, leaving no trace or blood. His pursuers were baffled, believing he had used witchcraft and magic, finding it unimaginable that a mere Confucian scholar could possess such powers. Gong Ming reappeared in 2015, in Hangzhou. He approached a young woman, asking for directions and stating he needed her help as he had observed her guiding people.

Later, Xiangxiang received a call from Gong Ming, who confirmed he had narrowly escaped death, describing it as a "nine-deaths-one-life" experience. She expressed immense worry, noting that across two millennia, she had no way of knowing if he was alive, and that she had been told he was dead. Gong Ming apologized for causing her distress. He then asked her to come to Hangzhou to assist him.

Xiaonan Bro, hearing Xiangxiang needed to go to Hangzhou, questioned if she truly liked Gong Ming, but Xiangxiang brushed it off, stating Gong Ming knew no one else there. Han Yufei, overhearing that Xiangxiang was heading to Hangzhou, immediately changed his schedule, concocting a plan to reschedule a magazine photoshoot and interview to Hangzhou, citing the need for scenic backdrops and offering to cover any excess budget.

His assistant observed that he was always acting, like a "giant baby, warm man, domineering president." In 2015, Hangzhou, Xiangxiang, Gong Ming, Xiaonan Bro, and Jing-jie were together. Xiangxiang expressed her desire to visit the History Museum to better understand her acting role, noting that with Gong Ming, a "history expert," she wouldn't be afraid of not understanding.

Xiaonan Bro, however, persuaded Jing-jie that their "cultural level" wasn't suited for a history museum and convinced her to go shopping instead, implicitly to give Xiangxiang and Gong Ming some alone time. Gong Ming explained to Xiangxiang that he had devised a plan to escape his predicament, inspired by seeing "giant flying birds" (airplanes) in the sky.

He believed that if he could travel to Chang'an by plane, he could surprise his enemies and, with the help of his jade pendant, turn the situation around. He then requested Xiangxiang to teach him how to survive in this modern world, including how to take a car and an airplane, emphasizing that all the knowledge of this era would greatly assist his strategy. Xiangxiang enthusiastically agreed.

She began teaching him about modern currency and simple arithmetic, which Gong Ming quickly grasped, impressing Xiangxiang who joked that "ancestors are indeed smarter than us." He admitted his skill in "mathematics" since elementary education. Xiangxiang also taught him how to hail a taxi. While in a taxi, they observed a modern couple arguing about infidelity on a screen.

Gong Ming found the woman's assertive behavior unbecoming for a "Great Han" lady, causing Xiangxiang to comment that his thoughts were "completely those of an ancestor"—too conservative and repressed—though she immediately softened, saying he didn't mean to displease her. Gong Ming then acknowledged that he learned everything from "Master Xiangxiang," and she playfully agreed that "a famous teacher produces outstanding students."

Meanwhile, in 16 BC Chang'an, officials pressed the Emperor to fill the vacant empress's position, citing public unease and using the "Gong Ming case" to justify the deposed empress's fate. They advocated for Zhao Jieyu, praising her virtue. When the Emperor raised concerns about the Zhao clan's humble origins, the officials suggested conferring a marquis title upon Zhao Jieyu's father to legitimize her ascension.

Wang Mang and his allies celebrated their near success in elevating Zhao Jieyu to the empress position. During their celebration, an ally inadvertently revealed to a surprised Wang Mang that Zi Xiu had already been dispatched to assassinate Gong Ming at his place of exile and had likely succeeded. Wang Mang was visibly distraught by this news. He then reminisced about his childhood with Gong Ming and Ying Yue, lamenting the loss of his "sole confidant."

Later, Xiaonan Bro and Jing-jie were heavily inebriated at a bar. Jing-jie, in her drunken state, confessed she missed her ex-boyfriend and tearfully sang about her heartbreak, stating she couldn't forget him. Xiaonan Bro advised her that the best way to forget someone was to start a new relationship. Jing-jie then surprisingly declared her feelings for Tianxiu, saying that Xiaonan Bro believed they were unsuitable. Xiangxiang took Gong Ming to watch a movie.

He was deeply moved, finding the concept of a "fictional story" incredible, contrasting it with the Han dynasty's practice of only recording true history. He also expressed admiration for Xiangxiang's appearance in "Shenyi wide sleeves" (traditional Han attire), which he had seen in a film clip, remarking on how beautiful she looked. As they left the cinema, walking on a bridge, the city lights resembled stars.

Xiangxiang then introduced Gong Ming to the concept of zodiac signs, calculating that his March 24th birth date made him a Taurus. She teased him, saying he perfectly embodied the "rigid, stubborn, conservative" traits of a Taurus, but also highlighted the positive aspects: being "cautious, responsible, patient," and "very dedicated to the person you love." When Xiangxiang mentioned feeling cold, Gong Ming affectionately embraced her. Xiangxiang, overcome with emotion, couldn't help but kiss Gong Ming.

As they passionately embraced, Xiangxiang remembered an old house where she had lived with her parents for eight years and suggested they go there. Gong Ming, looking at her with deep affection, took her hand. Upon arriving at the old house, Gong Ming initiated a kiss. They then lay on the bed, undressing and kissing each other. Suddenly, Xiaonan Bro called Xiangxiang, urging her to return immediately, though he didn't elaborate on the emergency.

Xiangxiang promised Gong Ming they would return together. As they were walking, Han Yufei's assistant recognized Gong Ming as the "pervert" they had previously encountered in the hospital. Han Yufei, seeing Xiangxiang and Gong Ming, immediately called security, accusing Gong Ming of being a stalker. As security guards moved to apprehend Gong Ming, Xiangxiang intervened, vehemently denying he was a pervert. To everyone's shock, she declared, "He's my boyfriend."

In the aftermath, Gong Ming finds himself in a precarious situation in the modern era as Han Yufei and his team mistakenly identify him as a stalker. To protect Gong Ming, Lin Xiangxiang publicly declares him to be her boyfriend. Although Gong Ming initially thanks her for the "lie," Lin Xiangxiang clarifies her sincerity and confesses her deep feelings for him.

However, Gong Ming apologetically states that he has more important matters to attend to than personal romance and gently rejects her. Moments later, Han Yufei persists in confronting Lin Xiangxiang in public, prompting Jin Jing to intervene and physically restrain him. Seizing the opportunity, Lin Xiangxiang quickly helps Gong Ming into a taxi, urging him to take care of himself.

Upon returning home, Jin Jing unleashes her fury on Lin Xiangxiang, accusing her of prioritizing a secret relationship over her acting career and publicly announcing it, vowing to make her pay. Xia Xiaonan attempts to calm the heated argument between them but is intimidated by Jin Jing's aggressive demeanor. Left alone, Lin Xiangxiang can only worry about Gong Ming. Meanwhile, Gong Ming returns to the Han Dynasty using his jade pendant.

He had previously instructed Ying Yue to protect Empress Xu and monitor the powerful Wang family during his exile. Ying Yue is overcome with joy and relief at his unexpected return. Gong Ming notices her visibly thinner appearance, understanding it is due to her worrying about him. Gong Ming immediately inquires about the Wang family's plans.

Ying Yue confirms his suspicions, revealing their plot to assassinate Empress Xu, led this time by Wang Shu, and scheduled to take place in four days. Gong Ming resolves to tackle this challenge directly. He explains that the assassin Zixiu, sent to track him in his place of exile, will not return for at least a month, and the Wang family believes him dead. He then outlines a plan involving his unique "treasure," the jade pendant.

Gong Ming then makes a surprising appearance before Empress Xu, who is astonished to see him after his exile. He confirms the Wang family's intention to assassinate her, making it appear as a suicide, and reveals his plan to force them to act that very night. He assures her of his strategy to protect her and requests her silence. Empress Xu, trusting Gong Ming, agrees to follow his instructions.

Concurrently, Emperor Cheng discovers an unusual object in his palace hall, hinting at Gong Ming's presence. Gong Ming infiltrates Wang Shu's residence, using his sword to compel the minister to write an incriminating letter in the Wang family's name, ordering Zixiu's subordinates to carry out the assassination of Empress Xu immediately. He then forces Wang Shu to write a second letter that explicitly clears Gong Ming's name regarding previous accusations.

Elsewhere, Ying Yue confronts Wang Mang in the wilderness, preventing him from returning to Chang'an that night. Wang Mang expresses disbelief that Ying Yue would harm him, but she wounds him to ensure his detention, stating she would even kill him if necessary. Wang Mang dismisses his physical injury, claiming her words have wounded his heart more deeply. Despite Wang Mang's absence, the assassins proceed with their mission, surrounding the Empress's palace.

However, palace guards, who had been alerted, suddenly appear and engage the assassins in a fierce battle. Emperor Cheng arrives at the scene, offering comfort to Empress Xu and expressing deep regret for the hardships she has endured due to his past decisions. He orders the arrest of all those responsible. At Wang Shu's residence, imperial guards apprehend him as the primary instigator of the assassination attempt.

Wang Shu frantically claims another individual is hidden in the room, but the guards find no one. Meanwhile, Ying Yue arranges for a doctor to treat Wang Mang's wound, which is determined to be superficial. In the imperial court, Wang Shu's letter, coerced by Gong Ming, clearly outlines the Wang family's involvement and Gong Ming's innocence. Despite the Wang officials' desperate attempts to shift all blame onto Wang Shu, Emperor Cheng remains resolute, promising a thorough investigation.

He then issues an imperial decree, re-titling the deposed Empress Xu as Gui Ren to restore her honor and recalling Gong Ming from exile, reinstating him to his former position, citing Wang Shu's letter as clear evidence of Gong Ming's innocence. These developments enrage Zhao Feiyan. Later, Gong Ming expresses his remorse to Ying Yue for involving her in his conflict with Wang Mang, his childhood friend.

Ying Yue reveals that she was the one who wounded Wang Mang, leading Gong Ming to acknowledge the pain of their diverging paths and express regret for causing her to act against her childhood friend. As he prepares to return to his exile location to await his official reinstatement, he tells Ying Yue he needs to make one last trip to the future to thank the person who helped him.

Ying Yue, understanding his unspoken meaning, asks if he refers to Lin Xiangxiang. Gong Ming describes Xiangxiang as a uniquely quirky yet essential ally in the modern era, emphasizing that without her, none of his current successes would have been possible. He expresses his desire to convey his true feelings to her now that his immediate mission is complete. Ying Yue then quietly asks if Lin Xiangxiang has already captured his heart.

In the modern era, the commotion involving Han Yufei at the airport becomes a viral headline, with media outlets portraying Lin Xiangxiang as a "two-timer" involved with both a "boyfriend" and a "superstar." Consequently, she experiences ostracism on set, with crew members treating her like a manipulative figure rather than her character, Empress Xu. Jin Jing works tirelessly to manage the media crisis and appease Director Yang with handmade chocolates.

To mitigate the negative publicity, Jin Jing arranges a live interview for Lin Xiangxiang alongside Zhao Nana and Han Yufei. She explicitly instructs Lin Xiangxiang to deny any romantic involvement with Han Yufei and to describe Gong Ming as merely a "recently met friend" with "no special relationship." During the live broadcast, Han Yufei states that he and Lin Xiangxiang are simply "good brothers" and dismisses the rumors as misunderstandings stemming from their close friendship.

However, when asked about her publicly acknowledged relationship and current boyfriend, Lin Xiangxiang defiantly disregards Jin Jing's instructions. She describes Gong Ming in glowing terms: a bit stiff but smart, attentive, focused, and powerful, even when scolding others, concluding her description with a heartfelt confession: "The most important thing is that I like him very much." As she finishes her declaration, Gong Ming dramatically appears from behind the camera.

A surprised Lin Xiangxiang quickly pulls him away, concerned about the live broadcast. Gong Ming apologizes for the interruption and explains that he has returned to answer the question she once posed to him about his feelings. He then passionately declares his love for her, affirming that their encounter is predestined, and he will follow fate, as they are "destined to be together."

Gong Ming confessed his feelings for Lin Xiangxiang, declaring their encounter destined and his heart filled with her. Xiangxiang, after clarifying if he truly wanted to be with her, asked directly if he liked her, to which he affirmed his love. As they shared a sweet moment, staff called Xiangxiang back to a live interview.

Jin Jing, Xiangxiang’s manager, was furious about their public display of affection and forcibly pulled Xiangxiang away, although Xiangxiang asked Xia Xiaonan to look after Gong Ming before she left. During the interview, after Zhao Nana emphasized her focus on career, Xiangxiang publicly announced her relationship with Gong Ming, stating they were already together. She candidly shared details about their dates, like dining together and going shopping by taxi, remarking that everything felt special with him.

When asked about their first kiss, Xiangxiang openly admitted it happened not long ago, much to Jin Jing’s exasperation, who could be heard off-camera threatening to kill her. Xiangxiang even revealed she was the one who confessed first. Observing from the side, Han Yufei mocked Xiangxiang, implying Gong Ming didn't care for her much if she had to make all the moves, and dismissed Gong Ming’s conservative nature. He also belittled Xiangxiang’s beauty, saying it was just makeup and lighting.

Later, on set, Han Yufei continued to antagonize Xiangxiang both in and out of character, earning a warning from her to stop, and they argued because of Gong Ming. Zhao Nana also confronted Xiangxiang, sarcastically asking how her “cousin” had become her boyfriend and accusing her of faking a scandal to gain fame. Xiangxiang later received a revised script for her show.

To her surprise, it depicted Emperor Cheng of the Han Dynasty neglecting Zhao Feiyan and Empress Xu regaining her position. Confused, Xiangxiang approached the director, pointing out that this contradicted the historical accounts she knew, which stated Empress Xu was executed and Zhao Feiyan became empress. The director insisted the script was now based on historical facts.

Disturbed, Xiangxiang consulted online historical records and was stunned to find that the events of the first year of Yongshi had indeed changed, matching the new script. She realized history itself had been altered and suspected Gong Ming was behind it. Meanwhile, back in the Han Dynasty, Wang Mang had returned to Chang'an. The Wang family was enraged, trying to find out who had attacked him.

Wang Mang avoided naming Ying Yue, protecting her, and claimed not to know who had ambushed him. However, he was troubled by Wang Shu's testimony from prison, who claimed Gong Ming had coerced him into writing a confession and then vanished. Wang Mang couldn’t fathom how Gong Ming, supposedly in exile thousands of miles away, could have orchestrated such a precise plan. Ying Yue, worried about Wang Mang’s injury, secretly left medicine for him, which he later discovered.

Despite the family’s belief that Gong Ming was dealt with, Wang Mang continued to be perplexed by the intricate trap that led to his injury and the family’s downfall. Gong Ming, having returned to the modern era, sold some valuable Han Dynasty artifacts, acquiring a significant amount of money. He took Xiangxiang to a fancy Western restaurant, where she asked if Empress Xu's reinstatement in history was his doing.

Gong Ming chuckled, admitting he hadn't anticipated his actions would impact the entire historical timeline to such an extent, bringing about the empress’s restoration. Xiangxiang then wondered why she was the only one in the modern world who seemed aware of the historical changes, to which Gong Ming mused it was a strange twist of fate, perhaps even affecting her through the jade pendant. He proposed a toast to celebrate.

Gong Ming then presented Xiangxiang with numerous expensive gifts, including luxury bags picked with Xia Xiaonan’s help. He even playfully transformed into a cartoon character and danced to make her laugh. However, Xiangxiang, feeling overwhelmed by the valuable presents, returned all of them, stating they put too much pressure on her. She playfully called him a "stubborn Taurus" for his insistence on expensive gifts. Instead, she took him to buy a pair of simple couple rings.

During their conversation, when Gong Ming mentioned his close friend Ying Yue, who had saved his life multiple times and given him the jade pendant, Xiangxiang showed a hint of jealousy, noting that Ying Yue sounded like a girl’s name. Gong Ming then asked if men and women could truly be just friends, referencing her male friends, Xia Xiaonan and Han Yufei.

Xiangxiang reluctantly admitted that Han Yufei was her ex-boyfriend, leading Gong Ming to call Han Yufei a "fool" for having lost such a good woman and a good marriage. Later, Gong Ming told Xiangxiang that he needed to return to his time to handle various political matters, including visiting his place of exile to receive an imperial edict and then returning to Chang'an, which would take about a month.

Xiangxiang expressed her fear that he might not come back, especially since his mission to reinstate Empress Xu seemed complete. Gong Ming reassured her, stating that she was now his reason to return. He reminded her of their matching rings and promised to meet her again at that very spot in a month. Xiangxiang pledged to wait but worried about him traveling far and not being able to find him if he didn't return.

Gong Ming, referencing a historical tale of unwavering loyalty, vowed he would definitely come back. As he prepared to leave, he asked Xia Xiaonan to keep his modern possessions, explaining that modern items disappear when taken back to the Han Dynasty, citing an earlier incident with a handkerchief. Xiangxiang, worried for his safety during his month-long absence, tied a red rope around his wrist, explaining it was a prayer for his safe return.

As they said their goodbyes, Gong Ming, claiming he had forgotten something, leaned in and kissed her. Gong Ming then returned to 16 BCE, where he was immediately pursued by Zi Xiu. He suddenly suffered a splitting headache and collapsed.

Lin Xiangxiang and Gong Ming shared a sweet farewell, promising to meet again in a month. Meanwhile, Han Yufei was visibly upset to see the couple ring on Lin Xiangxiang’s hand, pointedly asking if the person who bought it couldn't even afford a diamond ring. News soon broke of Han Yufei’s late-night rendezvous with a new model, "Jela baby," a story the director lamented as another scandal.

Lin Xiangxiang confronted Han Yufei, remarking that his taste was still the same and asking if he was still considered a "playboy." Han Yufei vehemently denied the reports, insisting they were fake and that he hadn't even looked at the woman. Lin Xiangxiang dismissed his excuses, stating his actions were now meaningless to her.

Han Yufei, however, persisted, expressing his desire to start anew and claiming he could treat her well, a revelation that surprised the director, who then realized they had been a couple before. Separately, Jin Jing attempted to endear herself to Wu Tianxiu. Misunderstanding their relationship, Wu Tianxiu thought Jin Jing and Xiaonan were a couple. Jin Jing quickly clarified, disparaging Xiaonan as an annoying person who constantly called her and sabotaged her dates.

She asserted she would never be with him, further slandering Xiaonan by describing him as a sloppy drunk who kissed people randomly, regardless of gender. Later, Han Yufei arranged to meet Lin Xiangxiang at their old spot. He apologized for his past infidelity, admitting he had been immature and a "playboy." He confessed that he initially felt relieved after their breakup, finding her nagging burdensome, but soon realized he constantly missed her.

He pleaded with her to return, promising to change. Lin Xiangxiang acknowledged his good qualities and the beautiful moments of their past relationship, despite its unhappy end, and thanked him. However, she firmly stated that she now sought a happy ending with Gong Ming and told Han Yufei to let go. After Lin Xiangxiang rode her motorcycle home, she suddenly felt dizzy and fainted, causing a motorcycle accident that led to her hospitalization.

At the same time in the Western Han Dynasty, Gong Ming was in grave danger, pursued by Zi Xiu and his men. Zi Xiu's sword struck the jade pendant on Gong Ming's body, destroying it. Following its destruction, Gong Ming cried out in agony, clutching his head, and gradually lost all his memories of the modern world. Ying Yue, arriving with bodyguards, rescued the unconscious Gong Ming.

When Gong Ming awoke days later, he felt as though he had merely experienced a "Zhou Gong's dream," unable to recall the dream or any specific person from it, and completely forgetting his time in the modern era. Ying Yue informed him that he was at a post on his way to a place of exile and explained that he had been unjustly accused of killing a Taoist priest and involvement in a witchcraft incident related to the deposed empress.

Gong Ming vaguely remembered being attacked by Zi Xiu in a bamboo forest but couldn't understand how he ended up there or why he was exiled. When Lin Xiangxiang awoke in the hospital, she was informed that filming had to be postponed due to her accident. Han Yufei arrived, introducing himself as her boyfriend, a claim echoed by Jin Jing and Xiaonan.

Lin Xiangxiang vehemently asserted that Gong Ming was her boyfriend, but everyone claimed to have no memory of him. Thinking they were pranking her, Lin Xiangxiang was told by the doctor that her reactions were due to a concussion-induced stress response, possibly leading to "false memories" or amnesia, and recommended she see a psychiatrist. Han Yufei asked if she didn't remember their reconciliation, but Lin Xiangxiang accused him of bribing everyone to gaslight her.

She reminded Xiaonan of Gong Ming, recounting how they bought her gifts together, but Xiaonan insisted he didn't know anyone named Gong Ming and that he only opposed her rekindling a relationship with Han Yufei. Jin Jing, however, reiterated that Lin Xiangxiang had caused a stir at the airport over "a pervert" (referring to Gong Ming) and the scandal had made headlines.

Distraught, Lin Xiangxiang showed Xiaonan the couple ring, claiming she and Gong Ming chose it, only for Xiaonan to insist he accompanied her to buy it for Han Yufei. She then asked a nurse about a "pervert" in ancient clothes she encountered during a previous hospital visit, but the nurse stated it was her first visit.

Desperate for proof, Lin Xiangxiang visited the ring store, where the clerk confirmed she bought the ring with a man, but identified him as Han Yufei. After reviewing the surveillance footage, which showed no trace of Gong Ming, Lin Xiangxiang broke down, feeling isolated as everyone, including Nana, denied Gong Ming's existence. In the Han Dynasty, Gong Ming was tenderly cared for by Ying Yue. He recounted his fragmented memories, trying to understand how he came to be exiled.

Ying Yue explained he had been framed for murder and witchcraft, only to clear his name using the jade pendant. Gong Ming desperately searched for the jade pendant, but it was nowhere to be found, and his guards reported not seeing it when they rescued him. Gong Ming noticed a Red rope tied tightly around his wrist, a mysterious object he couldn't recall or remove, yet he hoped it was connected to his lost memories.

Ying Yue, concerned for his recovery, suggested they delay their journey to the place of exile, but Gong Ming insisted on returning promptly to receive the emperor’s edict. She lovingly tended to his injuries, wrapping him in a blanket. He expressed his gratitude, admitting he felt like a child in her care, and Ying Yue reciprocated that he had always looked after her too, fostering a subtle emotional connection between them.

Back in the modern world, Lin Xiangxiang, still in the hospital, remained deeply distressed. She recalled all her vivid memories with Gong Ming and, overwhelmed with grief, cried in Jin Jing's arms. Later, Han Yufei visited again, showing her photographs of them together in Hangzhou, eating Dongpo pork, attempting to convince her that these were their shared memories and that "Gong Ming" was a figment of her imagination.

Lin Xiangxiang’s cherished memories of Gong Ming began to blur, morphing into Han Yufei's image in some instances, causing her profound confusion and leading her to question the veracity of her own recollections. Han Yufei encouraged her to continue treatment, assuring her she would eventually remember everything.

Lin Xiangxiang sought help from a psychologist as her memories of Gong Ming grew increasingly hazy, making her doubt if she had ever truly met him. The psychologist suggested that her recollections of Gong Ming were illusory, a byproduct of her deep immersion in her role as Empress Xu, leading her to imagine the historical figure who aided the Empress.

However, Xiangxiang vehemently insisted on the vivid reality of her memories, recalling every word spoken and every action taken with him, and the undeniable feeling in her heart. She even remembered Gong Ming giving her a ring and her tying a red thread on his wrist before he returned to the Han Dynasty, questioning if these deeply personal moments were mere fantasies.

Despite this, she also acknowledged that during the filming of her current drama, she and Han Yufei had reconciled. Meanwhile, in the Western Han Dynasty, Gong Ming fell severely ill on his journey back to Chang'an, compelling Ying Yue to find him temporary refuge at the home of his mentor, Lord Zhang. At the same time, Wang Mang confronted Zi Xiu, who had repeatedly failed to obey orders to kill Gong Ming.

Zi Xiu explained that Gong Ming was not dead, but had lost his memory after being stabbed. He further revealed Gong Ming's mystical ability to vanish when attacked, hinting at witchcraft. Zi Xiu then presented Wang Mang with Gong Ming's shattered jade pendant, asserting that he only managed to wound Gong Ming after the pendant broke.

Wang Mang, intrigued, read an inscription on the jade: "Time changes, the world changes, encounter death and live," and recognized the pendant's immense importance to Gong Ming, noting his frantic search for it. At his mentor’s residence, Gong Ming was urged to rest and recover, with assurances that any vital forgotten memories would eventually resurface.

Gong Ming, however, expressed concern for Ying Yue's future, wishing to find a good family for her, as he felt he couldn't keep her by his side indefinitely. His mentor, perceiving a deeper connection, challenged Gong Ming’s claim that Ying Yue was merely like a sister to him, pressing him to confront his true feelings. Back in the modern world, Lin Xiangxiang returned to filming, actively avoiding Han Yufei's attempts at reconciliation.

Nevertheless, Jin Jing and other colleagues orchestrated opportunities for the couple to mend their relationship, including a dinner. Han Yufei recounted their first meeting and how he pursued her. Afterward, Jin Jing and the others strategically left them alone. Han Yufei later walked Xiangxiang home and, in a contrived attempt to draw her closer, faked a scary phone call, prompting her to grab his hand in fear.

He then proposed they start anew, promising to help her retrieve her lost memories. Xiangxiang, though still hesitant, agreed to try her best. One month after losing his memories, Gong Ming felt an unsettling sense of having forgotten something profoundly important. He inquired of Ying Yue if she would continue to accompany him, given her marriageable age. Ying Yue, fearing he would recall past events and regret his offer, asked for time to deliberate.

Gong Ming later inadvertently uttered a phrase about "the Empress finally returning to the Phoenix throne," causing Ying Yue to react with surprise. He questioned if this thought was a delusion, noting his month-long amnesia. An inexplicable pull led Gong Ming to the meeting spot he had shared with Lin Xiangxiang in the modern world.

When Ying Yue found him, she confessed her desire for a formal title, rather than just being a shadow in his life, despite believing herself an unworthy match. Gong Ming embraced her. Lin Xiangxiang, waiting forlornly at their designated meeting place, found Gong Ming never arrived. Han Yufei eventually located her, concerned that she was still fixated on "that non-existent person."

Weeping, Xiangxiang lamented Gong Ming's absence, clinging to their month-long promise, and began to question if her entire experience with him was a hallucination. Han Yufei consoled her, urging her to forget Gong Ming for their shared future. Back in the Han Dynasty, Gong Ming, now reinstated to his official post, sought an audience with Emperor Cheng. He advocated for the restoration of Empress Xu, highlighting her twenty years of loyal service and inner virtues.

Emperor Cheng promised to consider the request, though he was puzzled when Gong Ming, in a moment of confusion, referred to his own stubbornness as being a "Taurus." Gong Ming then visited Empress Xu, who was relieved to see him. She joyfully spoke of a secret "event that night," known only to them.

This comment triggered a fragmented recollection in Gong Ming’s mind, making him confused and deeply distressed, fearing he had committed an act of grave disrespect towards the Emperor by harboring inappropriate feelings for the Empress or mistaking someone else for her. Ying Yue, witnessing Gong Ming’s profound torment over his forgotten past, confided in his mentor, Lord Zhang.

The mentor reiterated his strict warning against ever mentioning the modern world or the jade pendant, deeming such revelations a violation of the will of Heaven. He emphasized that since the jade pendant was lost and Gong Ming had no memory of it, it was best to leave things undisturbed to avoid divine punishment, also acknowledging Ying Yue’s deep, almost infatuated, love for Gong Ming.

Meanwhile, Wang Mang continued to pore over the broken jade pendant, recalling Zi Xiu’s accounts of its miraculous ability to protect Gong Ming, and resolved to unlock its secrets. Later, at a party celebrating Han Yufei’s TV star nomination, he presented Lin Xiangxiang with a new necklace. Xiangxiang, though previously unwilling, reluctantly removed the couple ring she wore around her neck—the one Gong Ming had given her—to accept Han Yufei's gift, urged by Jin Jing.

Han Yufei then announced his intention to walk the red carpet with Xiangxiang at the upcoming L'Oréal Paris Stylish Man's Night award ceremony, publicly confirming their relationship. Despite some hesitation, Xiangxiang agreed. As Lin Xiangxiang and Han Yufei made their grand entrance on the red carpet, Gong Ming suddenly appeared from the crowd. He walked directly to Lin Xiangxiang, placed a ring in her hand, and, looking into her eyes, apologized for his delay.

Han Yufei attempts to kiss Lin Xiangxiang, but she recoils from his advances. Later, she tearfully confesses to Jin Jing that she can no longer deceive herself and must break up with Han Yufei. Lin Xiangxiang acknowledges that Han Yufei treats her very well and has made an effort to change for her, aspiring to be a good boyfriend. However, she can't continue to pretend.

Jin Jing vehemently opposes this decision, warning that it would severely damage Lin Xiangxiang's acting career, causing a backlash from fans and reporters. She reminds Lin Xiangxiang that she had initially opposed their reconciliation, and it was Lin Xiangxiang herself who decided to give the relationship another try, only to now want to end it.

Lin Xiangxiang explains that despite believing Gong Ming was a dream or a fantasy, he feels real in her heart, and she constantly thinks of him, even though she can no longer remember his face. Jin Jing insists that Gong Ming is merely an illusion and urges Lin Xiangxiang to embrace her successful reality. Lin Xiangxiang reluctantly agrees to try her best to forget Gong Ming and adapt to Han Yufei.

In the Han Dynasty, Gong Ming receives a letter from Wang Mang, inviting him to a meeting to share a "long story." Ying Yue expresses deep concern, suspecting a trap and reminding him that the Wang family has previously sent assassins after him. Gong Ming dismisses her fears, affirming his trust in Wang Mang and still considering him a confidant.

He tells Ying Yue that since he has prepared a betrothal gift for her, she is no longer his guard, and he wants to shield her from danger, despite her offer to accompany him. He then departs to meet Wang Mang. During their meeting, Gong Ming reveals to Wang Mang that he lost all his memories after discussing the political situation with him earlier.

He vaguely recalls a dispute where Wang Mang seemed to want to kill him, which Wang Mang denies. Wang Mang reiterates his past warnings to Gong Ming: to stop supporting the deposed empress and to cease opposing the Wang family, claiming Gong Ming refused to heed his advice. Wang Mang reasserts the immense power of the Wang family, suggesting Gong Ming's stubbornness led to his misfortune.

Gong Ming defiantly declares that he will always uphold justice and orthodoxy, even if he loses his life or memory multiple times, refusing to rely on the Wang family's influence. Wang Mang warns him that those who defy him will not find peace. Gong Ming then reveals his intention to marry Ying Yue, explaining her deep devotion and repeated sacrifices for him, confirming it is also her wish. Wang Mang is clearly surprised.

He then presents Gong Ming with a jade pendant, which Gong Ming recognizes as Ying Yue's, though he admits he has forgotten its function and briefly wonders if Wang Mang was the assassin who had it. Wang Mang returns the jade pendant as a congratulatory gift for their marriage. After Gong Ming departs, Wang Mang's subordinate, Zixiu, expresses worry that giving Gong Ming the jade pendant will enable him to use his "witchcraft" again.

Disregarding the warning, Wang Mang orders his men to fire arrows at Gong Ming. At that very moment, Gong Ming vanishes. Gong Ming finds himself transported to a swimming pool in the modern world, which he recognizes as "the world two thousand years later." He gets dressed and unknowingly walks to the place he had agreed upon with Lin Xiangxiang.

He calls Lin Xiangxiang's phone number, but Jin Jing answers, dismissing his formal speech as a "ghost call" from a stranger. Gong Ming then encounters Lin Xiangxiang in person and asks if she recognizes him, but she states it's their first meeting. Han Yufei, her boyfriend, quickly escorts her away, disturbed by the "strange man." Lin Xiangxiang is also confused by the strange phone call and encounter.

Soon after, Gong Ming receives a package containing the couple's rings, which Lin Xiangxiang had left at the hotel. As he puts on one of the rings, his memories of Lin Xiangxiang fully return. Meanwhile, Lin Xiangxiang attends the "L'Oreal Paris Sportsman Night" awards ceremony, walking the red carpet with Han Yufei. As she walks, Gong Ming appears, walks up to her, and takes her hand, placing the ring in it.

He apologizes for being late, but Lin Xiangxiang, still suffering from memory loss, does not recognize him and is bewildered by his actions. Gong Ming seeks out Jin Jing and Xiaonan, who have now received more calls from him and confront him in person. They reiterate that he is a "stalker" and that Lin Xiangxiang does not know him.

Gong Ming clarifies that Lin Xiangxiang herself gave him her number and shows them the ring, explaining how he and Lin Xiangxiang bought it. Xiaonan notices his story aligns with things Lin Xiangxiang had mentioned. Jin Jing, however, firmly states that there is no "Gong Ming" in Lin Xiangxiang's life and that she is now very happy with her boyfriend, Han Yufei.

Upon learning that Lin Xiangxiang is "happy" and that his presence makes her "fatigued," Gong Ming becomes disheartened, deciding it is best for her happiness if he leaves and causes no further trouble. Meanwhile, Lin Xiangxiang, wearing the ring Gong Ming gave her, is overwhelmed by a rush of memories. His image becomes clear in her mind, and she suddenly remembers everything, including their one-month promise and his vow of "holding on until death do we part."

Realizing that the man on the red carpet was indeed Gong Ming, she immediately rushes out to find him. She first goes to a coffee shop where Jin Jing and Xiaonan mentioned meeting him, but he is already gone. Distraught, she hurries to their pre-arranged meeting spot, desperately hoping to find him. Just as she is about to give up, Gong Ming, who had decided to turn back, reappears.

Lin Xiangxiang runs into his arms, crying and apologizing for having forgotten him. Gong Ming, in turn, apologizes for being late and for failing to keep his promise due to his memory loss. Lin Xiangxiang tearfully expresses her frustration at waiting so long for him. He reassures her that his memory has fully returned and proves it by recalling intimate details, including their first meeting, when they decided to be together, and even their first kiss. They embrace tightly, their lost memories and profound connection finally restored.

Lin Xiangxiang, having quickly reunited with Gong Ming, arrived at the award ceremony to prevent Han Yufei from publicly announcing their relationship. Jin Jing expressed regret for having told Lin Xiangxiang about Gong Ming's appearance, as Xiangxiang subsequently went to find him. Han Yufei, searching for Lin Xiangxiang, was told by Jin Jing that Xiangxiang was merely nervous and getting some fresh air.

Upon meeting Han Yufei, Lin Xiangxiang asked him not to reveal their relationship publicly, promising to explain everything after the ceremony. Han Yufei, though puzzled, reluctantly agreed to her request. Back in the West Han Dynasty, Gong Ming, holding his jade pendant, reflected on who might wish him dead, suspecting Wang Mang. His subordinate, Zi Xiu, insisted they eliminate Gong Ming swiftly, fearing his unusual abilities.

However, Wang Mang, driven by his unrequited love for Ying Yue and his intense jealousy of Gong Ming, revealed his intricate plan: he would set a "dragnet" to trap Gong Ming, leading to his self-destruction. Wang Mang relished the thought, recalling various interactions with Ying Yue, including her composing a poem about "the far-off moonlight," and his past anger at the idea of her marrying Gong Ming due to their differing social statuses.

He vividly remembered a time he heard Gong Ming declare his intention to marry Ying Yue, recognizing her deep affection and loyalty. Upon Gong Ming's return, Ying Yue, worried for his safety, expressed relief. Gong Ming confessed that he had regained all his memories of the future, two thousand years later, and of the girl he met there. Though heartbroken, Ying Yue put on a brave face, happy that he had found the one he loves.

She then bravely suggested they call off their betrothal, emphasizing that their relationship as siblings was enough for her, despite her profound inner pain. Gong Ming questioned her sincerity. Ying Yue then raised her concern that Wang Mang, having returned Gong Ming's jade pendant, might now be aware of its secret power. Gong Ming reassured her that even if Wang Mang knew, no one would believe him, and promised to act cautiously.

Ying Yue then confirmed her decision was for his own good and that she was fine, sending him to rest, though her internal turmoil was evident as she earlier desired a formal status with him, not just to watch his back. Lin Xiangxiang met with Han Yufei away from the award ceremony party, where she attempted to break up with him. She apologized, explaining she liked Gong Ming.

Han Yufei dismissed Gong Ming as an "imaginary man," refused to accept the breakup, and left angrily. Meanwhile, Gong Ming patiently waited for Lin Xiangxiang, confessing he enjoyed simply watching her. As they walked together, Han Yufei spotted them. Lin Xiangxiang bravely introduced Gong Ming as her boyfriend, shocking Han Yufei, who struggled to comprehend Gong Ming's sudden re-appearance. Jin Jing, witnessing the scene, voiced her concern about Gong Ming being a "mental construct."

When Han Yufei tried to forcefully take Lin Xiangxiang, Gong Ming stopped him. As a crowd of onlookers gathered and began to take photos, Jin Jing quickly intervened and pulled them away from the escalating public spectacle. After being pulled away, Lin Xiangxiang tried to explain the complex situation to a disbelieving Han Yufei, who insisted Gong Ming was an imaginary figure. Lin Xiangxiang simply apologized and reiterated her desire to break up.

Gong Ming stepped in, rebuking Han Yufei for his disrespect towards Lin Xiangxiang. Han Yufei, refusing to let go of Lin Xiangxiang, prompted a physical confrontation with Gong Ming. Gong Ming asserted that Lin Xiangxiang was never truly Han Yufei's, and they were merely "returning to how things were." Han Yufei, enraged, claimed they were about to get engaged, to which Lin Xiangxiang visibly rolled her eyes.

Han Yufei insulted Gong Ming, and Gong Ming, in turn, quoted ancient proverbs, calling Han Yufei childish and comparing his age to that of his ancestors fifty generations prior. The confrontation escalated at a bar. Han Yufei challenged Gong Ming to a drinking game, where the loser must drink. Gong Ming, unfamiliar with the game but willing to participate, repeatedly lost and drank the potent alcohol, vowing to "see it through to the end."

Han Yufei continued to taunt Gong Ming, mocking his "big hands" and "large feet" and questioning his masculinity, calling him an "old-fashioned ancient person" unworthy of an artist like Lin Xiangxiang. Gong Ming retorted by implying Han Yufei was having an "illicit affair" with another woman while dating Lin Xiangxiang, which finally pushed Han Yufei to throw a punch. A brawl broke out, attracting onlookers who started filming.

Jin Jing frantically tried to control the situation as Lin Xiangxiang pulled a bleeding Gong Ming away. Despite his injury, Gong Ming revealed a newfound sense of "elated" freedom from having "thrown a punch" for the first time in anger. He reassured Lin Xiangxiang that he genuinely liked her spirited temperament. Lin Xiangxiang expressed concern for Han Yufei, to which Gong Ming admitted his own fault, acknowledging he was hypocritical.

Lin Xiangxiang forgave him, but made him promise not to leave, proposing they go somewhere together, away from the chaos. Fearing she might lose Gong Ming again, Lin Xiangxiang, after a moment of hesitation where she almost discarded his jade pendant, ultimately could not bring herself to do so. She took him to her childhood home, which Gong Ming described as "quiet, elegant, and peaceful."

Inside, she shared old family photos, including some of her "silly" childhood, which Gong Ming affectionately called "childlike innocence" and "cute," along with pictures from her drama school days, finding her outfits "strange" and "embarrassing." She poignantly explained her mother's passing and her father's absence due to business, highlighting why she treasured the empty house for its cherished memories. Gong Ming empathized, sensing her longing for her mother.

Lin Xiangxiang then recounted a childhood anecdote about running away with her piggy bank after a fight with her mother, only to realize she had nowhere to go, returning home to find her mother crying and later cooking her favorite "spicy chicken." Inspired by the memory, they decided to make spicy chicken and headed to a large supermarket, which Gong Ming found astounding.

While grocery shopping, Lin Xiangxiang playfully offered Gong Ming an apple, explaining its symbolism as "temptation" through stories like Troy's golden apple and Snow White's poisoned apple. She then handed him an orange, noting it represented "pure love," and jokingly gave him a fruit that symbolized "dullness," saying it suited him perfectly. Back home, Lin Xiangxiang, admitting her long absence from cooking, suggested Gong Ming learn to cook, explaining that modern men often cook and are popular.

Gong Ming initially noted that Han Dynasty men would never do women's chores, but expressed willingness to learn and try. As she prepared the spicy chicken, she added an excessive amount of chopped chili. During the cooking, she playfully chided Gong Ming for his bluntness, suggesting he adopt a "gentle and sweet" demeanor like modern men.

Gong Ming bravely ate the spicy chicken, initially feigning enjoyment, but later confessed it was "too spicy," although he expressed delight in learning to joke like modern people. He then expressed a heartfelt desire to stay and experience modern life with her. When he attempted to help with dishes, he reiterated that men in the Han Dynasty would never do women's chores but expressed his willingness to learn, asking Lin Xiangxiang to teach him.

She helped him put on an apron. He openly stated his wish to remain in the present and live this life with her. Concurrently, in the Han Dynasty, Wang Mang repeatedly sought an audience with Emperor Cheng but was consistently denied. The imperial attendant revealed that the Emperor was deliberately avoiding any members of the Wang family, making it clear to Wang Mang that the Emperor now regarded his powerful family with suspicion.

Lin Xiangxiang taught Gong Ming how to ride a bicycle, describing it as the greatest invention of modern times. She patiently guided him, encouraging him as he quickly grasped the skill. Gong Ming found it as exhilarating as riding a horse for the first time decades ago. Xiangxiang remarked that it had been years since someone had given her a ride, to which Gong Ming replied it was his honor.

Meanwhile, in the Han Dynasty, the Wang family was in turmoil after Emperor Cheng of the Han Dynasty refused an audience with Wang Mang. They feared losing the Emperor's favor, but some suggested they still had Zhao Jieyu, who was favored by the Emperor, to rely on. Wang Mang, however, dismissed relying on such a "fox" and declared he had his own comprehensive plan to stop Empress Xu from being reinstated and reverse their unfavorable situation.

He then rallied a group of men, promising them wealth and glory if they proved loyal and acted as "dead soldiers" in his grand scheme. Back in modern times, Han Yufei was found heavily drunk by Wu Tianxiu. Despite receiving an award he had long coveted, Han Yufei was distraught, unable to comprehend that the "man in Xiangxiang's imagination" actually existed.

He questioned if Lin Xiangxiang had been using him from the start or was cheating, finding both answers intolerable as it contradicted the Xiangxiang he knew. Wu Tianxiu tried to comfort him by jokingly admitting his own "playboy" past and suggesting this was karma, which surprisingly helped Han Yufei feel a little better, acknowledging Wu Tianxiu as the only one brave enough to speak the truth.

After their bike ride, Lin Xiangxiang and Gong Ming relaxed when Lin Xiangxiang received a call from her manager, Jing Jie. Jing Jie urged her to watch TV, where Han Yufei was seen drunk at an event, publicly implying problems in his relationship with Lin Xiangxiang and stating that one of them would have to withdraw from their drama. Realizing the gravity of the situation, Lin Xiangxiang knew she had to return to deal with it, despite Gong Ming's reassurances.

She expressed her fear of him disappearing again, and they shared a tender moment before she left. Upon her return to the film set, Lin Xiangxiang learned from the director that either she or Han Yufei would have to leave the production due to his refusal to work with her. She resolved to talk to Han Yufei, who was also at the set.

Han Yufei remained unyielding, reiterating that he could not cooperate with her and insisted that one of them must quit. He accused her of cheating and using him for fame, especially after she admitted to liking Gong Ming. Lin Xiangxiang passionately defended Gong Ming, stating he was not the "bastard" Han Yufei portrayed him to be, and urged Han Yufei to maintain professionalism to avoid disrupting the drama's production, but he refused, prioritizing his personal feelings.

After her tense encounter with Han Yufei, Lin Xiangxiang was distraught when Gong Ming briefly returned to the Han Dynasty to speak with his mentor. Fearing he would not return and might lose his memory again, she cried anxiously. However, Gong Ming soon reappeared in modern times.

He comforted her, explaining he had seen his mentor and had firmly decided to stay permanently in the modern world with her, promising to conclude his affairs in the Han Dynasty as quickly as possible and return for good. Back in the Han Dynasty, Wang Mang, burdened by the responsibility of his family, painfully decided to eliminate Gong Ming.

He led his family to seek an audience with Queen Mother Wang Zhengjun, accusing Gong Ming of using witchcraft to frame Wang Shu and destabilize the court. At the same time, Gong Ming's mentor informed Ying Yue that Gong Ming had decided to remain in the modern world to marry Lin Xiangxiang, as his mission in Dahan was concluding with Empress Xu's impending reinstatement.

Ying Yue, devastated, confronted Gong Ming, questioning if he would truly abandon everything in Dahan and defy destiny for one woman. Gong Ming affirmed his decision, stating he would have no regrets, even if it meant death, and encouraged Ying Yue to live her own life instead of being his shadow. Meanwhile, Han Yufei's continued refusal to film with Lin Xiangxiang forced the director to use Xia Xiaonan as a stand-in for scenes involving the emperor.

Han Yufei's fans, incensed by the public drama, surrounded and verbally attacked Lin Xiangxiang, accusing her of using Han Yufei for publicity. Xia Xiaonan bravely stepped in to protect her and was physically assaulted by the angry fans, losing some of his hair in the commotion. Despite being shaken, Lin Xiangxiang remained composed, stating she would let her work speak for itself. Gong Ming prepared to formally resign from his official post in the Han Dynasty.

He transferred his family assets and his residence to Ying Yue, who was concerned for his safety and insisted on accompanying him to the palace as his last act of protection. During his audience with Emperor Cheng, Gong Ming humbly requested to retire from public life and live in seclusion, citing his desire to pursue new knowledge.

He also offered a heartfelt warning to the Emperor about the excessive power of the Wang family, particularly stressing the presence of unscrupulous individuals among them, and urged the Emperor to govern with benevolence, curb the influence of foreign relatives, and root out corrupt officials. While initially disheartened by Gong Ming's departure, Emperor Cheng commended his integrity and ultimately granted his request for resignation and retirement.

Gong Ming and his mentor discussed the Queen Mother's unusual invitation for him to a spring event, sensing a potential trap by the Wang family. Gong Ming believed it would be his final encounter with Wang Mang before leaving the Han Dynasty permanently and resolved to attend. During this public gathering, an assassin, orchestrated by Wang Mang, attacked Gong Ming. In front of the assembled officials and Queen Mother Wang Zhengjun, Gong Ming vanished into thin air.

The assassin then loudly accused Gong Ming of using witchcraft before taking his own life. Gong Ming reappeared in modern times, still dressed in his Han Dynasty attire. He hurried to a library to research and discovered that both his own fate and that of Empress Xu had changed in the historical records, now indicating accusations of witchcraft altered their fates. Lin Xiangxiang also noticed the alterations to history.

Rushing home, she found Gong Ming unconscious and immediately took him to the hospital. In Chang'an, news of Gong Ming's alleged use of witchcraft spread rapidly. Wang Mang declared that Gong Ming posed a threat to the Emperor, and Queen Mother Wang Zhengjun pressured Emperor Cheng, who reluctantly issued an imperial warrant for Gong Ming's arrest.

Gong Ming made the difficult decision to return to Dahan to resolve his affairs, vowing to Lin Xiangxiang that he would come back to her once everything was settled. Though heartbroken, Lin Xiangxiang reluctantly agreed to let him go, promising that she would wait for his safe return. Gong Ming explained that if he did not return, Empress Xu would face an unjust and tragic death.

He emphasized that his mission to restore Empress Xu had been the focus of his life, and while meeting Lin Xiangxiang had made his days more precious, he could not forgive himself if Empress Xu died due to his oversight. Lin Xiangxiang insisted that he must honor his promise to return unharmed, stating she wouldn't watch him go, trusting he would be back soon and never break his word.

Upon his return to Dahan, Gong Ming walked the streets, overhearing whispers about his alleged use of witchcraft and accusations that he colluded with the deposed empress to frame the Wang family, leading to Jinwu Wang Shu's death. He quickly sought out Ying Yue, who was concerned about his recent sword injury. Gong Ming assured her he was fine, stating that modern doctors were as skilled as Bian Que, so she needn't worry.

He expressed regret for being so negligent, admitting he had still considered Wang Mang a friend and thus relaxed his guard, failing to anticipate Wang Mang's schemes, including the Empress Dowager's suspicious invitation. Ying Yue urged Gong Ming to leave, explaining that the jade pendant's power was now widely known, putting him in grave danger. However, Gong Ming refused to abandon his mission.

He declared that his own impeachment was insignificant, but he could not allow Empress Xu to remain in a desperate situation because of him. He insisted he would not leave until he had rectified this. When the Northern Army arrived at the door, Ying Yue begged him to escape, but Gong Ming resolutely refused, prepared to face them.

He confessed to Ying Yue his regret for not listening to her advice earlier and for stubbornly using the jade pendant, which had led to the current disaster. He then entrusted her with the real jade pendant, requesting one last favor. Meanwhile, Empress Xu's attendant suggested that she should shift all blame onto Gong Ming. Empress Xu firmly rejected this, stating she would never frame a loyal person and would rather suffer punishment alongside him if he were falsely accused.

She acknowledged that the Wang family had repeatedly acted against her, but if Emperor Cheng doubted her and Gong Ming, she would accept the consequences with him. A palace attendant soon informed her that Gong Ming had been brought into the palace and was in the side hall. Gong Ming was brought before Emperor Cheng and presented a jade pendant, claiming he was wounded and had been recovering, which was why he had not appeared earlier.

However, a member of the Wang family accused him of disappearing before his injury, citing multiple witnesses, and demanded he confess to using witchcraft with his jade pendant. Gong Ming asserted that the deposed empress was innocent and that the Wang family had framed both of them to cover up their attempt to assassinate the deposed empress.

Emperor Cheng, who had always trusted Gong Ming's honesty, asked him directly if he had used witchcraft or placed the letter in Xuanshi Palace. Before Gong Ming could fully answer, Queen Mother Wang stormed in, demanding that Emperor Cheng punish Gong Ming without delay. She refused to accept his lack of concrete evidence, citing numerous witnesses, and accused him of only trusting Gong Ming. She pressured him to immediately order an arrow punishment.

Later, Ying Yue visited Gong Ming in prison, questioning why he had entrusted her with the jade pendant, realizing he intended to face the arrow punishment with a fake one and sacrifice his life. Gong Ming explained his agonizing choice: if he used the jade pendant to save himself, his witchcraft would be exposed, endangering Empress Xu. But if he died without using it, he could clear her name.

He asked Ying Yue if Empress Xu's life was not worth saving. Ying Yue tearfully pleaded with him not to die, but Gong Ming, looking at the red rope on his hand, reaffirmed his resolve, stating he was not afraid of death. He then confided his regret that he hadn't had time to properly bid farewell to Lin Xiangxiang. During the public arrow punishment, Emperor Cheng declared that Gong Ming's death would prove his innocence from witchcraft.

Gong Ming accepted his fate, but made one final request: that if he died, Emperor Cheng would restore Empress Xu's innocence. Emperor Cheng agreed, but warned that if Gong Ming were to disappear, he must never return, and Empress Xu would still face consequences. As the arrows were prepared, Lin Xiangxiang, back in the modern era, suddenly felt a sharp pain and became unwell during filming, causing a prop to break and halting production.

She apologized to the director, explaining she felt too unwell to continue. Gong Ming then made a final, unexpected request: he asked that Wang Mang, his only confidant, be the one to shoot the arrow that would end his life. A court official wondered if Gong Ming was trying to sway the Emperor, believing he would simply disappear. Emperor Cheng asked Wang Mang if he could carry out the order, and Wang Mang reluctantly agreed.

As Wang Mang drew his bow, Gong Ming recalled Lin Xiangxiang's heartfelt plea that he must not die or be harmed, and a faint smile touched his lips as he calmly prepared for death. Wang Mang, with tears in his eyes, released the arrow. Gong Ming was struck and fell, his gaze fixed on Wang Mang. Emperor Cheng, shocked, immediately ordered the imperial physicians to treat Gong Ming and transport him to the Imperial Physician's Office.

In the modern era, Lin Xiangxiang, overwhelmed by a sudden surge of pain, later learned through an online search that Gong Ming had died in 16 BC, entrapped by the Wang family group and killed by arrows. Unable to bear the devastating news, she collapsed on the film set, with her crew rushing to her aid.

Emperor Cheng was enraged by what he believed was Gong Ming's death, vowing to severely punish all who conspired against him and Empress Xu. A court physician reported that Gong Ming's meridians were severed, stating he was beyond help. Emperor Cheng angrily summoned those who claimed to have seen Gong Ming disappear, threatening to gouge out their "useless eyes" for allowing his loyal minister to die unjustly.

He blamed his own oversight for believing their lies and pledged to uncover the truth behind Gong Ming's murder and the false accusations against Empress Xu. Meanwhile, in the modern era, Lin Xiangxiang awoke, distraught by Gong Ming's presumed death. Her manager, Jin Jing, was deeply concerned, trying to comfort her. Lin Xiangxiang’s friend, Tianxiu, also called Jin Jing, relaying their mutual friend Fei's worry about Xiangxiang, who refused to go to the hospital and chose to return home.

Back in the Han Dynasty, Emperor Cheng's wrath spread throughout the Wang family, even jeopardizing the Empress Dowager's position. The family patriarchs, realizing the severity of the situation, decided that Wang Mang must bear the full responsibility for his errors. They confronted Wang Mang, stating that despite trusting his judgment in their plan, Gong Ming was shockingly shot to death in front of everyone.

They questioned how Gong Ming, his close friend, could have died when many, including themselves, witnessed him disappear, and the jade pendant's power was real. They speculated Gong Ming must have taken his own life. The elders concluded that to appease the Emperor's anger, Wang Mang had to take the fall. Wang Mang accepted his fate, stating he would obey their command.

Separately, Wang Mang questioned a humble servant about Gong Ming’s final moments, asking if he suffered or had any last words. The servant revealed that by the time he arrived, Gong Ming's body had already vanished, deepening Wang Mang's suspicion about Gong Ming's true fate. What the Han officials didn't know was that Gong Ming was not truly dead.

Days earlier, he had met with his mentor, revealing a dangerous plan to expose himself and the jade pendant's power, knowing it would put Empress Xu in peril. His mentor expressed concern for Gong Ming's life and asked if Ying Yue was aware of the scheme, to which Gong Ming replied he wished to keep her out of it.

Despite the risks, Gong Ming was resolved, prompting his mentor to agree to help but with a strict condition: if Gong Ming miraculously survived, he was never to return to the Great Han Dynasty, as he would be considered dead there, and all matters of the Han court would be left to others. In the modern era, Gong Ming had already pre-arranged with a doctor, foretelling his severe injury and appearance at the hospital.

When Gong Ming was critically injured in the Han Dynasty, his mentor confirmed his pulse was weak, indicating imminent death, and Ying Yue arrived, rushing to aid in his transfer to the modern era, tearfully praying for his safety. In the modern world, Lin Xiangxiang unexpectedly received a text message from Gong Ming, written days prior, apologizing for his impending disappearance and expressing his fear that his death would cause her pain.

He asked if she would come to him if fate allowed him to survive. Overjoyed, Lin Xiangxiang rushed to the hospital, frantically asking if a patient named Gong Ming had been admitted, only to be told no. Just as despair set in, Gong Ming appeared before her.

He expressed his joy at seeing her, and after she slapped him in anger and grief, he held her tightly, apologizing and admitting she was the last person he thought of before what he believed would be his death. He confessed his love, promising to "hold your hand and grow old together." Lin Xiangxiang reciprocated his feelings, relieved he was alive.

At home, Lin Xiangxiang was still upset, scolding Gong Ming for breaking his promise not to lose "even a single hair." Gong Ming explained that he had gambled on his friendship with Wang Mang, and indeed Wang Mang's arrow had narrowly missed his heart, and that he had no other option but this desperate plan. He confessed that at the moment of perceived death, he desperately longed to live and see her again.

He assured her he could no longer return to the Han Dynasty as he was now considered dead there, and with Lin Xiangxiang by his side, he had "nothing more to ask for." Emperor Cheng, though saddened by Wang Mang’s perceived role in Gong Ming’s death, spared his life due to their deep friendship, instead assigning him to a temporary sinecure to repent at home, while other Wang family officials were stripped of their ranks and exiled.

Zhao Feiyan, seeing Wang Mang's diminished status, broke her alliance with him and quickly aligned herself with Chun Yuchang, the Empress Dowager's nephew, who offered her family's support and flattered her with promises of becoming Empress. Wang Mang, overhearing an older Wang family member recount his bullied childhood and Gong Ming's past kindness, felt a renewed sense of bitterness, realizing that Gong Ming had indeed become an obstacle to his ambition.

He seethed, believing Gong Ming was still alive, mocking him for "living ignominiously" and hiding like an ant, accusing him of deceiving the Emperor and leaving him in despair. He vowed to make a comeback, recalling the childhood slights from Chun Yuchang and Ying Yue's unwavering loyalty to Gong Ming over him. Lin Xiangxiang, having missed considerable work due to her emotional turmoil, returned to filming.

Her manager, Jin Jing, joked about her erratic behavior, suggesting she might have bipolar disorder, but Lin Xiangxiang attributed it to being too immersed in her role and fatigue. Meanwhile, Gong Ming began to integrate into modern life, diligently studying simplified Chinese characters and learning about the world from Lin Xiangxiang’s books, including places like Spain. In the Han Dynasty, Empress Xu was still mourning Gong Ming's supposed death.

Chun Yuchang visited, expressing loyalty, but Empress Xu remained wary of the Wang family's true intentions. She soon discovered she was pregnant but decided to keep the news secret, fearing it could put her and the unborn child in further danger given the precarious political situation. However, Zi Xiu, Wang Mang's subordinate, uncovered Empress Xu's pregnancy and immediately informed Wang Mang, who saw it as a golden opportunity to regain his power and turn his fortunes around.

Gong Ming, despite his promise to Lin Xiangxiang, couldn't shake his concern for the Han Dynasty. As he and Lin Xiangxiang looked at potential new homes, his distraction was evident. Lin Xiangxiang confronted him, accusing him of still having his heart in the past and asking if he intended to return, despite his earlier promise to "hold her hand and grow old together."

When Gong Ming hesitated, citing Empress Xu's potential danger, Lin Xiangxiang angrily tried to throw away the jade pendant, declaring she would make it disappear so he could never return. Gong Ming quickly embraced her, apologizing for causing her distress. Wang Mang, however, met with Ying Yue, asking about Gong Ming's whereabouts. From her reaction, Wang Mang understood that Gong Ming was still alive, realizing Ying Yue would have killed him otherwise.

Wang Mang then informed the Wang family of Empress Xu's pregnancy and began spreading rumors that the child belonged to the deceased Gong Ming, aiming to frame her for infidelity and ensure her demise. While reading one of Lin Xiangxiang's modern scripts, Gong Ming learned of this vicious plot. Gong Ming's fear of Wang Mang's growing ambition intensified. The Wang family elders agreed to let Wang Mang handle the matter but warned him to be careful.

Further historical research revealed to Gong Ming that Wang Mang was destined to depose the Han Emperor and usurp the throne. It was then that Wang Mang, fueled by this new ambition, also privately vowed to crush the "old men" of his family who had abandoned him, recalling his mother's poisoning by the Wang family for trying to prevent him from entering officialdom.

Unable to ignore the impending crisis and Empress Xu's grave danger, Gong Ming made the painful decision to return to the Western Han Dynasty to intervene. Lin Xiangxiang, emotionally exhausted by the constant fear and uncertainty, declared she could no longer endure such a life and ended their relationship.

Prior to Gong Ming's definitive return to the Western Han Dynasty, Wang Mang encountered Ying Yue. Observing her lack of profound grief or vengeance, he deduced that Gong Ming must still be alive. Later, Gong Ming returned to the Western Han Dynasty, where rumors about Empress Xu and him were widely circulating in Chang'an. His mentor, surprised by his reappearance, reminded him that no one can change history.

He warned that Emperor Cheng would undoubtedly investigate the current rampant rumors, providing the Wang family an opportunity to further their schemes. The mentor acknowledged Wang Mang's daring strategy of finding a way to survive after being pushed to the brink as a clever tactic. Gong Ming revealed that he was aware of Wang Mang's even grander plans and had returned to stop him.

He decided to seek out Wang Mang one last time, though Ying Yue expressed concern that such an effort might prove futile. When Ying Yue inquired about Lin Xiangxiang, Gong Ming expressed sorrow for repeatedly abandoning her, believing their destiny was likely over, and that his departure would ultimately bring her liberation from constant worry.

Before Gong Ming's current return to the Han Dynasty, the Wang family elders had been discussing the urgent news of Empress Xu's pregnancy, which had been confirmed by imperial doctors. Fearing a potential resurgence of the Xu family that could endanger their own clan, they pressed Wang Mang, who held a prominent position due to their support, to take decisive action.

Wang Mang proposed a clever scheme to spread rumors, suggesting that Empress Xu's pregnancy was not the Emperor's, but rather the result of an illicit affair with the supposedly deceased Gong Ming. He argued that Gong Ming's prior frequent presence around Empress Xu, coupled with her visible grief after his "death," would lend credibility to such falsehoods. This "collective slander," he explained, would transform the Emperor's child into Gong Ming's "bastard," enraging the Emperor and leading to Empress Xu's downfall.

Despite initial reservations about the Emperor's potential fury, the elders approved the plan, reminding Wang Mang of his obligation to the family due to his mother's long-term illness and their financial support. Wang Mang vowed to repay their "kindness." Wang Mang then reflected on his traumatic past, recalling his ailing mother's desperate attempts to keep him from entering officialdom after the early deaths of his father and brother, hoping to protect him.

However, she subsequently contracted a strange, fatal illness, which Wang Mang now believed was a deliberate poisoning orchestrated by the clan to eliminate her as an obstacle. He swore to trample down the elders who had once humiliated him and to exact revenge for his mother's death. Gong Ming sent an unsigned letter to Wang Mang, containing a familiar "fu", inviting him to their childhood academy.

Wang Mang recognized the style, realizing Gong Ming was still alive, and proceeded to the designated meeting place. At the academy, Gong Ming thanked Wang Mang for intentionally sparing his life, noting how the arrow had missed him by precisely an inch. He implored Wang Mang to "return to his senses." Wang Mang, however, asserted that their paths had irrevocably diverged, making them bitter adversaries.

He claimed that his true confidant had died when he sacrificed himself to resolve the deposed empress's crisis. Gong Ming countered, accusing Wang Mang of exploiting his presumed death to spread malicious rumors about Empress Xu's pregnancy and directly challenged him regarding his ambition to "usurp power and steal the country." Wang Mang openly admitted his ambition, arguing that the Han Dynasty was crumbling under an "incompetent and unprincipled" Emperor and corrupt, greedy officials, causing widespread suffering among the populace.

He contended that only a new country, founded "for the public good," could establish true peace and stability. Gong Ming, in turn, argued that genuine salvation lay in reforming the existing Han dynasty rather than overthrowing it. Wang Mang dismissed Gong Ming's views as outdated and rigid, likening the Han Dynasty to a terminally ill patient that required complete destruction for a new rebirth.

He declared his unwillingness to trust Gong Ming, viewing him as a powerless ghost, incapable of hindering his grand plans. Yet, Gong Ming firmly reiterated his resolve to stop him. Later, Gong Ming reviewed historical texts and was horrified to discover Wang Mang's ultimate intention to abolish the Han imperial title and declare himself Emperor.

Meanwhile, in the modern world, Lin Xiangxiang had confronted Gong Ming about his repeated departures and returns, expressing her profound inability to endure the constant emotional toll. She confessed her helplessness, capable only of tracking his fate through history books, and her self-loathing for being unable to protect him. She demanded he make a definitive choice between their two worlds.

At a birthday party for their director, Lin Xiangxiang attempted to project an image of happiness, deflecting any inquiries about her relationship. However, Han Yufei sensed her underlying sadness and gently encouraged her to stay strong. During the festivities, Wu Tianxiu publicly declared his love for a female crew member, praising her care and admitting his long-held secret affection. This came as a crushing blow to Jin Jing, who had secretly harbored feelings for Wu Tianxiu.

Devastated, Jin Jing retreated to drink heavily with Xia Xiaonan, lamenting her fate as a "lonely star" with a "bumpy road in love." Lin Xiangxiang, attempting to console a crying Jin Jing, eventually broke down herself, revealing her own profound heartache from her breakup. As a tearful Lin Xiangxiang prepared to leave the party alone, declining Han Yufei's offer of a ride, he insisted she take his scarf, concerned for her warmth. Unseen by them, Gong Ming, having temporarily returned to the modern era, silently witnessed this tender interaction before disappearing once more.

Gong Ming told his mentor and Ying Yue that Wang Mang was resolute in his ambitions, and that killing him seemed the only way to stop him. However, remembering their past friendship and how Wang Mang had intentionally missed an arrow aimed at him, Gong Ming found himself unable to take Wang Mang’s life.

Instead, he planned to end Wang Mang’s political career, believing that using the ingenious "ways of dealing with the world" learned from the future was the only effective method against Wang Mang's machinations. He declared that he would rely on his mentor and Ying Yue for this. Ying Yue then stated she would seek help from a classmate studying traditional Chinese medicine to combine traditional and modern medical techniques for their plan.

Meanwhile, in the modern era, Lin Xiangxiang felt unwell and wanted to go home alone. Han Yufei offered her a ride, but she politely declined, opting for a taxi. He playfully teased her about being a "big star" taking a taxi, to which she retorted that she was just a newcomer, unlike the "national idol Han Yufei." Noticing the cold, Han Yufei kindly wrapped his scarf around her.

From a distance, Gong Ming observed this scene, his gaze lingering as he wondered if he had "seen wrong." Xiangxiang saw him and gave chase, but he vanished. Back in Western Han, the Wang family grew anxious because Emperor Cheng had still not addressed Empress Xu's rumored pregnancy. They felt they had lost the Queen Mother's trust, and she now demanded solid evidence of Empress Xu's alleged affair with Gong Ming.

Gong Ming and his mentor agreed to conceal the truth of the pregnancy. His mentor then went to see the Queen Mother, asserting that Empress Xu was not pregnant and that a thorough investigation would only legitimize the scandalous rumors, bringing further dishonor to the Han imperial family. However, the Queen Mother, finding his words evasive, suspected that Empress Xu was indeed pregnant and decided to inform Emperor Cheng.

Wang Mang, on the other hand, grew wary of how smoothly things were progressing, suspecting that Gong Ming’s mentor had a backup plan. His clan members, blinded by their eagerness to claim credit, dismissed his warnings, accusing him of envy and short-sightedness. The Queen Mother summoned Empress Xu and directly questioned her about the rumors. Empress Xu vehemently denied any affair with Gong Ming, reaffirming his loyalty and his death in service.

She also denied being pregnant and confidently agreed to a pulse diagnosis by the imperial doctor. To the astonishment of the Wang family, the imperial doctor confirmed that Empress Xu was not pregnant. This was due to Gong Ming's successful acquisition of a modern medicine that could suppress the pulse, making pregnancy undetectable. Gong Ming and Ying Yue discussed this success, and Gong Ming explained that convincing Empress Xu had required presenting Gong Ming's "suicide note."

Gong Ming revealed that his strategy of feigned evasiveness before the Queen Mother had made her eager to win, leading the Wang family to fall into their own trap and "dig their own grave." He noted that this was merely the first step, and the "chess game" still included Wang Mang. Enraged by the humiliation, the Queen Mother demanded that the Wang family designate someone to apologize to Emperor Cheng.

Gong Ming's mentor, Zhang Heng, then met Chun Yuchang, offering him a plan and informing him of Wang Mang’s ambitions to usurp the throne. He explained that both Chun Yuchang and Wang Mang were contenders for leadership within the Wang family, and Chun Yuchang viewed Wang Mang as a significant threat, thus he would seize the opportunity to eliminate Wang Mang.

Before the assembled Wang lords, Chun Yuchang harshly accused Wang Mang of wolfish ambition to change the dynasty, holding him responsible for the family's current predicament. Wang Mang tried to argue that Gong Ming's supposed witchcraft had manipulated the pulse, but Chun Yuchang dismissed him as desperate and reckless. Chun Yuchang then escalated his attack, threatening Wang Mang’s elderly mother and warning that his ambitions could lead to the extermination of their entire clan.

Faced with this threat, Wang Mang reluctantly agreed to apologize to the Emperor, taking the blame for the false rumors to demonstrate the Wang family’s loyalty. He requested a minor position as Cavalry Commandant, stating his intention to care for his mother and permanently leave the clan, thus ruining his political career.

Wang Mang then lashed out at the Wang family, accusing them of hypocrisy, self-interest, abusing their servants, imposing exorbitant taxes, scrambling for power, and disregarding state affairs, declaring them deserving of punishment by all. Gong Ming acknowledged the cruelty of the method but believed it was necessary to distance Wang Mang from the political "place of turmoil" and allow him to live a peaceful life, hoping he no longer had the "power to reverse the tide."

Gong Ming planned to see Wang Mang one last time. Wang Mang informed his retainers that he was not simply resigning but being "expelled from the family," severing all ties. He declared his intention to serve as Cavalry Commandant and attend to his mother, advising his followers to "look after yourselves." He recognized Zi Xiu’s continued loyalty to the Wang family and deduced that Zi Xiu was now monitoring him on Chun Yuchang’s orders.

Shortly after, Wang Mang received an anonymous letter, presumably from Gong Ming, suggesting he was still alive. This enraged Wang Mang, who felt manipulated by a "dead man." Gong Ming waited to meet Wang Mang, but he never appeared. Suddenly, Zi Xiu attacked Gong Ming, saying he came to find Gong Ming after seeing the letter. Zi Xiu's attack caused both of them to time travel to the modern era, where they encountered Lin Xiangxiang.

Xiangxiang bravely shielded Gong Ming and was severely wounded by Zi Xiu. Gong Ming swiftly sent Zi Xiu back to Western Han before taking Xiangxiang to the hospital. In Western Han, startled market-goers spoke of seeing the "dead" official, Gong Ming, alive. Furious, Gong Ming confronted Wang Mang with his sword, accusing him of sending Zi Xiu to attack him and endanger Xiangxiang. Ying Yue intervened, pleading with Gong Ming not to harm his former friend.

Gong Ming warned Wang Mang that any further harm to Xiangxiang would result in his merciless retaliation. Witnessing the confrontation, Wang Mang’s mother fainted, leaving Wang Mang distraught. Gong Ming then resolved to leave Western Han permanently and remain in the modern world.

Before his final departure from Western Han, Gong Ming was informed that Wang Mang was not responsible for Zi Xiu's attack; Zi Xiu had acted independently out of loyalty to the Wang family, a fact Wang Mang himself had confirmed. His mentor, bidding him a sorrowful farewell, reminded Gong Ming of his earlier talk of future humans traveling to the stars and urged him to pursue this, fulfilling his mentor's lifelong dream.

Ying Yue also wished Gong Ming a peaceful life with his beloved, advising him to abandon his sword and avoid further power struggles, to "live as his heart desires" and "for what his heart wishes," and to find someone to grow old with, so that his life would not be in vain. Lin Xiangxiang regained consciousness in the hospital, immediately asking for Gong Ming. Her friend informed her that he had left in a hurry.

Disappointed, Xiangxiang felt that Gong Ming had abandoned her once again for the affairs of the Han Dynasty. Back in Western Han, Wang Mang learned from his servants that his mother had fainted from seeing the fierce confrontation between him and Gong Ming, and that she had recognized Gong Ming. He realized that Gong Ming had misunderstood his involvement in the attack.

Wang Mang was told that Zi Xiu had acted independently, driven by loyalty to the Wang family, and that Wang Mang, being expelled, was no longer in a position to harm Gong Ming. He reflected that his own situation was now similar to Gong Ming's—free from royal strife—and that he finally "no longer needed to be an enemy."

He pondered whether Gong Ming's rage stemmed from Xiangxiang's near-death experience, contemplating if he, now "useless," might have been better off dying by Gong Ming’s sword. His servant reminded him of his duty to care for his mother, and Wang Mang reaffirmed his decision to abandon officialdom and dedicate the rest of his life to her. In the modern era, Gong Ming arrived but could not find Lin Xiangxiang. He repeatedly called her.

She eventually answered, telling him over the phone that their relationship was over and there was no need for them to meet. Gong Ming, wanting to apologize for her injury, was cut off by Xiangxiang, who said it was unnecessary. She questioned where he had gone after leaving the hospital, feeling he had abandoned her. Gong Ming admitted he had returned to the Han Dynasty. Xiangxiang then asserted that it no longer mattered whether he went back to the past or stayed in the present, and asked him not to contact her again.

Lin Xiangxiang confided in Jin Jing that she had told Gong Ming not to approach her again. She expressed frustration that he had left her alone after she was injured, finding his actions heartless and unreasonable. Jin Jing acknowledged his behavior was out of line but stressed that their main unresolved issue was whether Gong Ming would return to his own time, which continued to create a rift between them.

Xiangxiang scoffed at Jin Jing, a "love expert" who lacked a partner, to which Jin Jing retorted, "Stop being so talkative." Xiangxiang worried about her head injury affecting her upcoming drama filming and first high-end commercial. Jin Jing assured her that special makeup like concealer could hide the injury for the commercial. Later, Jin Jing accompanied Xiangxiang to apologize to the director, who criticized Xiangxiang for riding a motorcycle after a previous accident.

Jin Jing took responsibility as Xiangxiang's agent, while Xiangxiang also blamed herself. The director, exasperated by the delays, decided to film urgent scenes first and adjust Han Yufei's schedule to accommodate Xiangxiang’s recovery. Han Yufei’s manager, Tianxiu, confirmed that Yufei could adjust his schedule as he was filming reality shows and wanted to rest. The director then warned Jin Jing that artists could be "shameless," but not "shameless," emphasizing the importance of appearances.

Tianxiu then joked with Jin Jing and Xia Xiaonan, saying they behaved like a bickering romantic drama couple and should get together. Jin Jing threatened to make Xia Xiaonan's "bald head into a globe" if he spoke another word. Han Yufei arrived, expressing concern for Xiangxiang's injury. Xia Xiaonan explained that Xiangxiang had fallen, sustaining a minor injury while with Gong Ming, but that Gong Ming had left her at the hospital without a word.

Han Yufei was surprised Gong Ming had reappeared, questioning why he would leave someone injured. Xia Xiaonan quipped that Jin Jing wouldn't get injured if she fell, further annoying Jin Jing. Gong Ming, unable to reach Xiangxiang or find her at home, called Xia Xiaonan for her whereabouts. Xia Xiaonan informed him she was filming at the studio. Gong Ming stated his intention to apologize in person, which Xia Xiaonan found problematic due to Jin Jing's presence.

Later, Jin Jing overheard Xia Xiaonan excitedly mentioning he had just bought swimming trunks in winter and teased him about his eccentric purchase. Han Yufei confronted Gong Ming at the studio, demanding to know why he was still pursuing Xiangxiang after their breakup. Gong Ming stated it was because he wanted to see her and that their relationship was personal.

Han Yufei countered that Xiangxiang was "very tired, very exhausted" because of Gong Ming and had told him she didn't want to see Gong Ming again. Gong Ming admitted that Xiangxiang's injury was indeed his fault due to "something that happened." Han Yufei called Gong Ming a "jinx" and ordered him to stay away, asserting that Gong Ming was not worthy of Xiangxiang.

Xiangxiang, witnessing the exchange, tried to intervene, but Han Yufei reminded her that Gong Ming had abandoned her while she was injured. Later, a dejected Gong Ming sat by a river, where he encountered a man who bore an uncanny resemblance to his mentor. Feeling a strange connection, Gong Ming confided his romantic troubles.

The man, whose surname was Zhang (Gong Ming's mentor's surname), joked about his wife demanding he quit smoking, lamenting that "money can't buy my willingness" and advising Gong Ming not to be overly concerned about relationships as there are "so many women in this world."

He shared his own experience, how he once believed in "love at first sight" and saw his wife as "a fairy descending to earth," but that the realities of daily life had changed everything, turning "pearls into dead fish eyes." He emphasized that men should not "spoil" women and should "never bow your head" or "give in easily," quoting, "Only villains and women are difficult to raise."

Gong Ming, understanding the "truth said in reverse" from his mentor’s modern-day descendant, felt enlightened and resolved to pursue Xiangxiang again. Despite the man's confusion about Gong Ming's references to the Han Dynasty and the future, Gong Ming thanked him and departed. Xia Xiaonan, seeing Gong Ming's renewed determination, sent him the address for Xiangxiang's commercial shoot, calling herself a "great helper." Meanwhile, Ying Yue spoke with her mentor.

Her mentor, observing her lack of cheer, noted he hadn't seen her smile in a long time. Ying Yue, entrusting Gong Ming's belongings to her mentor, declared her decision to "travel freely" to see the "myriad phenomena in the world," as Gong Ming had advised her that the world was "far bigger and broader" than she had experienced, and that she should "be safe in the future."

Her mentor, seeing her resolve, gave his blessing, lamenting that with Gong Ming gone and Ying Yue now leaving, only Wang Mang remained among the three who grew up together. Wang Mang diligently attended to his ailing mother. Zi Xiu was discovered searching for the letter slips Gong Ming had given Wang Mang. Wang Mang confronted him, accusing him of behaving like a "thief" and questioning his "intention."

Zi Xiu admitted he had seen Gong Ming alive and sought the letter slips as evidence for the clan elders. Wang Mang dismissed his claims, asserting Gong Ming was dead and accusing Zi Xiu of a momentary delusion. Zi Xiu, however, insisted he had found Gong Ming at a location described in the letters, suggesting Wang Mang had hidden him. He further accused Wang Mang of protecting Gong Ming out of "intimate friendship," thereby bringing "harm to the family."

Wang Mang, heartbroken, declared that any "intimate friendship" with Gong Ming "has long since disappeared," stating, "My best friend, he will never come here to look for me again." He then threatened to "kill you with my own hands" if Zi Xiu ever showed up at his residence again. At Lin Xiangxiang's commercial shoot, Gong Ming suddenly appeared and declared his intentions to everyone present.

He announced to Xiangxiang that he had "come back and decided to stay," admitting his past mistakes and expressing gratitude. He vowed to "reconcile with you," proclaiming, "If living, I shall return; if dead, I shall long for you forever." He emphasized that "without you, I cannot live alone," moving Xiangxiang to tears as the crew murmured about how handsome he was. Gong Ming then stepped aside, promising to wait for her outside.

Wang Mang's mother awoke briefly, asking her son why he was sleeping by her side. Wang Mang reassured her and asked about her well-being. His mother spoke of a long dream where she lost him, and he sought revenge on the Wang family to change the world of the Han Dynasty. Wang Mang confirmed having the same dream.

His mother advised him not to harbor anger towards the Wang family, reminding him they were his blood relatives, and stated that her only wish was for him to "be safe and happy." Shortly after, as Wang Mang went to fetch water, his mother peacefully passed away. Wang Mang, returning to find her unresponsive, cried out for her. The Wang family, upon hearing the news, urgently sought out Ying Yue.

Ying Yue, just preparing for her journey, rushed to Wang Mang's residence and found him kneeling by his mother's deathbed. Xia Xiaonan encouraged Xiangxiang to embrace love. Outside, Xiangxiang, still holding onto resentment, told Gong Ming not to assume her forgiveness, reminding him of when he "left me alone in the hospital and actually left by yourself."

Gong Ming apologized, explaining that he had been "too angry" upon seeing her injured and had impulsively left to seek revenge on "the culprit" (Wang Mang), a decision he had made "without thinking about it." He added that he had eventually given up on revenge. Xiangxiang then asked if his declaration—that he "cannot live alone without me"—was truly sincere. Gong Ming confirmed, "Yes." Overwhelmed, Xiangxiang confessed, "I miss you so much." Gong Ming responded, "Me too, miss you like crazy," and they embraced.

The morning after their reconciliation, Gong Ming and Lin Xiangxiang woke up to a new beginning. Lin Xiangxiang was overjoyed, embracing him from behind and declaring their new residence as their home. Gong Ming found the place a bit spacious for one, but Lin Xiangxiang promised to visit often, treating it as her own home and appreciating its proximity to her own residence. Gong Ming also carefully put away his jade pendant.

Eager to adapt to modern life, Gong Ming had acquired many books, committing himself to learning simplified Chinese and other languages, expressing his joy in learning but also his desire not to constantly trouble Lin Xiangxiang. She playfully insisted she wished he would, teasing him about being responsible for bringing her into his modern world. Later, Lin Xiangxiang showed Gong Ming how to navigate modern life, including a playful water fight during their morning routine.

As Lin Xiangxiang left for filming, Gong Ming promised to wait for her, and they agreed to a proper date with dinner and a movie once their schedules allowed. Gong Ming revealed he had been researching modern dating trends in magazines. He also purchased a modern watch, a gift Lin Xiangxiang noted was quite expensive.

He calmly explained that selling his family heirlooms would provide them with a worry-free life for a century, prompting Lin Xiangxiang to jokingly call him a "nouveau riche showing off wealth." Gong Ming also emphasized his unwavering commitment to her by refusing to remove the red thread she had given him, as it carried her heart. They then embarked on a sweet date, enjoying the market and each other’s company.

Lin Xiangxiang happily declared they were like a family, with Gong Ming as her brother and she as his sister. Later, after they parted for the night, Lin Xiangxiang sent him a text message, confessing she missed him already. He called her back, reassuring her of his mutual feelings.

When she pressed him on his return, he explained that, in his era, it was improper for unmarried couples to spend the night together, causing her to tease him for becoming boring. She then gave him a "Xiangxiang-style spa" using a "water baby" product. Meanwhile, Gong Ming’s mentor visited Wang Mang, instructing Ying Yue not to reveal his presence, as he believed Wang Mang still resented him for causing a rift with the Wang family.

Ying Yue explained she remained by Wang Mang's side out of respect for his late mother. The mentor encouraged her to let go of any lingering resentment, reminding her of their past friendship. He expressed concern for Wang Mang, who was abandoned by his family and grieving his mother's death, and urged Ying Yue to continue caring for him. Ying Yue found Wang Mang in despair, refusing to eat.

She tried to persuade him to nourish himself and allow his mother to pass peacefully, but he was inconsolable. Wang Mang lamented that his mother had spoken similar words to him when his father died. He blamed himself for his mother's demise, believing he only brought harm to those who loved him, even Gong Ming had drawn a sword against him. Seeing Wang Mang in pain, Ying Yue softened and embraced him. Ying Yue helped arrange the funeral.

Later, as Ying Yue and Wang Mang walked by a bridge, he recalled a traumatic childhood memory of seeing a young servant whipped to death for no reason other than his master's ill mood, and a slave woman crying over the boy’s body, presumably his mother. He still wished to reorganize the Han Dynasty to elevate the status of servants, questioning his own guilt despite the suffering his ambition brought.

Wang Mang suddenly suffered a headache, and Ying Yue looked at him worriedly. He then remembered another childhood incident at that very bridge, when he and Gong Ming playfully pushed Ying Yue into the water, and she, in turn, pushed them in. He confessed he couldn't swim at the time and truly thought he would die. Wang Mang noted how much they had changed, yet he still couldn’t swim.

He cherished seeing her smile like that beside him again, a smile he hadn't seen in a long time, and confessed to not having slept well the previous night. Back in the modern world, Lin Xiangxiang talked with Gong Ming about his previous attempt to seek revenge after her injury. He confirmed he was angry and intended to confront Wang Mang for hurting her but couldn’t bring himself to do it due to their deep brotherhood.

He now realized it was all a misunderstanding but regretted their last memory was him drawing a sword against Wang Mang. Lin Xiangxiang invited Gong Ming to visit her film set, promising he'd be impressed with her portrayal of Empress Xu. Gong Ming, however, worried it might remind him of the real Empress Xu, prompting Lin Xiangxiang to playfully accuse him of being the one obsessed with saving her.

At the set, Lin Xiangxiang’s manager, Jin Jing, and Xiaonan complained good-naturedly about Gong Ming’s public declaration of love during a commercial shoot, causing a "crisis" with the boss. Gong Ming apologized, admitting his lack of understanding of modern customs, and invited them to dinner, expressing his desire to befriend them as they were important to Lin Xiangxiang and, by extension, to him. Xiaonan initially refused, but Jin Jing quickly accepted on their behalf.

Lin Xiangxiang then performed a scene with Zhao Nana, where their characters, a concubine and an empress, lament how palace life prevented them from being friends. Zhao Nana praised Lin Xiangxiang, acknowledging her progress as an actress. Gong Ming also complimented Lin Xiangxiang, saying she was like the real Empress Xu, which she teased him for. Xiaonan and Jin Jing later feigned sadness over a heartbroken actor's breakup, secretly delighted.

Inspired by an elderly couple he saw, Gong Ming decided to propose to Lin Xiangxiang, wanting to spend decades with her as husband and wife. He bought a diamond ring and, finding her asleep, gently placed it on her finger. When she woke, he asked her to marry him, explaining his heartfelt desire to never lose her after their extraordinary reunion across two millennia. Lin Xiangxiang, deeply touched, accepted his proposal.

She asked how he knew to use a diamond ring, and he credited Xiaonan. Xiaonan, upon hearing the news, pretended to be heartbroken about Lin Xiangxiang getting married but ultimately wished them happiness. Lin Xiangxiang assured Gong Ming she preferred a simple proposal. Later, Xiaonan arrived with flowers, having planned an elaborate proposal scene for Gong Ming, only to discover he had already popped the question, much to his comical dismay.

Gong Ming then informed Lin Xiangxiang of his intention to formally ask her father for her hand in marriage. As she pondered what to wear, she playfully taught him how to tie a modern tie, explaining its resemblance to ancient official attire and how wives used to tie them for their husbands. He was fascinated and asked her to tie it for him again.

Meanwhile, Wang Mang reconciled with his mentor, stating he no longer harbored resentment, recognizing that their conflict stemmed from differing ideals. The mentor confirmed Gong Ming had left permanently, regretting their resentful parting and emphasizing Gong Ming’s deep regard for Wang Mang as a true confidant. Wang Mang declared his intention to abandon all court and palace affairs, forget the past, and live by his heart, prioritizing "one person" above all else. The mentor inferred this person was Ying Yue.

Wang Mang confirmed his wish to elope with Ying Yue, if she would have him, to escape worldly troubles. The mentor urged him to act quickly. Wang Mang then approached Ying Yue, who was preparing to leave. He confessed his long-held love for her, a desire he had suppressed knowing her heart belonged to another, and pleaded with her to join him in a life far from the capital. However, Ying Yue regretfully refused him.

Unknown to them, Zi Xiu was secretly observing their interaction. The Wang family elders, with Zi Xiu reporting on Wang Mang and Ying Yue's proximity but Gong Ming's continued absence, decided to capture Ying Yue to extract Gong Ming’s whereabouts. Zi Xiu expressed concern about Wang Mang interfering, especially since Ying Yue had handled his mother's funeral.

The elders callously declared that if Wang Mang dared to interfere, he should be killed to prevent him from retaliating against the Wang family in the future. In the modern world, Gong Ming overheard an actor, who identified himself as playing Wang Mang, say it was his last day of filming because his character died, assassinated by the Wang family as per the script.

This chilling revelation shocked Gong Ming, who realized that his actions had altered history, leading to Wang Mang's death. Unable to accept this fate for his former friend, Gong Ming made the difficult decision to return to Western Han. He sent Lin Xiangxiang a text message, apologizing for an emergency and informing her he would be two hours late for their meeting at the train station, leaving her anxiously waiting and unable to reach him by phone. Gong Ming reappeared at the bridge in Western Han, surprising Wang Mang.

After learning in the modern era about Wang Mang's tragic fate, Gong Ming, deeply unsettled, traveled back to the Western Han Dynasty to warn his friend. He appeared before Wang Mang, who was overjoyed to reunite with his confidant. Gong Ming explained that he had to come back because he feared for Wang Mang's life.

He described the mysterious jade pendant, explaining that it transports him to a distant future where historical records detail everything, including Wang Mang's impending violent death. Gong Ming expressed profound remorse, believing his misuse of the jade pendant had caused a ripple effect, leading to Wang Mang's banishment by the Wang family and his eventual demise.

Despite Wang Mang's calm acceptance, suggesting his death might benefit Gong Ming, Gong Ming firmly rejected the idea, stating he never wished him harm and only wanted him to abandon his ambitions. He urged Wang Mang to trust his words this time. Meanwhile, Gong Ming had sent a message to Ying Yue, instructing her to meet them at the bamboo forest near Wang Mang's residence, as their lives were in peril. Ying Yue received the letter and immediately set out.

However, Zi Xiu's men ambushed her on the way. Outnumbered and outmatched, Ying Yue was severely injured and captured. When Gong Ming and Wang Mang arrived at the scene, they found Zi Xiu holding a wounded Ying Yue hostage. Zi Xiu, who was aware that Gong Ming was still alive after his previous failed assassination attempt and had discovered Gong Ming's letter to Wang Mang, mocked Wang Mang's friendship with Gong Ming. Wang Mang, furious, demanded Ying Yue's release.

Zi Xiu, however, offered a grim choice: Wang Mang must personally kill Gong Ming in exchange for Ying Yue's freedom. He further ordered Gong Ming to discard the jade pendant, claiming its mystical power would not save him this time. Torn between his dear friend and the woman he loved, Wang Mang hesitated. Seeing Wang Mang's agonizing indecision, Gong Ming made the choice himself, closing his eyes and preparing for death.

In a desperate act, Ying Yue broke free from Zi Xiu's grasp and lunged to shield Gong Ming. Zi Xiu, with a swift stroke, ran his sword through Ying Yue. Enraged by her sacrifice, Wang Mang immediately killed Zi Xiu. Ying Yue collapsed into Gong Ming's arms, barely conscious. With her last breaths, she whispered that she was happy to have seen Wang Mang again and had no regrets.

She then repeatedly apologized to Wang Mang before closing her eyes forever. Grief-stricken, Wang Mang cradled Ying Yue's lifeless body, accusing Gong Ming of causing her death and declaring that his own heart had died with her. He swore he would never see Gong Ming again in this life and carried Ying Yue's body away. News of Ying Yue's death devastated Gong Ming's Mentor, who collapsed in sorrow.

Gong Ming, his heart heavy, asked his Mentor to help Wang Mang bury Ying Yue, as he felt unable to face it himself. The jade pendant, whose efficacy was believed to be tied to Ying Yue, turned jet black—a never-before-seen ominous change. Despite the danger, Gong Ming felt compelled to return to the modern era to inform Lin Xiangxiang, who was still waiting for him.

He contacted her by phone, and she, relieved to hear from him after waiting at the train station, agreed to meet him at their usual bridge. As they stood on the bridge, just moments after seeing her, Gong Ming suddenly vanished before Lin Xiangxiang's eyes, leaving only his ringing phone behind.

Lin Xiangxiang, weeping, picked up his discarded phone, while Gong Ming found himself stranded back in the Western Han Dynasty, sitting on the ground in despair, realizing he might never return to her. Back in the modern world, Lin Xiangxiang, unable to reach Gong Ming, continued to visit the bridge daily, waiting in vain for his return. Her friends, seeing her distress, reminded her that Gong Ming had already proposed marriage, criticizing his sudden disappearance and the uncertainty it caused.

Lin Xiangxiang, however, steadfastly believed he would return. She expressed her frustration at being unable to help him, relying solely on a history book, and hated her own helplessness. Meanwhile, Gong Ming decided to travel to Jingzhou to return Ying Yue's belongings to her relatives. His Mentor urged him to use this journey to uncover the true origin of the jade pendant.

The Mentor theorized that the jade pendant's ability to protect Gong Ming and "encounter death and then live" was fueled by Ying Yue's selfless will and constant worry for him. With Ying Yue gone, the jade pendant had lost its efficacy.

However, Ying Yue's distant relatives in Jingzhou knew nothing about the jade pendant's specific origins, only that an ancestor had received it as a gift from a "true person" named Nan Hua, whom Gong Ming referred to as a Taoist immortal. The Mentor advised Gong Ming to try and forget the distant future and live out his life in the present, emphasizing that Ying Yue had died and Lin Xiangxiang was not yet born in this era.

However, Gong Ming, tormented by the thought of Lin Xiangxiang waiting anxiously for him, decided he would risk his life to attempt to return to the modern era, even if for a mere moment. The Mentor vehemently opposed this, reminding Gong Ming of Ying Yue's sacrifice and urging him to consider her memory. He advised Gong Ming that finding the jade pendant's true origin and restoring its function was the wiser course of action.

Gong Ming, though agreeing to his Mentor's words to live in seclusion, later wounded himself, attempting once more to activate the jade pendant and cross time. He planned to reside in his old, now abandoned, house in the capital, feeling like a lonely soul.

Gong Ming, having risked his life by stabbing himself in an attempt to return to the modern era, awoke from what he realized was merely a dream. His mentor, who had found him unconscious for days and bleeding severely, informed him that the jade pendant was now useless. The mentor warned Gong Ming against harboring any more "delusional thoughts" of returning to the future.

However, Gong Ming decided he could not bear for Lin Xiangxiang to wait for him in vain. He planned to smash the jade pendant, believing it would erase everyone's memories of him in the modern world. Fearing he might forget everything himself, he resolved to write down his feelings on letter slips. He expressed his undying love for "Qing Qing," acknowledging their separation by "thousands of years and thousands of miles," like "dreams and dew."

He conveyed his profound sorrow and an unfulfilled promise of spending their lives together. He hoped that if she were to read his words in the future, she would forget him and live a happy, worry-free life. He vowed to miss her until death, whether there was an afterlife or not. After reluctantly receiving his mentor's promise to help him remember if he forgot, Gong Ming hardened his heart and destroyed the jade pendant.

With its destruction, all traces of his existence and events in the modern world vanished from memory. Three years later, Lin Xiangxiang's career had soared. She had become famous for her role as Empress Xu in her debut film, "New Zhao Feiyan," which earned her a Best Actress nomination and established her as a top-tier actress praised for her natural acting.

Despite her success, her agent, Jin Jing, often urged her to adopt a more "elegant and proud" celebrity persona, though Xiangxiang preferred to remain herself, known for being easygoing. During this time, her friend and former manager, Wu Tianxiu, had left his career as Han Yufei's manager to get married and become a stay-at-home father. Jin Jing, who had once been infatuated with Tianxiu, planned to confess her feelings to him at Xiangxiang's wrap party.

However, before she could, Tianxiu announced that he had found someone he liked and reconciled with his ex-girlfriend, Yang Qin. To save Jin Jing from embarrassment amidst the crowd, Xiaonan, a crew member, stepped in to pretend to be her love interest. Director Yang, witnessing the scene, playfully celebrated their "relationship," which Jin Jing and Xiaonan reluctantly played along with.

Later, Han Yufei, still active in the industry, introduced his new, young executive manager to Jin Jing, who quickly moved on from Tianxiu and expressed keen interest in the newcomer, as she had decided to "seize" this handsome guy. Han Yufei himself flirted with Xiangxiang, asking if she was jealous of his recent "scandal" with a female model and playfully offering to be her boyfriend, but Xiangxiang dismissed his advances.

Jin Jing expressed concern that Xiangxiang, despite her success, had not pursued any romantic relationships since Gong Ming's disappearance and was perhaps wasting her youth. Lin Xiangxiang was later approached by Director Yang to be a guest narrator for a documentary titled "The Secret History of Empress Xu." Xiangxiang, excited by the "high-end" project, readily accepted. The documentary focused on a remarkable archaeological discovery: ancient bamboo slips from the late Western Han Dynasty, preserved with unusual Chinese herbal medicine techniques.

These slips contained a love letter addressed to "Xiangzi" from an unknown individual named Gong Ming, who was unrecorded in historical texts. Scholars speculated that this Gong Ming was a confidant of Empress Xu who had aided her restoration plans and was believed to have died by an arrow due to a conspiracy. The documentary aimed to explore Gong Ming's rumored love for Empress Xu, offering a new, albeit academically unconfirmed, perspective on history.

Meanwhile, years had passed in the Western Han Dynasty. Gong Ming lived a secluded life, looking haggard and weathered. He meticulously preserved the very letter slips he had written to Lin Xiangxiang, clinging to his memories of their love. During this period, Emperor Cheng neglected affairs of state, and the Wang family's power grew unchecked. However, Wang Mang was widely respected by the populace for his integrity. Gong Ming returned home one day to find Wang Mang waiting for him.

They played a game of chess, resolving old grievances. Wang Mang, having regained the Wang family's trust by exposing Empress Xu's sister, Xu Mi's, bribery, informed Gong Ming that Emperor Cheng had decided to sentence Empress Xu to death. Gong Ming lamented his ultimate inability to change history. Wang Mang, now ambitious and trusted by the Emperor, declared his intention to single-handedly reverse the Han Dynasty's decline.

Gong Ming urged Wang Mang to abandon his "futile ambitions," even appealing to their shared past and the memory of Ying Yue. However, Wang Mang coldly stated their paths diverged and vowed to forget both Gong Ming and Ying Yue, saying, "my confidant Gong Ming already went with Ying Yue when she died." With that, Wang Mang departed, leaving Gong Ming to advise him to "look after himself."

Back in the modern era, as Lin Xiangxiang narrated the documentary, she felt an inexplicable wave of sadness when reading Gong Ming's love letter, her heart filled with confusion. During a dubbing session, she was overwhelmed by the thought of Gong Ming's unrequited love for Empress Xu, wondering if Empress Xu had ever known his feelings. Her manager suggested she was getting too immersed in her role.

Xiangxiang had recently moved into a new house near the bridge where she and Gong Ming had once met, feeling an unexplained fondness for the location. Later, while on set for the documentary, which was filming near what was believed to be Gong Ming's ancient dwelling, Xiangxiang wandered off to a nearby bridge. There, she heard the melody of a song that resonated with her memories of Gong Ming.

At that very moment, separated by a thousand years, Gong Ming stood on a bridge in his own time, gazing into the empty air, yet he seemed to perceive Lin Xiangxiang. Overcome with grief and a sense of enduring connection, Gong Ming stood rooted to the spot, weeping silently.

Gong Ming visited his mentor, expressing regret for his recent absence. His mentor, in turn, told him about Empress Xu's dire situation. Gong Ming sighed, lamenting that Ying Yue had died unjustly and Empress Xu was about to be executed, consequences he attributed to his forced alteration of history.

He regretted returning to save Wang Mang that day, believing that if he hadn't, Ying Yue would still be alive, he could have remained by Lin Xiangxiang's side, and Wang Mang would not have jeopardized the Han Imperial Family for ""his"" ambition, instead meeting an ignoble death.

Confused about the true "right path," Gong Ming asked his mentor when Empress Xu would be given the poisonous wine, fearing an imperial edict was imminent, and worried about the Imperial Prince she carried. His mentor then recalled a visit to Empress Xu three years prior. At that time, Empress Xu had accepted Zhao Feiyan's coronation, stating she had no regrets even if she couldn't be restored.

She expressed profound gratitude to Gong Ming for repeatedly saving her life, acknowledging she should have sacrificed herself in thanks. However, she admitted her concern for the Imperial Prince in her womb, feeling it was her duty to leave a bloodline for the Han Imperial Family, even if the Emperor showed no mercy. She promised her mentor that everything would prioritize the child.

His mentor reassured Gong Ming that Empress Xu had secretly given birth to an Imperial Prince three years ago, undetected by palace attendants. The child had been sent to be raised by a distant relative of the Liu family, whose fortunes had declined, and his true identity was never revealed. Gong Ming then secretly went to see the child. Upon meeting the boy, who resembled his mother, Gong Ming introduced himself and asked for the child's name.

The boy identified himself as Liu Xiu, son of Liu Ji, the Magistrate of Jiyang. Hearing the name Liu Xiu, the future restorer of the Han Dynasty, Gong Ming was visibly relieved and smiled. With his mission in Dahan fulfilled, Gong Ming resolved to end his life to escape his suffering. He handed over a set of letter slips to his mentor, explaining he had written them for Xiangxiang, even uncertain if future generations would ever read them.

His mentor was heartbroken by Gong Ming's resolve, lamenting his unwavering stubbornness, and asked him to send greetings to Ying Yue if he met her. Gong Ming comforted his mentor, revealing that he had met his mentor's descendant in the future, who had also helped him, just as his mentor had. He then vowed never to forget the teachings he received, both in Dahan and in the future, and bid his mentor farewell.

Meanwhile, Emperor Cheng issued an imperial edict, condemning Xu for her lack of virtue, unrepentance, and betrayal, and sentenced her to death by poisonous wine, citing her past service as the reason for this "merciful" method. Empress Xu, envisioning Liu Xiu's future, drank the poison willingly. Gong Ming bowed profoundly towards the East Palace. The Wang family celebrated Empress Xu's demise, seeing it as the elimination of a serious threat.

However, Wang Mang, though present, showed no joy and asked to be left alone to ponder. In the modern era, Lin Xiangxiang attended an award ceremony, with critics widely predicting her win for Best Actress. However, she felt strangely unfocused and low-spirited, attributing it to the documentary she had recently narrated. Her manager worried about her dazed state since taking on the project. Xiangxiang admitted she couldn't explain it, but constantly felt sad and heartbroken.

Someone noticed that the documentary about Empress Xu was premiering that day. As Xiangxiang watched, she recognized a phrase she had once seen: "heart of love, heart of the heart." She then heard Gong Ming's voice from the documentary, reciting a love letter he had written. In the letter, he expressed his desire to grow old with her, to be always by her side, never separated.

He wrote of the unlikelihood of their reunion after being separated by two millennia, and how meeting her again meant he never wanted to lose her. He confessed that his heart had never been so urgent for her, and he was completely obsessed. Xiangxiang quietly thanked Gong Ming, her emotions stirred. At the same time, Gong Ming stood on a bridge, murmuring, "I'm sorry. . . I broke my promise."

He untied the red rope from his wrist and dropped it into the water, watching it float away. The documentary continued to play Gong Ming's final letter. His voice spoke of writing a last testament for his dear one, hoping it would comfort her. He reflected on their separation across worlds, unable to send messages like wild geese, and wondered how much memory would remain when they grew old, or where his letters would be.

He spoke of the unbearable pain of lovesickness, questioned if their meeting was not divine will, then what was. He solemnly stated that their promise in life or death, even if made in vain, could not be forgotten. He recalled their ephemeral past, like a dream, like dew, and his sacrifice for righteousness, remaining firm despite countless setbacks.

Yet, he lamented, he was alive but could not see his dear one, a longing difficult to find in waking or in dreams, concluding that his life was over. Xiangxiang's manager urged her to the stage, noticing she was crying. Xiangxiang simply said she felt sad. On the red carpet, as the interview began, Xiangxiang looked up and saw Gong Ming in the crowd. Overcome with memories, she bolted from the interviewers, leaving the ceremony behind.

She raced to the bridge where they had made their promise. On the bridge, Gong Ming continued his inner monologue, expressing how lucky he was to know her, wishing to grow old together, but lamenting the long, arduous path and their separation by thousands of years and miles. He yearned to see her, stating that without her, life was meaningless.

He apologized for being late, while Xiangxiang's voice echoed with her own longing, questioning when he would truly stay or walk to her. Gong Ming then jumped into the water. Xiangxiang cried out his name and, without hesitation, plunged in after him. They reunited in the water, embracing and kissing as memories flooded back. Xiangxiang asked him how he returned without the jade pendant.

Gong Ming confessed he didn't know, but noted she had seen the red rope floating on the water. He believed her profound affection for him had once again altered time and space, causing Heaven to respond with a miracle. Xiangxiang playfully challenged him to obey Heaven's will and be unconditionally good to her. Gong Ming readily accepted, promising never to fail her in this life.

He then mused about Xiangxiang's dream of becoming Best Actress finally coming true, but worried she might blame him for missing the award because of their reunion. Xiangxiang, however, assured him that she could win it again and, as compensation, demanded his everlasting love. Gong Ming smiled, asking, "Haven't I loved you for two thousand years?"
